Reborn Cat Sheriff

Chapter 463 Bon voyage

Chapter 463 Safe Journey

"Bon Voyage!"

On a crisp morning, Lin Ge squatted at the entrance of the training center, watching the special car heading to Chu City slowly depart.

Four silly big dogs simultaneously poked their heads out of the window, panting and enjoying the breeze. They seemed unaware of what lay ahead, or perhaps this play was the only brief respite they could gain from the fierce competition to come.

A ride-hailing driver stood helplessly beside his car, patiently waiting for the willful cat to get in. Sun Chang had specially called this car for Lin Ge before leaving, since it was a bit far from the city center and she didn't want Mimi to go back by herself.

Lin Ge remained squatting quietly, and even after the bus had disappeared from sight, he didn't turn back, lost in thought.

Ride-hailing drivers probably dislike these kinds of dawdling passengers the most. But the passenger is a cat that doesn't understand human speech, and this place is an official police training center; he can't figure out the cat's identity, and he doesn't dare to provoke it, so he can only squat impatiently by the car door, feeling annoyed. Seeing the cat lazily yawn and scratch itself with its hind legs but still not coming over, the ride-hailing driver is furious but helpless.

"Ah woo~"

Unable to resist another yawn, Lin Ge finally regained his composure. The long training session was over, and he could finally go back to the police station to enjoy a leisurely daily life.

What kind of life have I been living for the past week? Getting up early and going to bed late every day is just too much of a hardship for the cat.

Lin Ge shook his head and finally turned around.

"Can you go?"

The driver quickly stood up and opened the back door.

"Ow~"

Lingo gave a meow in response, then nimbly jumped onto the car. It didn't intend to cause too much trouble for the ride-hailing driver; cat hair and such wouldn't be good on the seats, so it simply leaned against the door instead of lying down on the seats.

The driver, relieved, quickly started the car and drove off.

As he drove, he curiously observed the cat through the rearview mirror. To be honest, it looked quite ordinary, just a little bigger and more robust than a typical pet cat, nothing particularly special. But this was the first time he'd encountered someone specifically calling a ride-hailing service for a cat, something he'd done for over a year.

It's not really that strange, though. I've heard colleagues talk about calling taxis specifically for dogs before, but this is the first time I've heard of a cat. But this cat was quite well-behaved and didn't cause any trouble in the car, so he was relieved. It has to be said, this policeman's cat is quite something; it even has a serious air about it.

The journey to the city unfolded slowly. Lin Ge's spirits lifted somewhat. Looking at the familiar streets and traffic outside the car window, he reaffirmed that this was truly his place. A cat like him, stuck in the middle of nowhere, was incredibly boring. His daily activity was confined to that one large training ground—it was utterly tedious. Moreover, there were only two or three ordinary staff members there, who didn't pique his interest at all. Even the food at the training center was mediocre; it couldn't compare to restaurants outside, and even the chubby chef at the police station was far better. After working here for several days, Lin Ge felt he had even lost some weight.

"Have you lost weight?"

Lin Ge looked down at his belly, and when he gave it a slight tug, a large clump of cat fur came off. Only then did he realize that it was time for him to shed his fur again; with the changing seasons and warmer weather, it was time for him to get rid of his thick coat.

"Nie Guoqiang is going to lose his temper again. It's not my fault that he flung cat hair everywhere."

Thinking of how cat hair flew everywhere in Nie Guoqiang's office last year when he was shedding his fur, Lin Ge put on an innocent look and yawned again.

'Didi! '

As the car was moving, a familiar Passat police car suddenly squeezed to the right of the ride-hailing vehicle. The driver's side window rolled down, revealing Nie Guoqiang's familiar yet serious face.

The bewildered ride-hailing driver quickly braked and pulled over. He then saw a police car stop in front of him, and two police officers in uniform got out on either side of him and walked towards him with stern faces.

"This...this is..."

A nervous ride-hailing driver broke out in a cold sweat, wondering if he'd been caught operating illegally. Wasn't Zhangzhou supposed to be lax about this? How come he was so unlucky to be targeted… And what about the cat? Should he just let it go home?

The ride-hailing driver panicked, and as Nie Guoqiang and Zhao Zhigang drew closer, his expression gradually turned to despair.

"Hey! I can't keep talking about it!"

Lin Ge sighed, pulled the door handle with a grim expression, pushed it open forcefully, and jumped out of the car. He knew that mentioning Nie Guoqiang never brought good news; that guy was unpredictable and could appear out of nowhere.

"Mimi, you run so fast! Nie and I were only a little slower, and you had already left in the car. We had to chase after you for ages."

Zhao Zhigang greeted Lin Ge with a smile.

Why are you chasing me? Do you need me to do some work again?

Lin Ge ignored him and just stared up at Nie Guoqiang.

"No need to go back. I'll take you to the long-distance bus station. Li Siyu is waiting for you there. The Chu City Public Security Bureau sent a message hoping you can participate in this provincial police dog competition as a special invitee. Hmm... police cats are still too rare, let alone combat positions like yours. It just so happens that the province also invited special invitees from Southern Xinjiang Province and Southern Province, so we simply invited you as well. Hmm... the news from Chu City came a bit late. When I called Sun Chang, she had already left. So I'll come pick you up, and Li Siyu can go to the train station on her own first. Don't worry, you don't need to participate in any of the six competitions. At most, you'll just show your face at the post-competition exchange."

Nie Guoqiang looked calmly at Lin Ge and slowly explained. When Lin Ge walked up to him, he turned around and gestured for him to get in the car quickly.

"..."

Lin Ge stared speechlessly at Nie Guoqiang, knowing that he was indeed doomed. He had a premonition when he accompanied Bei Bei to training; how could Nie possibly let go of this opportunity to make the police station look good?
I never expected that even after I got into the car, this guy would still relentlessly chase after me.

"I'm sorry..."

Zhao Zhigang chuckled and reassured the ride-hailing driver on the other end of the line, watching him hurriedly end the order and flee. The matter of commercial vehicles wasn't under the jurisdiction of the police station; what was more interesting was what Mimi was about to do. He suddenly felt that keeping cats and dogs at the police station would be quite fun, with all sorts of competitions and events every year. Being a regular policeman, on the other hand, was utterly meaningless, constantly busy with mundane matters and never having a moment to breathe.

Lin Ge wasn't in the mood to talk to Nie Guoqiang the whole way, and he didn't even want to respond to Zhao Zhigang's joking and laughing beside him. At least let him go home and have a place to stay! Passing by his own home three times without going in—what kind of behavior is this?!
To be honest, it's been almost ten days since I last saw them, and Lin Ge really misses his cats at home.

"I've already told Li Siyu what I needed to say. In short, this time you'll stay with Sun Chang and Li Siyu, behave yourself and don't cause any trouble. Minimize your activities during the exchange, and don't confront anyone who provokes you. To be honest, the identity of a police cat isn't accepted in our country, so be patient if you face any questions. Hmm... Of course, if you really have to go on stage and show your face, don't be shy. Show them what you've got, and let the facts speak for themselves."

Upon arriving at the bus station, Nie Guoqiang began his long-winded attempt to reassure Zheng Mingxing. Frankly, this should have been Zheng Mingxing's job; having Nie Guoqiang do it gave the impression that he was ready to retaliate at the slightest provocation.

"Is it a hint?"

Lin Ge made some uncertain guesses.

Nie Guoqiang and Zhao Zhigang had many things to do, so they handed Lin Ge over to Li Siyu, gave each other a few more instructions, and then waved goodbye.

Lin Ge and Li Siyu exchanged a glance, both looking somewhat bewildered and at a loss.

Things happened so fast that no one had time to react. Lin Ge was abducted on the way, and Li Siyu was conscripted while processing household registrations at the front desk. Neither the person nor the cat expected such trouble, and they looked at each other speechlessly.

"A province-wide police dog competition..."

Li Siyu sighed, never expecting to have the opportunity to participate in such an event. Speaking of which, Sun Chang was also participating; thankfully, she had company now that they arrived. But at least Sun Chang had been training Beibei for many days, while she…

"Mimi, we're counting on you from now on! I don't even know which way the door to that kind of place opens, and I'm completely clueless about the specific details!"

She gave Lin Ge a guilty smile. "Do you think I knew which way the gates of this grand competition would open?"

Lin Ge glared at Li Siyu speechlessly.

But since things had come to this, there was no other choice but to accept the orders. Soon, the bus to Chu City officially departed, and Li Siyu led Lin Ge to their seats. Looking around, there weren't many people on the bus, and no one seemed surprised to see Li Siyu carrying a cat as she entered. Although the driver was responsible for preventing pets from boarding the bus, Li Siyu had already informed him of Lin Ge's identity and mission, so he didn't say anything more.

The car drove on and soon left Zhangzhou City. Lin Ge lay lazily on the chair, dozing off, while Li Siyu took the time to search for information about police dog competitions on her phone.

Unfortunately, these official competitions rarely receive outside media coverage. Li Siyu searched high and low and only found a few press releases and pictures, which were of no help with her upcoming itinerary. In particular, she had absolutely no idea what the specially invited participants were supposed to do.

Of course, since it's an official event, there's no need to worry about danger or being scammed. However, since she's here, Li Siyu naturally hopes to help Mimi in some way; she's not content to be just a mascot.

An hour passed in this manner. Lin Ge was starting to feel drowsy, and Li Siyu's eyes were getting sore from watching. At this moment, the bus pulled into a rest area midway along the highway, giving everyone a chance to rest and use the restroom.

"Wang!"

Suddenly, Lingo heard a familiar bark, his ears twitched, and he opened his eyes.

"Hey! Beibei, this isn't our car!"

Sun Chang's voice rang out, jolting Lin Ge and Li Siyu awake. The two looked out the window and, sure enough, right next to the bus, four police dogs were jumping and barking. They'd probably all caught Lin Ge's scent and were incredibly excited. The four handlers, completely unaware of this, quickly pulled the dogs back on their leashes, worried that these four troublesome dogs might cause trouble for the passengers getting off the bus.

"Changchang!"

Li Siyu quickly opened the car window and called out loudly.

"Siyu?"

When Sun Chang saw Li Siyu peek out of the car window, he was taken aback for a moment, then suddenly realized and smiled: "What a coincidence! You guys are resting here too! When Director Nie called me, I was thinking that maybe we'd run into each other on the road! Haha... This time I'll have another company on my trip to Chu City, that's great! Oh, by the way, is Mimi next to you? Tell her to come down quickly, let's just go together from now on!"

Li Siyu nodded quickly, finally finding someone to rely on.

"Hey! Would you call this a persistent ghost?"

The incessant barking in his ears made Lin Ge sigh helplessly. They had only been separated for a little over an hour, so how did he end up with them again? But it would definitely be better to travel with familiar people, since they all had the same goal; so Lin Ge didn't refuse Sun Chang's request, and jumped off the chair and slowly got out of the car.

As soon as he got out of the car, a large face lunged at him, and Lin Ge instinctively slashed out with his paw. Bei Bei yelped and tucked its tail between its legs, then retreated. Lin Ge glared at it, annoyed.

Guai Guai, An An, and Ying Ying also came over, circling around Lin Ge and looking for opportunities to lick him. Lin Ge's two paws were simply not enough to handle them, so he let these four bastards run wild, and then looked up at Sun Chang and Li Siyu, who were hugging each other.

They hadn't seen each other for more than ten days, and they were overjoyed.

Sun Chang then introduced Li Siyu to Zhou Bo, Yu Rong, and Yuan Qu. In fact, the two sides had already met once before when they were working on a case, and it was only after introducing themselves that they truly became acquainted.

Li Siyu greeted the bus driver and then boarded the city bureau's chartered vehicle. The seats inside were indeed more spacious; there were only five people, four dogs, a cat, and a driver. Before getting on the bus, Lin Ge frantically shook its fur, getting rid of all the loose fur that had been clinging to its body for so long. As it shook, a white mist appeared around it, like rain; the shedding of a silver shaded dog was indeed as exaggerated as it seemed.

After doing that, he felt inexplicably refreshed. Just like when Yu Rong helped An An lose weight by cutting her fur, Lin Ge felt his body become much lighter.

"Tsk tsk tsk..."

Zhou Bo shook his head in disgust, only to be met with a fierce glare from Lin Ge as he turned around.

So what if your dog sheds? It's not like your dog doesn't shed! Silver shaded dogs shed twice a year, each time for half a year. If you're not happy about it, come and fight me!

Having completely adapted to life as a cat and the inevitable daily shedding, Lin Ge was now extremely annoyed by other people's exaggerated displays of affection. He had been trying his best to control himself, hadn't he? Whether in the ride-hailing car or on the bus, he had been trying his best not to move around and shed any more fur, trying not to cause trouble for others. Now that they were outdoors, if he didn't shake off the fur quickly, was he supposed to let it rain cat hair on the bus later?

Because he realized it was shedding season, Lin Ge was in a bad mood. After boarding the bus, he found an empty seat and lay down to doze off, ignoring the other people and the four restless dogs running around on the bus.

Hmm... An An looks really ugly now. I wonder how long it will take for its shaved fur to grow back.

Lost in these thoughts, Lin Ge gradually drifted off to sleep.

After the four police dogs found their leader asleep, they all quieted down and stopped making a fuss. They went back to their handler's feet, climbed onto the cushioned chairs, and watched the scenery rushing past the window with their tongues lolling out, remaining quiet and still.

After just one nap, we arrived in Chu City.

To be honest, as the capital of Chu Province, Chu City doesn't have the feel of a metropolis like Shanghai or Shenzhen. From the moment the highway enters the city proper, all you see are old houses and old streets. Elevated highways rise above narrow streets, seemingly blocking out the light and views from the buildings on both sides. Furthermore, although you can see many high-rise buildings and construction sites in the distance, there are very few new buildings on the side the bus is traveling through. The surrounding scenery and building designs give it a feel of ten or twenty years ago. Perhaps the only proof of its prosperity is the densely packed traffic and the occasional severe traffic jams?

The bus arrived during rush hour, and all the roads in all directions were completely blocked by vehicles. The bus moved slowly, stopping and starting, for more than an hour, causing some passengers to experience motion sickness.

The four dogs, who were initially very excited, were now slumped on the chairs, completely dazed and listless, their earlier enthusiasm gone.

Sun Chang and the others all looked exhausted, helplessly gazing at the bustling traffic before them. They couldn't understand why the traffic was so terrifying, even though they weren't even in the city center, just in the suburbs of Chu City.

"After all, it's the provincial capital! To be honest, looking at this flow of cars and people, I'm suddenly glad I work in Zhangzhou. In terms of population, the police here must be exhausted every day, working themselves to the bone!"

Zhou Bo said with great relief, then noticed that a conflict seemed to have broken out on the roadside not far away. Two people were shouting at each other face to face, almost kissing.

One policeman stood by helplessly trying to calm things down, while another, sweating profusely, tried to maintain order and prevent onlookers from getting involved. But it's human nature to join in the fun, and soon the crowd grew larger and larger.

A fight seemed to break out inside, but two policemen pulled them apart, one by one...

"It's the same everywhere! Whether it's Zhang City or Chu City, being a police officer means facing these kinds of helpless situations. People who get into fights and insults don't think much in the heat of the moment, but police officers trying to break up fights have to consider far more factors..."

Sun Chang also sighed.

The traffic picked up speed at this point, and the scene was quickly left behind. After another half hour of walking, Lin Ge and his group finally arrived at their destination.

"Chu City Police Dog Training Base"

Looking up at the sign hanging next to the gate, Lin Ge felt an urge to cover his nose.

Smells like a dog!

many!

It choked the cat to death!
