Reborn Cat Sheriff

Chapter 7 Obstacle

Chapter 7 Obstacle
"Boss, are we really going to kill this cat?"

A lean man hunched over slightly, looking obsequiously at the burly man beside him. His eyes kept glancing at the man's waist, where a slightly elongated bulge was visible.

"You're talking nonsense!"

The burly man removed the binoculars from his eyes, his fleshy face radiating arrogance: "Those of us in this line of work hate nothing more than those troublesome cops, especially their hyenas. Now the police have this Skynet system, cameras everywhere, I just want to smash all those dogs' eyes!"

As he spoke, the burly man slammed his fist hard against the stone railing, the objects around his waist and his belt making a metallic clanging sound.

Seeing the skinny monkey flinch, he sneered disdainfully, "Luckily! We've found a good spot! Zhangzhou is by the river, has its own large reservoir, and the transportation is fairly convenient. If you're so capable, why don't you build cameras in the reservoir too? Otherwise, don't even think about monitoring my business!"

The burly man chuckled smugly, peering through his binoculars at Lin Ge across the street once more: "But... I thought Zhanghe Police Station was a garbage place that didn't even have police dogs, but I didn't expect them to come up with something so innovative—a police cat? That's fucking hilarious! A police cat? Want a dead cat?"

"What's so hard about killing a cat? Did curiosity kill the cat?"

The skinny monkey chuckled in agreement, confidently stating, "Cats aren't like dogs; they can't stand being restrained. Look at how this little thing keeps running off to the side. Killing it would be a piece of cake, wouldn't it? For one thing, we could just find an opportunity to poison it and then throw it into the river without leaving a trace."

"Then I'll leave this matter to you!"

The burly man tossed the binoculars to the skinny guy and turned to leave: "Also, don't worry about Yellow Hair's business. That kid couldn't control himself, so he deserves what he got! Luckily, he doesn't know much about our affairs, so let him learn his lesson!"

After saying that, the big man left.

"Learn a lesson? Isn't that just crossing the river and then burning the bridge?"

Skinny Monkey sighed as he watched the big man's back, but he was already deeply involved and had no chance of escaping.
Carefully concealing the ulcers and needle marks on his arm inside his sleeve, the skinny monkey rubbed his stuffy chest, grinned, and held the binoculars in front of his eyes.

"Hey?"

But now, where is that cat in sight?

……

"They actually came for me?"

Lin Ge's face looked very pale.

He didn't expect that Nie Guoqiang was right. Huang Mao and his group were actually going to take action against him for a mere cat.

If these two hadn't underestimated the cat's hearing ability, or rather, hadn't completely underestimated that a cat could understand human speech, Lin Ge would never have imagined that a group of drug traffickers had actually made their way to Zhang City.

They even planned to exploit the fact that shipping was less regulated than land transportation, that small boats could dock anywhere without the extensive surveillance of public roads, and that Zhangzhou's police force wasn't particularly strong, while its tourism resources were already quite vibrant, to develop an "industry" in Zhangzhou. This group was extremely cautious, even considering using police dogs. Lin Ge's impulsive involvement in a case made him a thorn in their side as well.

Who would have thought that a group of drug dealers would be so determined to kill a cat?
Lin Ge really didn't know how to evaluate this group. Were they clever and cautious, or just imaginative? Did they think that without police dogs and surveillance, the police couldn't deal with mere drug dealers?

Did they not investigate? The deputy director of Zhanghe Police Station is a national police first-class merit recipient!

Going against this kind of monster is just asking for death.
With a shrug, Lin Ge didn't take this group seriously.

Or rather, their failure was already sealed the moment this group treated him like an ordinary cat.

Want to poison him?

This is a dream!

Lin Ge never accepts food from strangers, nor is he afraid of such underhanded tactics. On the contrary, it is the direct and unexpected targeting with guns and crossbows that gives him a real headache.

"However, we still need to find a way to get the news to Lao Nie. All those drug traffickers deserve to die. If we let them establish themselves locally, they'll become a menace."

Lin Ge didn't alert Skinny Monkey, nor did he intend to resort to the kind of stalking tricks seen in movies.

The most troublesome thing for him right now is actually the communication problem with the police station.

The key issue now is how to tell the police at the station the complete and accurate information he knows, without exposing his unscientific abnormalities that set him apart from other cats, so that those bastard police officers won't take him to a research institute for dissection and research.

How about anonymous letters?

Lin Ge picked up the claw to examine it, thought about it, and finally decided to give up. It was fine once or twice, but using it for frequent communication was simply a pipe dream. He jumped up a tree, chased away the damned magpie that had been following him, and looked down at the pedestrians on the road below, who were walking and playing on their phones.

"If only... I had a cell phone! But even with a phone, charging and monthly bills would be a huge hassle. Plus, these days all sorts of apps require facial recognition, which my hairy face can't handle. Sending text messages? I could try that if I got a phone!"

Lin Ge became increasingly worried, feeling that while mobile phones had made everything in society more convenient, they had also brought many new troubles that didn't exist in the past.

"Dad, I don't want a basic old-fashioned phone, I want a smartphone!"

A boy of about eleven or twelve years old pulled his elderly father's hand and pointed to the pear specialty store next door.

"Why do you need a smartphone? Do you want me to play games with it? Either a basic phone or a smartwatch, as long as you can contact me and your mom, that's fine."

The elderly father refused without hesitation. Judging from his clothes and appearance, it wasn't that he was stingy with the money; he was probably just worried about his young child being exposed to mobile phones.

"But all my classmates have cell phones! I don't, so I can't join in on their conversations!"

The boy was clever and quickly found a reason to persuade his father: "Besides, there's no need to worry about this kind of problem when buying a pear-shaped phone. If you don't give me that code, I can't download the game! My classmates have told me about this. Just give me a WeChat app so I can easily socialize and contact my teacher."

"Well...social skills are indeed important..."

The old father was quickly persuaded by the boy, but he didn't notice the sly smirk on the boy's face.

"What an idiot! Downloading software does require a password, but these days WeChat has everything. How can you monitor games that don't require a client?"

Lin Ge lay on the tree complaining, then continued to worry about contacting Nie Guoqiang.

When it comes to phones for seniors, this one offers even more versatility in operation. Designed for the convenience of the elderly and children, it is quite primitive in terms of operation and safety.

In fact, they generally use secondary SIM cards, which saves them the trouble of topping up their phone credit.

Of course, both feature phones and smartwatches have their drawbacks. Smartwatches are too easily monitored, and the quality of feature phones is generally questionable, yet they are ridiculously loud…

"But... as long as it's useful, what more do you need?"

Lin Ge then had another thought.

Before long, the old father led his happy-looking child out of the store.

Leaving aside the old father's pained expression, let's just talk about the child playing with his brand-new smartphone, laughing happily.

Suddenly, he frowned, looked down at the old-fashioned mobile phone hanging around his neck, and took it off with a smirk.

He casually tossed his old-fashioned mobile phone into a roadside trash can.

"what are you doing?"

The elderly father cried out in surprise.

"Why keep it? You can't sell it for money."

The boy said nonchalantly, his eyes fixed on the new phone without looking up.

The elderly father winced with heartache, but it seemed too embarrassing to rummage through the trash can in front of everyone, so he had no choice but to give up.

Now, it was Lin Ge's turn to be conflicted.

Nima!

Even though I'm a cat, am I supposed to rummage through the trash in front of so many people? I have my pride too!
"Mom! There's a cat that fell into the trash can!"

A commotion arose.
