Chapter 35 Hatching Wild Eggs
I did hear them say that they encountered a group that was quite regrettable.

"If I had gone into the mountains with you guys today, I might have been able to catch one."

Yun Xiaowu thought to himself, "We don't want to go into the mountains with you."

Although they loved to show off, Yun Xiaowu and his friends knew their limits and hid the snake well without taking it out.

Upon running home, Yun Xiaowu immediately started shouting loudly.

"Grandma, Mother..."

"He's not home, the doors are locked."

Yun Xiaowu threw the firewood from his basket at the doorway.

"You guys keep an eye on things, I'm going to get the keys from Grandpa."

Grandpa Yun is busy at the new house, and everyone else, including Grandma Yun, is probably working.

People in the countryside rarely have time to relax.

Yun Xiaowu quickly ran back.

Yun Xiaoliu and the others were playing with glass marbles by the door, while Yun Jiao sat on the stone stool by the door, holding the fifteen wild eggs in her arms. Her soft, white hands held one of the eggs and looked at the sky with curiosity.

“I’m back. Grandpa said Grandma went to the fields to pull weeds.”

"Jiaojiao, what are you looking at?"

Yun Jiao turned her head slightly, her delicate, porcelain-doll-like face facing Yun Xiaowu, her large eyes exceptionally bright.

"Fifth brother, there's a baby pheasant inside this egg."

Her soft, sweet voice carried a hint of excitement.

"Really?"

The other older brothers stopped playing marbles, got up from the ground, dusted off their pants, and joined in.

"Let me see, let me see."

"Don't push, let me see too."

They held the wild eggs and examined them, imitating Yun Jiao's manner.

"I can't tell."

"I think I might have a bit of that."

Yun Xiaoqi: "Let's go get a flashlight to check. That's how Grandma used to check the eggs at home."

After the only rooster in the family was eaten, Grandma never looked at the eggs again.

Once the door opened and they entered the house, the children immediately found a flashlight, then huddled together and placed the egg on the light source.

"Look, there really is! There are so many blood streaks here."

"Is this a heart? It's still beating."

"Let's look at the others."

Of the fifteen eggs, only three were found to be clearly alive.

They couldn't see the rest.

"Quickly, let's put these three wild eggs in the henhouse and let the domestic hens help incubate them."

"Oh? What if our hen doesn't want to?"

"Try it first."

Yun Jiao, with her short legs, crawled after her brothers as the children ran into the chicken coop.

There were two chicken coops inside, both made from discarded baskets filled with a pile of dry grass.

The two hens in the house will go inside and lay eggs on their own.

There's a hen still in her nest here.

Suddenly surrounded by onlookers, the hen became restless and agitated.

"Is it laying an egg?"

Yun Xiaowu and the others curiously squatted down behind the chicken's rear end, wanting to see how the hen laid eggs.

hen:…………

Even if it's laying an egg, it will be so scared that it will hold it back.

"What are you doing?"

Grandma Yun returned home and saw her sons wreaking havoc on her precious hen. She flew into a rage, grabbed a piece of firewood, and was about to whip them.

"Run!"

Yun Xiaowu grabbed Yun Jiao and started running, but her legs were too short to keep up. In the end, Yun Xiaowu and Yun Xiaoliu each held onto one of her small arms, leaving Yun Jiao dazed and suspended in mid-air, her toes unable to touch the ground even when she straightened them.

"Little Five, Little Six, hurry up and release your sister!" "Grandma, stop hitting her! We just want the hen to help us incubate the eggs."

After being chased around the yard twice, they quickly offered explanations all at once.

Grandma Yun stopped, and the group of them huddled together opposite her, their eyes warily fixed on the stick in her hand.

Yun Jiao, with her short legs dangling in the air, cried out, "Let me go! I want to get down!"

Her two older brothers then quickly put her down.

"What do you mean by hatching eggs?"

Grandma Yun held Yun Jiao and slapped Yun Xiao Wu and Yun Xiao Liu on the arm, but she didn't use any force; it looked like she was just giving them a light pat.

"What if I hurt my younger sister while running around like this?"

Yun Xiaowu shamelessly replied, "No, I loved playing like this when I was little."

"Isn't it fun, Jiaojiao?"

Yun Jiao muttered, "You guys aren't running in unison."

If she didn't run in unison and pulled on her arm, it wouldn't be as fun.

Yun Xiaowu and Yun Xiaoliu immediately scratched their heads in embarrassment.

Yun Xiaowu: "It's all your fault for running too slowly."

Yun Xiaoliu retorted slowly, "It's clearly because you ran too fast."

The two brothers disliked each other.

"Brother, wild eggs."

Yun Jiao reminded her, and Yun Xiaoqi quickly took out the wild eggs.

“We found several wild eggs, and these three contain baby pheasants. We are planning to have our hen help incubate them.”

Grandma Yun took a look and it was true. After checking, she found that all three wild eggs contained chicks.

"Give it to me, I'll take it and try it out. My hen at home is brooding right now."

But their eggs are unhatched; these three wild eggs, though, are worth a try.

However, three is too few.

She checked the other eggs as well and found three fertilized eggs that were not easy to identify, so she took them out as well.

The children watched helplessly as only nine wild eggs remained, not even enough for their family to eat.

"I'll look for other eggs in the next couple of days so the hen can incubate them too."

She only had two hens left at home, and she had always wanted to raise a few more.

Several children followed Grandma Yun, watching her skillfully pry open the hen lying in the coop and then pull a warm egg out from under its belly.

The hen seemed a little anxious as she watched her take the egg away, clucking incessantly.

The commotion didn't end until Grandma Yun put the six wild eggs back in.

Once outside the chicken coop, they chattered excitedly about what they had found in the mountains that day.

When the topic of snakes came up, Grandma Yun quickly checked Yun Jiao and anxiously asked her if she had been bitten.

Yun Jiao stood there, letting her look at her hands and face, and she behaved herself without making a fuss, only shaking her head when asked.

"No."

"That was a black rat snake. My sister was fine, and she was really good at smashing the snake's head."

Grandma Yun soon saw the snake and pheasant they had caught.

The younger children were clamoring for dragon and phoenix soup.

Yun Jiao also stared at her with her big, expectant eyes.

Grandma Yun, carrying the pheasant, said, "Alright, Grandma will make you Dragon and Phoenix Soup today."

"great!"

The children cheered.

Yun Jiao and Yun Xiao Jiu helped boil water, while Yun Xiao Jiu tended the fire. Yun Jiao sat on a small stool next to them, slowly munching on a guava.

It was a bit hot, so she moved her small stool a little to the side.

Yun Xiaowu and the others then went to deal with the pheasants and snakes.

"We even brought back so many morel mushrooms! These are really good stuff."

Yun Jiao poked her little head out, her mouth still covered with bits of guava pulp and juice.

"Grandma, we're not selling it, we'll eat it ourselves."
