Chapter 7 The Relationship Between the Su Family and the Huo Family

Chapter 7 The Relationship Between the Su Family and the Huo Family
Before Huo Jingcheng could reply, he had already tacitly agreed, and exclaimed to himself, "As expected of my third brother, a man who does great things, truly amazing—"

The next word was not transmitted because Huo Jingcheng had already pressed the hang-up button.

A few seconds later, the screen went black again. Huo Jingcheng casually tossed it aside. The phone bounced twice on the leather seat due to the force and reaction force, and the car returned to silence.

As the light turned red, Lin Cheng slowly stepped on the brake, shifted gears, and glanced at the rearview mirror. He saw his boss leaning back in the leather seat, eyes closed as if dozing, his right hand rubbing his swollen temples.

He thought to himself: Of all things to bring up, why did Young Master Chen have to bring up that particular incident? He really knows how to rub salt in the wound.

Chen Zheyan wasn't annoyed when the call was hung up on; he just thought about when he would have time to visit the proprietress at the teahouse again.

Su Ruoyun, who was in the compound, had no idea that someone was eyeing her.

Old Mr. Su and his wife lived in a military compound, which was heavily guarded. Soldiers patrolled and stood guard 24 hours a day with wooden guns. More than ten soldiers stood upright on both sides, patrolling back and forth.

The Maybach drove smoothly to a stop in front of a courtyard. It wasn't the opulent grandeur one might expect; instead, it exuded a sense of solemnity and simplicity. Inside the courtyard, there was a grape trellis that the old man had built himself years before.

At the dinner table, Madam Su asked her usual question, "How's business at the teahouse?"

Su Ruoyun nodded, replying while picking up some food, "It's great to have my brother here."

With her granddaughter being so intelligent, she had nothing to worry about. The old lady's gaze shifted back to the troublesome person before her, her tone tinged with helplessness, "When are you going to meet the person your mother and I have chosen for you?"

The topic was about finding a match.

Upon hearing this, Su Ruoyun, holding the white porcelain bowl, grinned unkindly.

Su Mingyan stopped picking up food, first giving his younger sister, who was secretly laughing beside him, a subtle glare, and then looking to his grandfather for help.

But the old man wouldn't go against his wife's wishes, and just laughed it off.

Seeing that none of his "allies" were reliable, Su Mingyan sighed quietly, picked up some food for the old lady, and said in a heavy tone, "Grandma, eat first."

The old lady wouldn't allow him to interrupt. "As the saying goes, one should be established by thirty. In previous years, you were busy with work, so your mother and I didn't urge you on matters of romance. But now that you're thirty, your career is established, so it's time to consider other things."

Grandma Su didn't want to bring it up at the dinner table, but every time after the meal, her grandson would just slip away, saying he had to go home to handle the company's affairs or that he was tired from working all day and needed to go home to rest. As his grandmother, she couldn't stop him from working, nor could she delay his rest, so she never said a word.

Seeing the old lady's insistent expression, Su Mingyan relented and said, "Please compile the personnel list first, and I'll take a look when I have time."

Whether he's free or not, he'll just brush it off for now; Su Mingyan is well-versed in this.

Clearly, Madam Su knew her grandson very well.

"You don't need to look, I've already picked some out for you."

As she spoke, Madam Su waved her hand, signaling the middle-aged woman behind her to step forward, take the photo, and place it in front of her grandson. She pointed at the photo with her finger, saying, "This is the photo. There's some basic information on the back. Let's start by looking at this one. If you don't like it, we can change to someone else."

The photo looks like a travel photo. A woman with long, flowing hair and a beautiful face stands in front of an orange tree laden with fruit. A red-billed green parrot flies by and leaves its mark in the corner of the photo, contrasting with the bright but not gaudy colors of the surrounding buildings under the dazzling sunlight.

Red, orange, green, pink, and other rich and vibrant colors make you feel as if you are in an oil painting.

Su Mingyan glanced at it briefly before looking away and nodded in agreement.

Since he had already agreed, Su Mingyan didn't rush home after dinner. He sat in front of the chessboard and chatted with Old Master Su, while Su Ruoyun accompanied Old Madam Su for a walk.

"I heard you recently snatched a deal from someone else?" Old Su placed a piece on the board, his deep voice revealing no emotion.

While pondering where to go next, Su Mingyan replied, "In the business world, it's all about deception and cunning; everyone relies on their own abilities. Surely not..."

His long, slender fingers gently placed a white chess piece on the board, a mocking smile playing on his lips. "He went home and complained to me."

Going home to complain is something only a three-year-old would do. To indirectly accuse someone of being childish is like having a mouth full of poison.

Old Su said, "The two families have a good relationship, so we should at least consider each other's feelings."

Su Mingyan remained noncommittal, instead asking, "Really? I don't recall the Su family and the Huo family having a good relationship."

"..." Old Su.

At 9 p.m., the brother and sister left the compound.

Before getting on the bus, Madam Su repeatedly reminded everyone to chat with the young lady on WeChat.

Su Mingyan adopted a friendly attitude, responding to every question, "Don't worry, I'll add her on WeChat when I get back, and I'll bring her back for you to see tomorrow. We'll go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get our marriage certificate the day after tomorrow."

The old lady laughed and scolded, "You brat, be serious, there's no way to do this."

Watching the Maybach's taillights disappear behind the tall, straight cypress trees by the roadside, Old Su put his hands behind his back and said, "You're just going to give him the car like this, without letting him choose for himself?"

"If I let him choose, I'm afraid he wouldn't be able to find me a granddaughter-in-law even in ten years."

Su Mingyan is dragging his feet on this matter. He gives me several options, but he always says that one is bad or that is bad. It would be better to just give me one option and let me deal with it slowly.

On the way back, Su Ruoyun held the photo in her hand and examined it closely. The woman in the photo wore a long, flowing dress, had a gentle and bright appearance, and exuded a scholarly air; she was the kind of person who looked very cultured.

"She's quite pretty. You're lucky to be able to chat with a beautiful woman."

"Do you want this good fortune?" Su Mingyan, with one hand on the steering wheel, glanced at the side with a bored expression. "If you like it, you can take it."

"I dare not accept this blessing. You should keep it for yourself, brother."

One major reason she wasn't pressured was that Su Mingyan was there to support her. Once Su Mingyan had chosen his marriage partner, it would probably be her turn.

Su Ruoyun put the photo back in the armrest box and sighed, "I have to get up early tomorrow."

"It's rare to see the young lady get up so early. Is it about the teahouse again?"

Su Ruoyun nodded, "I'll be overseeing the delivery tomorrow."

This is also a rare occasion for Su Ruoyun to work the early shift once a month.

The Maybach stopped downstairs at the apartment building. She grabbed her bag, said goodnight to Su Mingyan inside, and then walked into the building.

The next day, Su Ruoyun left home during the morning rush hour, only to encounter an accident.
