Chapter 79 Returning to the Palace, Laying the Carpet
The palace was so large that she hadn't even finished exploring it yet.

The palace was too small, and being confined to this small world sometimes made people neglect life outside. In fact, if you think about it carefully, it seems that no dynasty in ancient times was immune to war.

Since there is war, there must be winners and losers.

Moreover, many ancient emperors personally led expeditions, whether to boost morale or for other reasons.

It seemed that no one wanted to stand by and watch their city be plundered.

Song Yi sighed softly.

Jiang Lanye had no idea what Song Yi was thinking again, and assumed that she was just stalling for time because she didn't want to take her medicine.

"Drink quickly."

Looking at the dark bowl of medicine, Song Yi murmured, "Drink it twice a day for at least thirty days. Jiang Lanye, can you understand my pain?"

Jiang Lan laughed at night.

"If you don't drink, I'll feed you myself."

"I drink."

After she drank it all in one gulp, her bitter little face scrunched up, and then she lay back down listlessly.

Seeing this, Jiang Lanye thought for a moment, then called a palace maid to bring in a basin of very hot water. He put his hands in the water to warm them up, then dried them. Afterward, he lifted her undergarments and gently placed his palm on her lower abdomen.

Song Yi froze, and hurriedly grabbed his wrist.

Jiang Lanye asked, "What?"

Song Yi tensed up and said awkwardly, "I thought you were going to..."

Jiang Lanye was silent for a moment, then said, "Wait until my injuries heal."

Song Yi immediately exploded, "No way!"

Jiang Lanye sneered.

I won't hold a grudge against her for this momentary verbal sparring.

Jiang Lanye's wrist was warm. At first, he only knew to place it on her lower abdomen to warm it. Later, he suddenly learned on his own and began to gently massage Song Yi's lower abdomen in one direction.

It was indeed comfortable. The candlelight hadn't been extinguished. Her body relaxed, her eyelids fluttered, and in the end, she couldn't resist the drowsiness and fell asleep.

Jiang Lanye looked down at her for a long time, making sure she was asleep. He wanted to take his hand out, but when he heard her long, even breathing, he hesitated for a moment and didn't take his hand out. He remained in that position, enduring the glaring candlelight, for the entire night.

When Song Yi woke up, she found that although Jiang Lanye's eyes were closed, his brows were furrowed and his eyelashes were trembling slightly.

"Jiang Lanye."

She called out.

Jiang Lanye immediately opened his eyes, and the bloodshot eyes startled Song Yi.

"Didn't you sleep all night?"

Jiang Lanye had a terrible headache, and responded with a muffled voice.

Song Yi then noticed that the candles in the lamp seemed to be almost burned out.

"You didn't turn off the candle last night?"

He clearly hates bright light the most
Jiang Lanye's voice was hoarse with exhaustion as he said, "I was afraid you'd wake up."

After saying that, before Song Yi could react, he pulled Song Yi back into his arms and mumbled, "Sleep with me for a while."

Song Yi's body went limp, and she slowly closed her eyelids in response to his words.

The two of them slept until noon.

The eunuchs outside the hall couldn't resist rushing in to take a look several times.

Why is there still no movement inside?

After catching up on sleep, Jiang Lanye felt much better.

Song Yi had just turned over when she suddenly said, "It seems like...blood is flowing out."

Jiang Lanye didn't realize what was happening at first, until she sat up, lifted the blanket, and revealed the small bloodstain, then she understood.

Song Yi glanced at Jiang Lanye.

It seems that people in ancient times were taboo about things like menstrual blood, especially emperors, who would never sleep with a woman who was menstruating.

Jiang Lanye suddenly said, "Let me look behind you." Realizing where he was looking, Song Yi refused, saying, "No need to look, it must have been infected too. I'll change my clothes."

Jiang Lanye stared at her intently.

"Song Yi".

"Ok?"

"You're not feeling well."

Jiang Lanye's tone was resolute.

"Why won't you let me care about you?"

Song Yi was surprised by his question and didn't know how to answer it for a moment.

"It's not that I don't want you to care."

Jiang Lanye said, "Let's change it. I'll change the bedding. If you're still uncomfortable, go lie down on the low couch."

After saying that, he wrapped his dragon robe around Song Yi's body and instructed him: "Wear shoes and walk over there. You must not go barefoot again in the future."

Song Yi nodded blankly.

For the next three days, Jiang Lanye took care of Song Yi.

Even though Song Yi kept saying that she wasn't feeling so bad anymore, Jiang Lanye still insisted on massaging her lower abdomen every night.

He was clearly the one who was most seriously injured.

On their last day at the palace, Song Yi changed Jiang Lanye's dressing again.

Almost everything else was packed, but the journey back to the palace was bumpy, and the imperial physician was worried, so he asked Song Yi to change his dressing again.

After carefully unwrapping the white cloth, Song Yi discovered that the wound had almost healed, at least it didn't look as bloody and mangled as it had a few days ago.

"Jiang Lanye, your injury should heal in less than a whole autumn."

Hearing her say that, Jiang Lanye seemed lost in thought and responded with a faint "yes".

She changed Jiang Lanye's dressing, and the two rode in a carriage, just as they had when they first arrived at the palace. Song Yi rested her head on Jiang Lanye's lap, swaying all the way, and returned to the familiar palace when it got dark.

Song Yi got off the carriage in a daze. Jiang Lanye took her hand and suddenly said, "Let's go see the Golden Palace."

Song Yi wanted to ask what was so interesting about the Golden Palace, since it always looked the same.

But when she reached the entrance of the palace, she was pleasantly surprised to see that the floor tiles inside were completely covered with fluffy carpets. She couldn't help but squat down and touch them with her hands.

"It's so soft, is it made of wool?"

Seeing that she liked it, Jiang Lanye said leisurely, "You always walk barefoot, so you won't be afraid of the cold in the future."

Song Yi asked, "When was it done?"

"On the day the imperial physician took your pulse, I knew that you should take care of your health and not get cold again, so I ordered someone to do so."

Song Yi smiled, took off her shoes and socks in front of Jiang Lanye, and stepped onto the fluffy blanket with great excitement.

Who would have thought that the Golden Palace, which is always as cold as an ice cellar, would one day become like this.

She paced back and forth, or simply sat on the ground, like a frolicking rabbit.

Jiang Lan looked at her with a mixture of helplessness and doting affection.

Song Yi stood up and said meaningfully, "Jiang Lanye, you're so kind. You'd be even better if you didn't lock me up."

Jiang Lanye glanced at her, his attitude firm.

"impossible."

No sooner had the words left his mouth than a palace maid brought over two sets of robes.

Jiang Lanye walked over and took it.

We agreed that I would show it to her the next day, but I forgot about it because of various other things.

After the palace maid left, she silently closed the door.

Immediately afterwards, Jiang Lanye lowered his head and began to untie the belt around his waist in front of Song Yi.
