Chapter 8 Don't Call Me Brother
Qin Zhao and Lin Shi rode in the same car to school.

When they were still some distance from the school, Lin Shi called for the car to stop.

"Alright, Uncle Li, that's enough for now," Lin Shi said casually.

Uncle Li glanced at the intersection ahead, which wasn't congested: "The traffic is alright today."

"Consider it exercise." Lin Shi grabbed his backpack, nodded at Qin Zhao, and said, "Get off the bus."

Seeing this, Uncle Li asked, "Does Zhaozhao walk too?"

Qin Zhao didn't think there was anything wrong with walking; she had always used her legs as her primary mode of transportation.

But Uncle Li's expression made her feel that Lin Shi probably didn't have any good intentions.

She gave Uncle Li a reassuring smile, which was also a subtle way of telling Lin Shi: "It's okay, I'm familiar with the way here, getting to school won't be a problem. Besides, I have my brother, there won't be any issues."

After watching Uncle Li leave.

Lin Shi carried his schoolbag on his back with one hand and put the other hand in his pocket, looking nonchalant: "What are you pretending for? There's no audience here."

Qin Zhao knew it would be difficult to change Lin Shi's mind in a short time, so her smile didn't reach her eyes: "So what does brother want to do now? Beat me up again?"

"You can't blame others for your own weakness." Lin Shi snorted. He didn't beat him up yesterday. "At school, we'll keep to ourselves. Don't come near me, and don't take everything my mom says seriously."

"Also, don't call me brother." Lin Shi rolled his eyes. He didn't have such a weak, tattletale younger brother, who was also a bit effeminate. "If you dare to talk nonsense at school, you'll know what it really means to get beaten up."

After giving his warning, Lin returned and pointed at her, saying, "Don't try to intimidate me with my mother. Try tattling on me again."

"Did you hear that?"

Qin Zhao hummed in agreement.

He and Lin Shi didn't have much of an emotional foundation to begin with, so there's nothing to be sad about.

It's just that Yinghua students all seem to enjoy threatening people.

As soon as she entered the classroom, the lively discussion stopped strangely for a few seconds. Fang Tian glanced at her and continued chatting with the girls next to her.

Jiang Man was sleeping. Gu Yiming glanced at her and said to himself, "I'm going to the bathroom."

Qin Zhao sensed an extremely subtle atmosphere of isolation.

She lowered her eyelids and sat down in her seat with a natural expression.

Her learning progress is still too slow; there's a lot she needs to catch up on.

She didn't have time to care about such trivial matters.

She just didn't expect trouble to come knocking on her door so quickly.

Volleyball training during physical education class.

The requirement was to form teams of two, and both Jiang Man and Gu Yiming had their own partners.

Qin Zhao looked around and realized that he was the only one left alone.

The PE teacher told her she could find a team to join.

“Teacher, she’s with us,” the girl next to Fang Tian said, raising her hand.

Qin Zhao walked over and said thank you.

Ming Weiwei looked at her and said, word by word, "You're welcome."

The teacher has finished explaining the movements; now it's time for free practice.

Ming Weiwei commanded, "Put your ball in the basket, and push the bike basket over here."

Qin Zhao frowned slightly: "Aren't we supposed to practice?"

"It's just practice." Ming Weiwei tossed the volleyball in her hand lightly. "Are you going to practice or not? If not, just tell the teacher that you're used to working alone and don't want to team up."

Qin Zhao pursed his lips and pushed the car over.

"Well done." Ming Weiwei raised her chin. "Stand over there."

Qin Zhao glanced at them, then lowered his eyes and walked over.

A gust of wind blew past his ear, and Qin Zhao dodged to the side. The volleyball that was thrown at him bounced on the ground, making a sound that made his heart pound.

She turned to look at the person who started it all.

Ming Weiwei smiled, seemingly surprised that she had dodged it, and apologized casually, "It was a slip of the hand, let's start over." "Is it my turn to serve?" Qin Zhao picked up the volleyball from the ground and looked at Ming Weiwei.

"I already said it was a slip of the hand, you wouldn't be so petty, would you?" Ming Weiwei sighed. "I only dragged you along because I felt sorry for you."

Ming Weiwei took a ball out of the basket and handed it to Fang Tian: "This time, Tian Tian serves."

Qin Zhao assumed a defensive stance, his eyes fixed on the ball in Fang Tian's hand.

Fang Tian's serve was very tricky; Qin Zhao had to dive to the side to receive it.

Before she could even stand still, a ball slammed straight into the back of her head.

Qin Zhao's head injury hadn't fully healed, and his vision went black for a moment.

A girl ran over, picked up the ball from the ground, and apologized to her.

She said it was nothing.

Then, someone would always "accidentally" hit her with a ball.

Shoulders, legs, back, face...

None were spared.

They kept apologizing, saying they didn't mean it.

Fang Tian's eyes flashed with smugness, but she complained, "Do you even know how to play? Why do you keep crashing into other people's balls? Luckily it's not a competition, otherwise I'd be losing out if I teamed up with you."

Qin Zhao's fingers sank into the volleyball. He looked up at Fang Tian and Ming Weiwei, raised his hand, and slapped the ball hard.

I used all my strength.

A look of panic flashed across Fang Tian's delicate face, but her feet remained rooted to the spot, and she could only close her eyes.

"Clang-"

The ball hit the basket behind her.

Fang Tian snapped out of her daze, her face turning deathly pale: "Qin Zhao, what are you doing! You tried to hit me with the ball!"

Qin Zhao remained expressionless: "Student Fang, you've misunderstood. I was just practicing. You—"

She glanced at the people who had just hit her with the ball: "Didn't you all practice like this just now?"

"Is she crazy? I just hit her once, why are you looking at me?"

"I really don't know how she got into Yinghua. She looks like an African refugee, but she's surprisingly strong."

"She threw a ball at the prettiest girl in class; she's doomed."

The teacher walked over and whistled: "What are you doing if you're not practicing? Do you even care about your grades?"

Ming Weiwei: "Teacher, we teamed up with the transfer student because we felt sorry for her being alone, but she actually threw a ball at her."

As she spoke, she bumped Fang Tian's arm. Fang Tian promptly covered her head and took two unsteady steps back, saying, "I feel a little dizzy."

"Huh? Is it serious? Should we go to the infirmary or notify the parents?" The teacher frowned. Some students' parents were very difficult to deal with, and he didn't want to cause trouble.

"I didn't hit her, and I didn't actually hit her. Instead, it was she—"

"That's enough," Ming Weiwei interrupted her. "You do something wrong and won't admit it. What kind of upbringing did your parents give you?"

Fang Tian grabbed her hand: "Forget it, as long as she apologizes to me, I'll forgive her."

"Sweetie, you're just too kind." Ming Weiwei was exasperated by her lack of self-control. "She has to do today's cleaning duty too."

The PE teacher seemed to think there was nothing wrong with this approach and looked at Qin Zhao: "Does the new student have anything to say? Or should we call your parents to handle this?"

Qin Zhao pursed his lips, his expression devoid of emotion: "I'm sorry."

Fang Tian and Ming Weiwei were quite satisfied.

He looked down at Qin Zhao as he organized the sports equipment.

It's all volleyballs, so it's not that tiring, but you have to pick them up back and forth in the gym, which takes a bit of time.

By the time she finished packing, the venue was empty.

She put the volleyball basket into the equipment room, but before she could put it down properly, she heard a click behind her.
