Star Abyss Walker
Chapter 1 Is this really a 2D game?
Chapter 1 Is this really a 2D game?
"What's wrong with me……"
It felt like I had a very long dream. My mind was foggy, and my head felt like it was about to explode. I finally opened my eyes in a daze.
What came into view was an old ceiling. Probably due to a leak in the roof, there were obvious signs of moss growth in one corner of the ceiling. And just as my sense of smell returned, an indescribable stench assaulted my nostrils.
The mixed smell had a hint of decay and a faint fishy stench.
"wrong……"
I frowned, then suddenly remembered something.
Before this dream, I had just launched the official version of "Star Abyss" and created my own account.
Everything was normal until I entered the CD key for claiming the newbie set given to me by a stranger in the QQ group, and then something strange happened!
A black dot appeared in the very center of the screen and grew larger and larger, like a black hole swallowing the entire world. Then my body continued to fall, and when I woke up, I was lying here.
So... is this a game, or reality?
His mind gradually cleared, all his memories became clearer, and he remembered his identity.
My name is Ding Han, and I am a graduate student from Suzhou. I just graduated from graduate school and, together with my best friend Fatty, whom I grew up with, we came across a 2D game called "Star Abyss," which is touted as a AAA title.
In the beta version, thanks to my decent understanding of the game, I ranked 99th in the entire server. So after the official version was released, I called on Fatty to join me, planning to try and make a name for ourselves in this surprisingly exciting 2D game.
Even if you don't stand out, being among the top 100 in the closed beta is more than enough to earn some pocket money.
But reality is so different from imagination. When I finished creating the account and clicked to log in, I suddenly felt dizzy and then appeared in this place.
……
"Uh……"
I gently exerted force with my arms, trying to support my upper body.
"Are you awake?"
Suddenly, a voice came from beside the bed.
When I turned around, I saw a very pretty head appear beside me. It looked like a beautiful girl with big eyes, a high nose, and incredibly smooth, dewy skin, like a piece of porcelain.
"You are……"
My heart skipped a beat.
“You were unconscious for a long time; I brought you back from the wilderness.”
The girl slowly stood up, revealing a pair of extremely strong arms, which were even thicker than my calves, with bulging biceps and prominent veins!
"Holy crap, what the hell is this?!"
My heart skipped a beat, and I involuntarily shifted back a little on the bed.
"Don't be afraid."
The pretty girl, whose arms resembled Popeye's, forced out what she thought was a warm smile: "This is Winterspring, one of the few settlements in the surrounding wilderness. My name is Irelia, and I'm the town's sheriff. Don't worry, I won't hurt you."
"Oh……"
I slowly sat up straight, looking at my arms and legs, wearing a dirty white shirt and navy blue jeans. Everything felt so real, without any hint of being in a game.
So, is all of this just a game?
Or have I been transported to a place that isn't a game?
The thought of this made my heart sink. If that were the case, I would be doomed. A recent college graduate like me, with clear eyes, was destined not to survive a single chapter in this treacherous other world!
"You've slept for a long time, you must be hungry."
Irelia turned and walked to the table in the room, saying, "Eat something. We can talk about the rest once you've recovered a bit."
"I'm not hungry yet..."
Just as I finished speaking, my stomach betrayed me and growled.
Irelia took out a bag, took out some strips of food and placed them on the table, then poured some water from a dish, and looked back at me: "Eat these right now, I don't have time to waste with you."
"Eating a little bit is fine too..."
Feeling somewhat ashamed of her stubbornness, she sat down at the table. The strip-shaped food looked a bit dry, with many fibrous particles inside, but it tasted quite fragrant when she bit into it.
"what is this?"
After eating half of it, I clapped my hands, picked up a bowl of water and drank it all in one gulp. My dry and sore throat finally felt much better.
"Cookies made from dried earthworms and powdered flying insects."
What are flying insects?
"That is, cockroaches."
"Ugh~~~"
I involuntarily opened my mouth to vomit, trying to throw up all the food I had just eaten.
"Swallow it back!"
Irelia seemed a little angry, and slammed her fist hard on the table, making the bowls and chopsticks jump. My heart jumped at the same time, and I felt that I might be punched to death by her in the next second!
Looking at this Popeye girl, I forcibly suppressed the nausea I felt.
"Eat the rest."
She said calmly, "Food is hard-earned. The people in this town are scrimping and saving. You can't waste a single piece of food. After you finish eating, rest and recover. Then, you can leave if you want, or not if you don't want to..."
She looked me up and down and said, "You're young and strong, you can stay and be my deputy, serving as the deputy sheriff of the town."
As she spoke, Irelia turned and sat by the window, looking at the bright moonlight outside. She picked up a biscuit and chewed it slowly, seemingly enjoying the taste of the food immensely.
An awkward silence fell over the room. I didn't speak, and neither did Irelia.
……
Finally, I decided to do something, at least to test whether this was reality or a game. "Irelia, look how many is this?"
I held up three fingers.
"three."
She was very sparing with her words.
"Then how many is this?" I held up my middle finger.
What's wrong with you?
Irelia looked at me in surprise.
Confirmed. There are no mechanical behaviors, therefore, she is not an NPC.
After a while, Irelia seemed to be getting impatient with the silence between them. She slowly got up, picked up a double-barreled rifle hanging on the wall, opened the door and said, "I'm going out to get some food. Don't go out. Your body is still very weak, and you could easily become a snack for the aliens."
"An alien species..."
I frowned, a ripple of emotion stirring within me.
In Star Abyss, there is a hostile species called "Aliens". Aliens are mutated creatures in the Star Abyss world that have been exposed to nuclear radiation for a long time. They are different from humans and beasts and are very difficult to deal with.
After Irelia left, the room was empty and quiet again.
Perhaps because of eating, I regained a lot of strength, so I walked around the room and familiarized myself with the surroundings.
Finally, my gaze fell upon a hand axe hanging on the wall.
This is a hand axe with a very smooth handle, covered with mottled scratches, clearly indicating that it has been used for many years.
While my gaze lingered on the hand axe for more than three seconds, something unusual suddenly happened: a line of faint white text appeared.
My heart began to pound. I took another step forward, and the line of text rose and fell slightly with my movement. Once I was close enough, I discovered that there were even more lines of smaller text below the main text:
[Irelia's Hand Axe] (Quality: Gray)
基础参数:攻击2-3,攻速1.2秒/次,耐久度25/100
Equipment requirements: none
Description: Irelia's hand axe, used for many years, an indispensable and reliable companion!
……
"I go……"
I feel like my skull is about to burst into flames. Is this really a game?
Holding the hand axe, it felt slightly heavy.
Just then, I heard a series of "ding-dong" sounds.
[System unlocked!]
[Character panel unlocked!]
[Skill panel unlocked!]
[The interdimensional storage space is now unlocked!]
……
Character panel?
Just as I was silently reciting it in my mind, a ray of light gathered before my eyes and transformed into a panel of data.
【Shadow Chaser】(Main class not yet unlocked)
Rating: 1
Attack: 3-4
Defense: 2
Life: 100
Critical Hit: 0
Charisma: 0
Elemental Power/Psionic Energy: Not yet awakened
Overall combat capability level: 5
Potential Point Allocation: Strength 0 / Agility 0 / Spirit 0 / Stamina 0
Achievements: 0
……
I squinted. Hmm, a very standard level 1 newbie panel.
However, in the Star Abyss, you will gain 3 freely distributable attribute points for each level you gain, and you will gain 1 extremely valuable skill point for each even-numbered level.
Skill points are very important. Each time you learn a new skill, you need to consume 1 skill point. In my opinion, as a "near-expert" ranked 99th in the closed beta, the allocation of skill points at each stage is crucial.
I'm currently level 1 with 3 free attribute points. My main class is Strength, so I put all my points into Strength, which slightly increased my attack power from 3-4 to 4-7.
As for the concept of combat power level, it is actually the same as combat strength. However, the unique feature of Xingyuan is the combination of elemental power, spiritual energy and technology. Combat power is described by combat power level. So, just a few seconds ago, I was a weakling with a combat power level of only 5!
Along with the character panel and skill panel, the extradimensional storage space is also unlocked.
"come out."
I called out softly, and suddenly a blue cube about one meter on each side appeared before my eyes. It was completely empty inside, and I could reach in without any obstruction to put or take out items. It was very convenient and quick.
Furthermore, this extradimensional storage space is bound to another dimension, and it's likely that only I can see it.
Sitting in the cramped room, my thoughts began to wander.
So, this human wilderness settlement of Winterspring is actually my starting village? If that's the case, every player should be racing against time to level up and take on quests during this period; sitting in the room isn't a good idea.
But safety is also a concern. Everything I see tells me that this is a 100% realistic game with no option to log off. So if I die in the game, the consequences would be unimaginable. My real life might also be affected, and I might never wake up again.
At that moment, my gaze fell on an old, worn-out radio in the drawer.
The radio was covered in dust and had obviously been broken for a long time. Coincidentally, when I created my account, the secondary profession I chose was "Repair".
His eyes lit up, and he immediately started trying it out. He found a screwdriver, disassembled the radio to check, and sure enough, a wire had aged and fallen off. So he did some simple gluing, and then found two AAA batteries covered with teeth marks and installed them.
The moment the radio started ringing, the azure blue text danced before my eyes once more.
[Secondary profession 〖Repair〗 has been unlocked!]
[Gained the skill "Basic Repair" (Rank C)!]
