Chapter 88 Who are we following?
Chapter 88 Who are we following?
Chi Yige wore a thin beige trench coat today, with a white shirt underneath and straight-leg casual pants. Shedding the restrained feel of her usual suits, she looked more youthful and capable.
Wen Jinnian glanced at him sideways and saw that the corners of his lips were slightly curved, and his fingertips gently hooked her hand, preventing her from breaking free.
Her sullen appearance only made someone feel even happier.
Chi Yige turned his gaze to Jiang Shu: "Young Master Jiang, where do you plan to eat?"
"There are a few good restaurants on the 102nd floor; Niannian should like them."
"Mind including me?"
Chi Yige took the initiative to speak, which surprised Jiang Shu. He turned around and immediately smiled ingratiatingly, "That would be exactly what I wanted. I happen to have some questions about the project that I would like to ask Young Master Chi."
Chi Yige smiled and nodded. As Jiang Shu turned around, Wen Jinnian hurriedly tried to pull her hand away, but he held it even tighter.
He took a half step forward without making a sound, blocking Jiang Shu's view, and gently stroked her palm with his fingertips.
Wen Jin was furious and dug her nails into the back of his hand, but he chuckled softly in response. He gripped her hand even tighter, and the heat from his palm burned her skin, making her panic.
She really wanted to ask Chi Yige if he really loved playing with thrills.
The latter merely glanced at the documents in Li Mingyi's hand, deliberately drawing out his words: "Look, a pile of documents are waiting for me to handle official business... I can't even eat on time."
His tone carried a hint of feigned sorrow.
Wen Jinian's palms were itchy from his tickling, and she cursed inwardly that he must be doing it on purpose.
She dared to say, "Whoever's tired of living, dares to stop him from eating."
I'd rather starve to death.
She thought about him hundreds of times in her heart, only to be met with a single, involuntary remark from Chi Yige.
"Wen, judging from your expression, you seem quite unhappy?"
Jiang Shu quickly turned to Wen Jinnian to smooth things over, saying, "Young Master Chi, Nian Nian just had some trouble and is in a bad mood..."
Chi Yige glanced sideways at the woman beside him who was angrily pinching his hand and leaving teeth marks, and chuckled, "Is that so?"
Wen Jinian felt flustered by his direct gaze, so she quickly pulled her hand back and glared at him.
"How could I dare, Dr. Chi? I'm just afraid the food won't suit your esteemed and precious palate."
"I've just been hungry for too long."
Chi Yige deliberately emphasized the word "hungry" in a sticky, cloying way: "There's always something that suits my taste, I'm afraid I can't wait any longer."
Wen Jinian got goosebumps on her arm and poked it a few times.
A fox spirit, the very essence of a fox spirit.
Li Mingyi lowered his head, suppressing a laugh, his shoulders trembling.
The elevator dinged softly, and Wen Jinnian breathed a sigh of relief.
This cry for help finally broke the tense atmosphere.
Jiang Shu stepped out of the elevator first, and the group turned into Tin Lung Heen, a two-Michelin-starred Cantonese restaurant in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in the Harbour area. The restaurant is decorated mainly with mahogany and has floor-to-ceiling windows that are two stories high, offering a panoramic view of Victoria Harbour.
We ordered signature dishes: steamed Alaskan crab meat and shrimp dumplings with salmon roe, steamed fish maw with crab roe and conch, steamed grouper dumplings with scallions, roast goose, white shrimp, and chicken feet with black bean sauce... all of which are Wen Jinian's favorite dishes.
After they sat down, Jiang Shu and Chi Yige started talking about the project details.
Wen Jinian was sipping her Pu'er tea listlessly when suddenly her ankle tightened as the tea soup rolled over her tongue.
She looked down and saw that Chi Yige's long legs had somehow reached out, the tip of his leather shoes hooking the edge of her canvas shoes.
She coughed suddenly, splashing tea onto the rim of the celadon cup. Jiang Shu asked her with concern, and she hurriedly covered it up, saying, "I was bitten by a mosquito."
The "harassment" under the tablecloth did not stop.
Chi Yige chuckled and switched to his left leg, his knee brushing against her with ill intent.
Wen Jinnian's cheeks burned. While Jiang Shu was drinking tea with his head down, she kicked the troublesome foot hard, only to run into his triumphant gaze.
He even deliberately let out a muffled groan, startling Jiang Shu into looking up. She could only grip her teacup tightly, silently churning in her mind. Li Mingyi sat to the side, consciously minimizing his presence.
Once the Cantonese dishes were laid out on the table, Jiang Shu skillfully placed a piece of chicken feet in black bean sauce on Wen Jinnian's plate. She had just whispered "thank you" when Wen Jinnian said this.
Chi Yige picked up a piece of roast goose and put it in her bowl, his fingertips brushing against the edge of the porcelain spoon: "Wen, try this roast goose."
Jiang Shu raised an eyebrow at Chi Yige's overly enthusiastic manner: "Young Master Chi seems to know Nian Nian's tastes quite well?"
"After all, we're alumni." Chi Yige smiled frankly and added another shrimp dumpling to her bowl. "The shrimp dumplings here are pretty good, why don't you try some?"
Wen Jinnian stared at the mountain of food piled up in her bowl, even covering the food Jiang Shu had picked up.
She lowered her head and chuckled softly, "You childish devil."
She kicked the tip of his leather shoe under the table. "Thank you, Dr. Chi, but we're not close at school."
Chi Yige also laughed, and as Jiang Shu turned her head to call the waiter, his fingertips quickly brushed against her wrist: "Why are you being so polite? Whether we're familiar or not, Wen should know best."
Li Mingyi shoveled rice into his mouth, almost choking on the stir-fried clams with black bean sauce.
This isn't a meal; it's clearly a battleground where the two masters are subtly vying for power!
Jiang Shu poured a glass of plum juice into Wen Jinnian's cup and asked with a smile, "Were you close at school?"
"Unfamiliar."
"Cooked".
The two spoke at the same time, their eyes meeting.
Wen Jinnian gripped the tablecloth tightly with her fingertips, while Chi Yige twirled his chopsticks and chuckled, "I have a deep impression of it."
Wen Jinian knew he was referring to that matter.
“I studied fine arts, while Dr. Chi studied finance and law. We didn’t have much interaction during those four years.”
She had just breathed a sigh of relief when she heard someone slowly continue, "But what Wen said back then, shouting through a megaphone at the entrance of the lab building, made him well-known throughout the department."
Suddenly, a soft force wrapped around him under the table. Wen Jinnian's toes hooked tightly around his calf, her eyes pleading pitifully.
Chi Yige looked down at her flustered appearance, his Adam's apple bobbing slightly. He suddenly changed his words: "What did you shout again? Oh right, you said the wisteria in front of the building needed to be pruned because it was blocking the sunlight for her sketching."
Jiang Shu raised an eyebrow: "That's it?"
"That's it."
Chi Yige ran his fingertips along the rim of the cup. "After all, Wen is the first person to get those old scholars in the lab building to hire someone to cut flowers, which is unprecedented for them."
Wen Jinian stared at his smiling eyes, then belatedly realized that he had tricked her again.
He deliberately kicked hard under the table.
Chi Yige had just picked up some food and put it in his mouth when he was suddenly kicked. He pretended to be calm and dabbed at the corner of his lips with a tissue. When he looked up, he met Wen Jinnian's mischievous smile across from him.
He raised an eyebrow and smiled back. Out of the corner of his eye, Jiang Shu was focused on peeling shrimp, completely unaware of the intertwined toes under the table.
Li Mingyi lowered his head and ate his rice, silently sighing for his "silly uncle," but secretly pleased that his young master was showing signs of infatuation, so he was in a good mood.
He said his salary might increase by 30% next month.
When they had almost finished eating, Wen Jinnian got up and said she was going to the restroom, taking her phone as she turned down the corridor.
Just as she finished washing her hands and stepped outside, she saw a familiar figure lurking suspiciously around the corner. Following her gaze, she spotted Jiang Xiao.
He was dining alone by the window, while the waiter was placing takeout boxes on the table.
Wearing sunglasses, Wen Jin huddled behind a pillar, keeping a close eye on Jiang Xiao's every move.
Just as Wen Jinnian was wondering what was going on, someone suddenly grabbed her lower back and pulled her into a familiar embrace.
Looking up, he met Chi Yige's captivating eyes. Chi Yige, wearing a black mask, lowered his voice and asked, "Who are you following?"
