Chapter 74 Connecting to the running water
Grandma Tian looked at her eldest granddaughter with amusement, "Why are you still acting like a child?"

"Look at Yanqiu, she came over early this morning and filled both of our water tanks. She's such a diligent person."

Thinking of the girl's suffering, he couldn't help but sigh, "Sigh, she's just unlucky."

Gao Qinghe picked up a comb and combed her hair in front of the mirror on the washbasin stand, muttering to herself:
Whether her fate is good or bad is not up to outsiders to decide; it depends on whether she wants to accept her fate.

Thinking of the things she brought back yesterday, Gao Qinghe waved expectantly to her grandmother.

"What are you doing?" Old Mrs. Tian walked over, amused.

Gao Qinghe said mysteriously, "I brought you some delicious food."

When it came to food, Grandma Tian perked up instantly, following her granddaughter around and asking what she had bought and what delicious food it was.

Gao Qinghe took out several bags of spicy chips wrapped in oil paper from her bundle and waved them in front of the old lady.

Grandma Tian snatched it away, opened the package, and was about to try it.

Gao Qinghe quickly reminded her, "Be careful, it's spicy."

"I love spicy food the most." Grandma Tian raised an eyebrow proudly, and after a moment's thought, she easily tore off the packaging.

Gao Qinghe shrugged, put her hands on her hips, and watched her grandmother's reaction as she ate spicy strips for the first time.

As soon as the packaging was torn open, Grandma Tian smelled a rich, spicy aroma that made her mouth water.

She swallowed hard, glanced at Gao Qinghe, and with Gao Qinghe's encouraging look, picked up a noodle soaked in red chili oil, held it high, tilted her head back, opened her mouth wide, and delicately took a small bite.

Red chili oil dripped down her chin, but Grandma Tian didn't bother to wipe it away.

The rich, spicy flavor that filled her mouth made her widen her eyes in surprise, as if she had discovered a new continent.

"Mmmmm, smells good!"

After swallowing it in one gulp, Grandma Tian was already captivated by the taste of the spicy strip. She then stuffed the remaining strip into her mouth, chewing it with increasing delight.

"I knew you'd like it," Gao Qinghe said with a smile.

Grandma Tian nodded repeatedly, asking as she ate:

"How much is a pack? Is it expensive?"

"Two cents, not expensive." Gao Qinghe stuffed all the spicy strips into the big pocket of her grandmother's apron.
"However, you can't overindulge in delicious food. Eating too much oily food is bad for your health."

Grandma Tian squinted and said, "My eldest granddaughter is so filial; she always remembers her grandma when there's something delicious to eat."

Such a cute and caring granddaughter, it's no wonder she dotes on her a little more, right?

After finishing half a pack of spicy strips, Grandma Tian put it away.

My granddaughter is right. Even if it's delicious, you can't eat too much. I'll save it for her to take to the convenience store tonight. We can chat and eat it slowly, and it will make other old ladies drool.

While wiping her mouth, Grandma Tian asked, "Tell me, what do you want to eat for dinner tonight? Grandma will make it for you."

Gao Qinghe's eyes lit up with a clever glint. "I haven't had Grandma's ribs in ages! I want scallion ribs, braised ribs, and sweet and sour ribs!"

It's only because Huang Ying isn't home that Bao'er, no matter how much she's pampered, would be scolded if she heard her mother behaving like this.

But Grandma Tian was very happy; she was completely willing.

She took off her apron and said, "Come on, Grandma will go buy you some ribs."

The old lady strode back to her room, took out her savings, pointed to the bicycle, and asked her eldest granddaughter to take her to the countryside.

Since Gao Qinghe had nothing better to do, she finished a cup of hot milk that her grandmother had prepared, chewed on two pieces of rice crust to fill her stomach, and then rode her bicycle to take her grandmother to buy meat.

It's only a 20-minute drive from Shanghe Village to the township, less than 10 minutes by bike.

The grandfather and grandson happily bought five large pork ribs, along with some spices and a set of offal.

Grandma Tian had a sweet tooth, and when she saw a fresh set of pig offal, she wanted to take it home and braise it as a snack.

This was a good deal for Gao Qinghe, who got to eat not only three different flavors of ribs for dinner, but also very flavorful braised pork intestines.

Think back to the days when I was first reborn, when we only had meat every two or three days. Now, just a month later, I can eat as much meat as I want.

Gao Qinghe couldn't help but sigh inwardly, thinking that money really is the cutest little thing in the world.

After dinner, it wasn't completely dark yet.

The family of four were each busy with their own things in the yard.

Gao Qinghe held a plate of finely chopped pig liver that her grandmother had cut into pieces. She dipped it in homemade chili powder with a toothpick and ate it while telling her parents and grandmother that she was going south in a couple of days.

The parents' reaction was somewhat beyond Gao Qinghe's expectations.

She thought her parents might try to dissuade her, but they just told her to call home to let them know she arrived safely.

Gao Chongyi had a nonchalant expression on his face. "You've always had more ideas than your younger siblings since you were little. When you say you're going to do something, you've already planned it out in your mind before informing us. There's no use trying to persuade you."

"You absolutely must protect your own safety," Huang Ying repeatedly emphasized.

I'll also teach my daughter a few tricks for dealing with bad guys on the spot.

Huang Ying has been telling these tricks since she was in elementary school.

In summary, it was all bluffing by claiming that someone in their family was a police officer to scare people, plus cracking fingers and kicking the groin.

It doesn't seem to be of any use.

In reality, it's not very useful when you encounter truly bad people.

Because when ordinary people actually encounter these things, their first reaction is panic and fear, and they are unable to react at all.

The only truly effective approach is to nip any potential danger in the bud.

"I bought the best four-person sleeper tickets. I'll call you as soon as I get to the train station to let you know I'm safe. I'll also call you as soon as I find a hotel. I won't go out alone late at night."

After Gao Qinghe finished speaking, the whole family was speechless.

The courtyard was quiet when the village chief's voice came from outside the gate.

"Teacher Gao, is everyone home?"

The village chief walked in, followed by Zhou Zhenghua carrying a notebook.

He nodded and smiled at everyone in greeting.

His gaze lingered on Gao Qinghe for two or three seconds before shifting away.

Gao Chongyi got up and welcomed the two into the main room. Huang Ying also put down the hoe she had just repaired, brewed two bowls of hot tea, and brought them in.

The village chief said kindly, "We're all family here, no need to make an appointment, please sit down."

"I've come here to inform you of something."

"What is it?" Gao Chongyi didn't show it on his face, but he was actually a little nervous inside.

He guessed it might be related to his official promotion.

As expected, Gao Chongyi guessed correctly.

Zhou Zhenghua took out the approved documents and congratulated him on becoming a formally employed teacher starting this month.

Starting next month, I'll be able to get my full salary.

Seeing the Gao family members getting excited, the village chief raised his hand and said, "Don't be so happy yet, there's something even happier."

The village chief admired Zhou Zhenghua.

"Thanks to Zhenghua, the funding for our village's tap water project has finally been approved by the authorities. The village plans to start connecting the tap water pipes after the Qingming Festival."

Zhou Zhenghua smiled modestly and continued speaking.

"That's right, the poverty alleviation funds are limited. At most, they can only connect tap water to each household's doorstep. If you want water to be connected to your own yard, I'm afraid everyone will have to pay some money themselves."
