Reborn Cat Sheriff

Chapter 16 Odor

Chapter 16 Odor
Lin Ge didn't give Zhang Ke any face, and he didn't think that foreign cat food was necessarily better than domestic food.

Besides, even if he doesn't eat cat food, he knows that it contains a lot of additives and preservatives. Some people might think that cat food is more palatable and meets the nutritional needs of cats, but in reality, while cat food may not irritate a cat's stomach like human food, in terms of nutrition and hygiene, it's really not that great.

The only things that can raise piglets are everyday dishes.

Zhang Yong drove very smoothly, and Lin Ge couldn't help but use his two hind legs to support himself on the seat, while his front paws rested on the console on the passenger side.

The view here is much better than before; you can see the roadside trees rushing past and the signs.

Zhang Yong glanced at Lin Ge but remained silent.

Zhang Ke stared at Lin Ge with shining eyes, wishing he could take him home and raise him.

Only Hu Zhengping sighed, turning his head to look out the window as if he hadn't seen anything. This man was very clear about his own identity; he wouldn't do anything he shouldn't do or say anything he shouldn't say.

Just as Lin Ge was getting tired of the scenery and feeling drowsy from the swaying, they finally arrived at their destination.

"Mimi, come down."

Zhang Yong opened the car door and waved to Lin Ge, saying, "I won't show myself. You'll be with Zhang Ke today. Don't worry, Lao Hu and I will be keeping an eye on things and won't let anything happen to you."

"Crow's Mouth."

Lingo stretched, wagged his tail, and jumped off the car.

Earlier, when he saw Nie Guoqiang order Zhang Ke to change his clothes, he guessed that things would turn out this way. Nie Guoqiang and Zhang Yong were both familiar faces in the institute, but only Zhang Ke's unfamiliar face and the air of a rich second-generation would not arouse suspicion or vigilance.

Moreover, since Lin Ge had promised Nie Guoqiang to help him, he would never go back on his word.

"Mimi, can I hug you now?"

Zhang Ke squatted down, squinted at Lin Ge, and pouted like a fox.

Helpless, Lin Ge could only leap onto Zhang Ke's head, stomp on his hair twice to ruffle it, then climb onto his shoulder and wrap his arms around his neck. As for being hugged... he'd rather be beaten to death than let a man hug him.

"hey-hey……"

Zhang Ke smiled contentedly, patted Lin Ge's tail, and set off satisfied.

This guy would take two steps and then rub his hand on Lin Ge, then take two more steps and chuckle. Lin Ge finally understood why his girlfriend's Ragdoll cat was so hostile towards him; this guy had absolutely no sense of distance.

Fortunately, the distance wasn't too far, and just as Lin Ge was about to lose his patience, they arrived at their destination.

A not-so-large cement dock came into view.

Lingo jumped down cleanly.

"Huh? Don't you want me to support you? Mimi, you're going to be very tired today."

Zhang Ke felt rather regretful.

Lin Ge brandished his claws at Zhang Keliang as a threat, then turned and went back to the dock where the ships were moored.

One side of the boats is covered with decks, while the other side has two cruise ships, one large and one small. Further away, there are some civilian vessels.

This time, Lingo's target was these civilian ships.

Zhang Ke, posing as a curious tourist, strolled leisurely around the pier, looking around and wandering about. Lin Ge appeared to be following behind Zhang Ke, but in reality, he maintained control of the situation. When Lin Ge stopped to work seriously, Zhang Ke would pause, feign curiosity, and snap photos randomly with his phone. And when Lin Ge moved on after eliminating a target, he would lower his head, pretending to chat, his fingers constantly tapping away.

The cat and the person worked together quite well, at least the busy crew on the civilian ship didn't notice anything wrong with it.

After all, Zhanghe Reservoir is a scenic area, and it usually attracts many people to take photos. Many city dwellers have never seen a boat in their lives, but even seeing a rusty, peeling diesel-powered boat will make them excitedly take pictures non-stop.

Lin Ge slowly walked forward, passing one civilian boat after another. In fact, because it was the fishing moratorium for the past two years, there wasn't much fishy smell on the civilian boats, making it even easier for him to process the odor.

And so, he slowly made his way to the depths of the dock. The boats here looked like they had been moored for a long time, and they were all dilapidated and empty.

But just then, Lin Ge suddenly smelled a strange odor. This odor was peculiar; it wasn't the smell of the 'poison' his target was looking for, nor was it the scent of the two drug dealers. Instead, it was a smell that made Lin Ge uneasy, a smell that gave him the urge to turn and run.

It's hard to describe, but it's very suspicious.

Lin Ge stopped and looked up, staring intently at an old ship at the far end of the dock.

It stood out somewhat among the rusty ships, at least showing signs of frequent recent starts. A waterproof tarpaulin was tied to the deck platform, revealing the solid, square outline of the vessel underneath.

After observing for a while, Lin Ge finally confirmed that the smell on the ship was indeed unrelated to drug dealers. However, quite effortlessly, it actually had a scent that somewhat overlapped with that of Zhao Liang, the cat catcher.

Zhao Liang's scent was hidden within a strange odor, and even though Lin Ge endured the discomfort and sniffed for a long time, he could only barely make out its presence. However, at the same time, Lin Ge discerned that the strange odor was a chemical reagent that could frighten and suppress cats. It could make cats as afraid to resist as if they had seen a predator, but prolonged exposure to this scent would cause them to become inexplicably agitated, exhibiting aggressive behavior similar to that of cats in heat, fighting and brawling with each other.

Lin Ge couldn't figure out what the normal function of this substance was, but he knew that if this reagent were used in a cat-fighting game, it would definitely make the two cats fight even more fiercely.

"So... did we just stumble upon something unexpected today? The drug dealers didn't find it, but they unearthed the trail of the cat catcher that they hadn't been able to find for the past few days!"

Lin Ge felt as if he had found a new path after a long and winding road.

He stared intently at the old ship, which had at least transported fighting cats before, even itching to jump aboard for a closer look. Zhao Ke, who had been keeping an eye on Lin Ge out of the corner of his eye, noticed his unusual behavior and his eyes lit up, thinking he had found his target.

"Mimi, is there something wrong with this boat?"

Zhang Ke came over and squatted down as if to pet a cat.

Lingo flicked his tail as an answer to Zhang Ke's question, but at the same time he dodged Zhang Ke's outstretched hand, looked back at the ship one last time to memorize it, and then continued walking deeper into the dock.

"Isn't this the one?"

Zhang Ke didn't quite understand what Lin Ge meant.

But seeing that Lin Ge was still working diligently, he didn't stop him, but quickly sent Lin Ge's discovery to the small group.

"Hey, what are you doing!"

Just as Zhang Ke was about to follow Lin Ge, a dark-skinned man suddenly stepped out of the ship. He lifted the curtain, looked around, and then stared at Zhang Ke, saying, "This is private property. No taking pictures here. Get out of here!"

Zhang Ke glanced at the man, then out of the corner of his eye noticed that Lin Ge had disappeared without a trace. He could only quickly wave his hand and say, "I didn't take any pictures. I just accidentally went the wrong way. I'll be going now. Sorry to bother you."

"hurry up!"

The man glared at Zhang Ke, but didn't take the weakling seriously. Seeing that no one else was around, Zhang Ke also started walking back, muttering to himself as he returned to the cabin.

Zhang Ke walked more than ten meters before stopping. Looking back, he realized that Lin Ge hadn't followed. Not wanting to alert Lin Ge, he could only report the situation to his superiors in the group chat.

"Chief, I've lost my cat!"

"?"

A series of question marks appeared in the group chat, as neither Nie Guoqiang nor Zhang Yong understood what Zhang Ke meant.

"Mimi seems to have noticed something, but she can't quite put her finger on it."

Zhang Ke frowned as he carefully chose his words, leaning against the mooring post where the ship had no blind spots, and continued typing: "However, I think the people who got out of that ship are a bit suspicious, at least their attitude is a bit off. I took pictures of the ship and its number, and I'll send them to you now."

"Where's the cat?"

Nie Guoqiang ignored Zhang Ke's explanation and asked a concise and startling question.

"How would I know?"

Zhang Ke frowned, but dared not utter these words. At that moment, he genuinely admired the police dog trainers at the Public Security Bureau. Communicating with animals that couldn't be reasoned with, and having to serve them and make them obey—it must be incredibly hard work!
If dogs are like this, imagine how much more troublesome and disobedient cats are.
