Chapter 116 Mom, Don't Be Unhappy

Upon hearing that they were going to fly kites, Lin Zheng raised his hand in agreement, assuring her, "It's been a long time since I've flown a kite. Honey, you hold the string, and I'll make the kite fly."

As they were chatting, Qin Qiong called out to Qin Zhao, "Zhao Zhao, fly a kite."

"coming."

Qin Zhao picked one up casually. It was shaped like a blue butterfly with a gradient color and two long tails.

She had never flown a kite before, so she watched Qin Qiong and the others fly them and learned by imitation.

She first loosened a section of the release line, then ran with it on the leash.

I tried twice and got the hang of it, but several times I would fly up and then fall down again after a short while.

Qin Qiong comforted her, "Don't worry, it has already taken flight."

Qin Zhao observed the direction of the wind and ran against it. She felt a force, so she quickly loosened the string and ran while loosening it.

The kite flew higher and higher, slowly surpassing the trees, flying freely against the backdrop of blue sky, white clouds, and green trees.

Qin Qiong laughed: "Zhao Zhao is really amazing, she managed to fly a kite all by herself."

"I'm pretty good too." Lin Shi said, wearing sunglasses and controlling a red koi kite.

As he spoke, he walked towards Qin Zhao's direction, saying, "My kite is higher than yours."

The red koi slowly approached the blue butterfly, miraculously and eerily merging into the azure sky, perhaps the sky being another form of the ocean.

He raised his chin, and although his eyes were covered by sunglasses, it was still obvious that he was putting on airs.

Qin Zhao watched as the koi carp almost touched the butterfly's tail and said, "Don't come any closer, the threads will get tangled."

Lin Shi got fired up again: "Perfect timing, let's have a duel and see whose kite is better!"

"..."

"No."

Qin Zhao led the butterfly to the side, but Lin Shi insisted on chasing after her.

"Let's have a contest! Let's see who's better!"

"You're amazing, you're amazing, okay?"

Qin Qiong and Lin Zheng watched the two of them playfully bickering, exchanged a glance, and smiled.

After chasing for a while, Lin Shi clicked his tongue and said, "Stop running, I won't hit your kite. Take a picture of me instead."

Flying that high, you have to post it on social media to show off.

Qin Zhao glanced at him indifferently, then raised the string in her hand; she was still flying the kite.

Lin Shi: "Give me your kite and help me take pictures. I promise I won't let it fall."

Lin Zheng had a camera hanging around his neck: "I'll take the pictures for you."

Lin Shi: "Alright, Dad, besides the photos you take of Mom, what else can you take decent pictures of?"

"..."

Qin Zhao took a picture of him; it was a picture of the very handsome Lin Shi flying a kite.

His dad took a picture of him; it was of someone flying a kite.

Can those be the same?

"Hey, you brat!" Lin Zheng said, displeased. "Your dad even won an award in a photography competition!"

Lin Shi chuckled twice: "Yes, your company's photography exhibition, the judges don't want to work anymore and won't vote for you."

"..."

Lin Zheng was so angry he laughed, and complained to Qin Qiong, "Look at how this kid talks!"

Qin Qiong said with a smile, "I think my husband did a great job filming; he deserves the award."

"Yeah, my wife has good taste."

The air was thick with the sour smell of dog food (a Chinese slang term for public displays of affection). Lin Shi shook his head, not wanting to watch them flaunt their love, and urged, "Hurry up and take a picture for me, and I'll take one for you too."

It was Qin Zhao's first time flying a kite, and he was still a little reluctant to let go: "You can't let my kite fall."

"You can rest assured about my skills."

As Qin Zhao approached, he had a feeling the strings of the two kites would get tangled, but thankfully they didn't. "Look here."

"Tuck your chin in a little."

"Well, it looks good."

She took photos and compliments Lin Shi as she went, snapping many pictures of him: landscape, portrait, full-body, half-body and face shots, panoramic, portrait, and low-angle shots...

As Qin Zhao was taking pictures, he caught a glimpse of Qin Qiong out of the corner of his eye, turned the camera around, and took a few pictures of her and Lin Zheng.

This time, Lin Shi didn't lie to her. After taking the photos, he safely returned her kite and took a few pictures of Qin Zhao.

She heard Qin Qiong's voice and looked over. A blue migratory bird kite was caught in a tree. She was holding the string in her hand, and Lin Zheng tried to pull it off a few times but couldn't.

Qin Zhao put away his kite and walked over.

The little girl next to me giggled, "Mommy made the kite fly! It flew!"

Qin Qiong stared blankly at the kite, his expression not very good.

They started flying kites later than her, probably because they were already engrossed in the activity.

Lin Zheng comforted him, "We'll have the base staff take it down in a bit."

Qin Qiong lowered his eyelids: "It will take them almost an hour to come and collect it."

Her smile was tinged with bitterness: "This kite won't be able to fly today."

Lin Zheng put his arm around her shoulder to comfort her, his voice gentle: "It's okay, we can fly again tomorrow. If we can't fly tomorrow, we still have the day after tomorrow, and the day after that. We have plenty of time."

Qin Qiong forced a smile.

Qin Zhao could tell that Qin Qiong was unhappy because of a kite.

She looked at the blue migratory birds hanging in the tree and pursed her lips.

The trees on this lawn aren't very tall; they're mostly older, wider trees with rough, uneven trunks.

She stared at the blue migratory birds for a while, then hugged the tree with both hands, used her feet for leverage, and climbed up.

Climbing such a tall tree wasn't difficult for her, except the bark was too rough and hurt a bit.

The kite gets stuck on a branch, climbs up the tree, and then has to hold onto the branches to slide forward.

Fortunately, this tree has plenty of moisture and its branches are solid, so the risk of it breaking is very small.

Once she reached her spot, she carefully stood up, grabbed a handful of soft branches, and reached for the kite. The string was tangled in the branches, and it took her quite a while to free it.

"Damn it! Qin Zhao, what are you doing?!"

"You're really something, daring to climb a tree!"

Are you a monkey?

Lin Shi was taking a selfie when he saw Qin Zhao holding a kite in one hand, perched on a tree, and pulling his sunglasses down.

Qin Zhao reached the designated spot and, after confirming that the kite would no longer get tangled, threw it down.

"Zhao Zhao!" Qin Qiong and Lin Zheng came out of the tent when they heard the noise. They were startled to see Qin Zhao in the tree. They didn't dare to distract her and kept her safe while telling her to be careful.

He breathed a sigh of relief when he saw her land safely: "Climbing trees is so dangerous, what if you had fallen?"

"It's okay, you won't fall."

Her face flushed slightly, and she smiled shyly. She picked up the kite from the ground and handed it to Qin Qiong: "Kite."

She looked at her with her clear, shallow eyes: "We can release it today too."

Mom, don't be unhappy.

The blue migratory bird kite circled back into her hands. Qin Qiong looked at the kite, then at Qin Zhao, her heart melting completely: "You child..."

She tilted her head back, sighed, seemingly suppressing some emotion, and looked at Qin Zhao: "Are you injured anywhere?"

Qin Zhao shook his head.

"Don't do such dangerous things next time, not even for Mom's sake."

Qin Zhao smiled coquettishly: "I know what I'm doing."
