Reborn Cat Sheriff
Chapter 13 Cat Dad
Chapter 13 Cat Dad
When Nie Guoqiang drove Lin Ge back to the scene of the incident, the scene had not changed much.
However, the cat trap that had been used to lure Lin Ge had been thrown into a nearby trash can by someone. The birds in the cat trap had also disappeared, most likely released back into the wild.
"Is this the place, Mimi?"
Nie Guoqiang stroked his chin and walked around the area, examining the broken saplings, taking pictures of the bloodstains on the leaves, and checking the cat trap he had retrieved. He had a general idea of what had happened.
Like Ringo, he was also unsure whether the person who did this was connected to the two drug dealers.
However, regardless of the circumstances, using a cat trap is illegal. Furthermore, the bird feathers found in the trap indicate that it was not a pet bird, but rather a species like the oriole, which is a registered protected animal.
In short, once that guy is found, he'll have to be detained for a few days.
The only problem is that the police station is understaffed; they're always working at full capacity. Investigating a case without a victim or police report is procedurally cumbersome and can easily offend people.
Helpless, Nie Guoqiang could only keep this matter to himself, rub Lin Ge's cat head, and choose to go back for the time being.
Lin Ge was fully aware of this outcome and had anticipated it. Or rather, he knew from the beginning that only he could resolve this matter personally and exact revenge. That bastard who dared to aim a crossbow at him had to be taught a lesson!
"Don't worry, I won't let you suffer for nothing! After I arrest those two guys in a while, I'll definitely avenge you. Daring to mess with my police station's cat, they're practically asking for trouble, aren't they?"
Nie Guoqiang comforted Lin Ge while riding his bicycle, showing great protectiveness towards him.
Lin Ge pursed his lips.
They quickly returned to the police station, where Jiang Yiyi had already arrived and was playing with the little tiger cub with Li Rong.
The little guy wasn't shy at all, and was excitedly playing with the cat toy originally bought for Lin Ge. The cat food in the bowl next to him also showed signs of being touched. The little guy is extremely adaptable and has actually gotten used to and even likes life at the police station.
"Director, the big cat needs to be observed at the hospital for a while longer. Its hind leg is broken, and it's quite serious."
After reporting to Nie Guoqiang, Jiang Yiyi squatted down and waved to Lin Ge, saying, "Mimi, you'd better treat your wife better from now on. Although I don't know what happened this time, it's a bit much that your wife was seriously injured while you were completely unharmed!"
Lin Ge rolled his eyes, turned around, and left.
Since the tortoiseshell cat can't come back for the time being, Lin Ge has an obligation to help keep an eye on her cubs.
Although Jiang Yiyi rambled on, she was right about one thing: the tortoiseshell cat's injury was indeed due to Lin Ge. Even if Lin Ge were a beast, he couldn't possibly ignore kittens that couldn't hunt. If the tortoiseshell cat stayed in the hospital for ten days or half a month, the two tabby kittens' lives would likely be in danger. Therefore, he had an obligation and a duty to make the trip, to look after the tortoiseshell cat's kittens, and to return them safely to the tortoiseshell cat when it returned.
After leaving the police station, Lin Ge quickly returned to his residential compound.
Just a few days ago, he swore he would never come here again, but now he's actively looking for those two little ones. What's more troublesome is that Lin Ge doesn't know the usual movements of the tortoiseshell cat family, so finding the two kittens won't be easy.
Fortunately, it wasn't a big problem; he could rely on his decent sense of smell.
Returning to the place where he had last encountered the tortoiseshell cat family, Lin Ge ignored the calls and invitations from the stray cats around him, and instead lowered his head to search for the scent of the tortoiseshell cat and the tabby kitten among the scents of all the cats.
Luckily, this area is indeed the usual range of tortoiseshell cats.
After determining the direction, Lingo walked two more buildings ahead. Soon he came to the vicinity of a house that was empty, with a large amount of building materials piled up in the yard.
While sniffing and searching left and right, I finally saw two pairs of glowing eyes in the gaps of the collapsed awning.
The two little ones hid quite well.
"come out!"
Ringo gave the order without any politeness.
"..."
The two kittens were startled and shrank back further in, sticking their butts out.
"Didn't you come and bother me last time?"
Lin Ge pouted unhappily. The thought of having to take care of three little ones like a stay-at-home dad for the next ten days or so made him feel like he was going to have a heart attack.
Seeing that the two little ones were still reserved and not as bold as the tabby, Lingo didn't urge them. He just sat down lazily, swishing his tail and looking around.
It's clear that the environment here isn't as pleasant as the area with the cats outside. However, cats aren't always friendly; it's common for male cats in heat to kill their kittens. For their safety, the tortoiseshell cat has no choice but to hide the little ones in this secluded spot where other cats don't usually come near.
But after living here, if you want to eat fresh and enough food, you have to depend on the wild cats outside.
You can tell from the size of the three little ones, including the tabby, that they are rather thin. Especially the little hawksbill turtle in the crevice, its tail is as thin as a rat's tail, it must not be able to compete with the tabby brothers for food.
"Meow?"
After staring intently at Lin Ge for a while, the little hawksbill turtle inexplicably relaxed its guard. It barked twice at Lin Ge, then cautiously peeked out from the crack little by little.
The smallest snowclaw tiger-striped tigress followed closely behind, emerging from the gap. As soon as it appeared, it rolled over and lay flat on its back, curling up its limbs and facing upwards.
The little hawksbill turtle sat crouched to one side, looking rather reserved.
Lin Ge knew that these were all gestures of submission.
But does he need it?
Lingo shook his tail, stood up, turned and walked out, then called to the two kittens to signal them to follow.
The snow-clawed tiger, certain it had been taken in by its leader, rolled over and quickly followed. The little hawksbill turtle hesitated, glancing back at its usual hiding place and confirming that Lin Ge carried its mother's scent before finally wagging its tail and catching up.
After walking halfway through the neighborhood, the two little guys were completely uninhibited. They jumped and ran around Ling Ge, occasionally barking arrogantly at the stray cats in the shady area not far away.
A few stray cats glanced at Lingo, then nonchalantly looked up at the leaves in front of them. Perhaps in their eyes, as long as Lingo didn't come to steal their territory and food, they could accept anything else he did.
The semi-domesticated wildcats have long lost their ferocity.
Fortunately, Lin Ge had no intention of taking over a territory for the time being, nor did he have any idea of taking these cats as his underlings. He was only worried about another matter: the Snowclaw Tiger and the Little Tortoiseshell Cat were so afraid to leave the neighborhood that they just wouldn't budge.
There are indeed many people and cars outside, which looks very dangerous.
But what's going to happen with this stalemate going on like this? Lin Ge was getting annoyed; he regretted taking on such a troublesome task.
"Huh? Mimi?"
A motorcycle braked to a stop next to Lingo, startling the two kittens who scurried away into the nearby bushes.
Lin Ge looked up and saw that Zhu Jun was passing by.
Upon seeing the oval-shaped, hairless scar on Ling Ge's forehead, Zhu Jun took off his helmet and got off the motorcycle.
"It really is you? If it weren't for the mark on your head, I would have thought I had mistaken you for a cat. Heh... Silver shaded cats all seem to look pretty much the same, huh?"
Lin Ge frowned slightly but ignored him.
"Are these two your offspring too?"
Zhu Jun smiled as he looked at the trembling bushes and said to himself, "I heard from Yiyi that your wife has to stay in the hospital for a few days. Looks like you're a good father, remembering your own offspring and not abandoning them."
"I am your father!"
Lin Ge cursed in annoyance and, without saying a word, scratched Zhu Jun's motorcycle twice. He knew this guy really liked this bike, and he wanted to see if he would be bothered by the scratches.
"Fuck!"
Zhu Jun was indeed on the verge of tears.
But he had no way to deal with Ringo.
If he dares to lay a hand on Lin Ge, Nie Guoqiang will kill him! The station finally managed to get a usable 'police dog,' and this little guy is far more important than a lowly policeman like himself.
"Alright! Alright! You're the boss! Fine, I'll take those two little brats back to the station for you right away."
Zhu Jun said with a displeased look, then put on his helmet and disappeared into the bushes.
