Chapter 29 I'm fine, thank you for your concern

"I--"

Su Ruoyun's eyes widened in shock, speechless with astonishment. She glanced back at Huo Jingcheng in disbelief, then her gaze swept back and forth between Ye Shi'an and He Jingrong.

On the other side, the two men's eyes met for a fleeting moment in mid-air.

Then Huo Jingcheng's gaze lingered on Su Ruoyun. He lazily raised an eyebrow, his peach blossom eyes slanted upwards at the corners, exuding an indescribable roguish charm, and said loudly, "Are you leaving?"

He seemed to have no intention of explaining at all.

Su Ruoyun was like a mute eating bitter melon—she had a bitter pill to swallow and couldn't express it. She didn't know how to explain it, so she sighed in frustration, "Let's go."

After all, it was a matter between the couple, and she really couldn't interfere. She could only reluctantly walk down the steps, and before leaving, she turned back and glared at Ye Shi'an.

Ye Shi'an glanced at her indifferently, not caring at all, then turned to look at He Jingrong, who was sitting opposite him with her head down and not saying a word, and turned to leave as well.

A fleeting shadow flashed across He Jingrong's eyes, and she swiftly grabbed his sleeve. "Is this how you handle things—by giving him the cold shoulder?"

A deep, husky voice slowly spread through the pavilion.

Upon hearing this, Su Ruoyun stopped in her tracks and subconsciously turned her head.

Ye Shi'an turned to look at her and asked in a drawn-out Beijing accent, "Otherwise, what should we do?"

I'll ask you one last time, why do you want to break up?

He Jingrong stared straight at Ye Shi'an, her index finger pressed against his heart, two tears still welling up in her eyes. Her words were direct and simple: "Is it that you're really keeping a woman outside, or are you about to die and don't want to be a burden to me, so you want to break up with me?"

Ye Shi'an didn't react much to the first half of the sentence, but when He Jingrong said the second half, he was stunned for a moment, and then his brows slowly furrowed.

He had known He Jingrong for many years and understood her well. The first half of the sentence was probably said by her, but the second half didn't sound like something she would say.

He Jingrong only had a few close friends, and he knew them to some extent. He could guess which "brother" had said the "good things".

Ye Shi'an slightly raised his eyelids, his peripheral vision subtly glancing at that 'Brother Su'.

There were no lights around the pavilion, and the light was dim and dark. Only a few wisps of moonlight, as thin as gauze, illuminated the small area. He could still easily see the expression on Su Ruoyun's face—an indescribable guilty conscience.

Su Ruoyun and Ye Shi'an made eye contact. Qingying's eyes widened immediately, a hint of doubt flashing in them. She didn't understand why Ye Shi'an was looking at her at this moment.

Belatedly realizing why he was looking at her, Su Ruoyun felt a wave of guilt wash over her as she looked at him with a meaningful gaze. She understood why he was looking at her and dared not meet his eyes again. Her gaze darted to the other side in a flustered manner, avoiding Ye Shi'an's gaze. She subconsciously raised her hand and pretended to cover her mouth and cough lightly, trying to break the awkwardness.

Ye Shi'an curled his lips into a slight sneer, his voice utterly nonchalant, "I'm perfectly fine, thank you for your concern."

The underlying meaning of his words was clearly sarcastic and unsettling.

Huo Jingcheng and Su Ruoyun both realized that the words were clearly meant for someone specific.

Hearing this, He Jingrong, who was in the context of the conversation, gradually filled her eyes with tears and murmured to herself, "So you really do have a woman."

She couldn't help but close her eyes, and tears instantly streamed down her face like beads from a broken string. Her body trembled slightly, and her heart felt as if it were being squeezed tightly by an invisible hand, each beat accompanied by a sharp pain.

The air seemed to freeze in her throat, and a feeling of suffocation overwhelmed He Jingrong like a tidal wave.

Her voice was low and hoarse, but Ye Shi'an, who was paying attention, caught it. Hearing this, he relaxed his strength, took a deep breath, and gently scolded, "What nonsense are you talking about?" His eyes fell on the wetness on He Jingrong's porcelain-white cheeks, and he felt a pang of heartache. He slowly raised his hand, his fingertips trembling slightly, and touched He Jingrong's cheek.

The next second, she turned her head to avoid it.

Ye Shi'an missed his target, his large hand awkwardly hovering in the air without any reaction. He then reached out again, and this time, He Jingrong couldn't dodge. She could only let him gently wipe away her tears with exceptionally tender movements.

After wiping away his tears, Ye Shi'an grabbed He Jingrong's arm and, with a forceful and unyielding attitude, pulled her away.

Beside the pavilion, only Huo Jingcheng and Su Ruoyun remained, completely bewildered.

Leaving now?

Su Ruoyun raised her eyebrows in confusion. So, they've made up?
Just as she was lost in thought, a voice drifted into her ears from behind.

"Still not leaving?"

"gone."

……

Since she had already driven, Su Ruoyun declined Huo Jingcheng's offer and drove home herself.

After returning home and washing up, she had a video call with Li Li and Xu Erhan.

After recounting everything that happened that night, Su Ruoyun stroked her chin and asked, "Do you think they've made up tonight, or will they make up tonight?"

Xu Erhan sat upright at her desk, a pair of silver-rimmed glasses perched on her nose, the lenses shimmering faintly in the light. As she looked at the reports, she answered her friend's question, "It's not exactly a reconciliation, but it's not far off."

Li Li held a glass of red wine lightly in his hand, twirling it slightly on his wrist. The crimson wine swirled gently in the clear glass, rising along the sides before sliding down, leaving streaks of varying depths. He said confidently, "I bet five cents that they've made up. That kid Ye Shi'an won't be able to resist bowing his head."

Xu Erhan and Li Li on the other end of the line both looked up and asked, "What do you think?"

"I?"

Su Ruoyun leaned back lazily, sinking into the soft leather sofa, her legs casually draped over the coffee table, ankles crossed. "I've never been in a relationship, how would I know?"

"Tch!" Two female voices came from the phone's receiver.

Su Ruoyun added, "However, every time they argue, it never lasts more than a week. They're both adults and know how to solve problems."

Minor frictions and disagreements are inevitable in a relationship. Problems are not a big deal, as long as they are resolved.

He Jingrong and Ye Shi'an had been dating for many years. They didn't argue frequently, but they did. Each argument usually lasted only one or two days, and this time the longest was only five days.

“So I thought we would get back together,” she said, then changed the subject. “But this time it was Ye Shi’an who initiated the breakup, so I feel it won’t be so easy to resolve.”

Su Ruoyun kicked the ball back with her backhand, "Do you think I'm right?"

Li Liyan's bright red lips curled up slightly, forming a faint curve. "When asked yes or no, you answer yes and no."

"Little Bamboo, are you doing a reading comprehension exercise with us?"
