Chapter 1, The Royal Physician of the King of Han

Chapter 1, The Royal Physician of the King of Han
"Your Majesty, please spare your life! Your Majesty, please spare your life!"

The middle-aged man, being dragged by two armored soldiers, screamed in terror.

The dozen or so people standing to the side had somber expressions, and none of them responded. They looked at the middle-aged man being dragged away with pity in their eyes, but also with a sense of shared misfortune, because they didn't know if they would be the next to be dragged away.

"Cough cough cough, His Majesty said that if you cannot come up with a way to treat Consort Hu, the fate of the physician who was just taken away will be your fate."

The King of Han's personal attendant glanced at the dozen or so physicians before him and spoke sternly.

"In half an hour, we will send someone to fetch a new physician to examine Consort Hu. If there is still no prescription, hehehe."

The eunuch chuckled sinisterly a few times, then glanced at the dozen or so physicians.

His gaze lingered on the young man at the very end for a moment before he left with a cold laugh.

Why are you looking at me like that? Does this damned eunuch have some kind of peculiar hobby?
Standing at the very end of the medical staff, Xu Qing muttered to himself, "In my previous life, I had heard that these eunuchs, because of their physical disabilities, often had unusual tastes, regardless of gender."

The thought of the Han King's eunuch's gaze lingering on him just now made Xu Qing feel nauseous.

The reality was not as Xu Qing had imagined. Despite being under the age of 18, he stood out conspicuously among the group of physicians who were generally in their thirties or forties.

As a transmigrator, Xu Qing has been in this world for a month.

In his previous life, Xu Qing was just a college student majoring in traditional Chinese medicine who was accidentally transported to this world by a dump truck through a portal.

When Xu Qing first arrived in this world, he thought he had come to the Warring States period. However, after learning that the current King of Han had two favorite concubines, one named Lady Mingzhu and the other named Lady Hu, and that there was a great general named Ji Wuye who controlled the court, he realized that he had come to the world of Qin's Moon.

Xu Qing had watched quite a few of the anime series Qin's Moon and Nine Songs of the Sky. After all, Xuanji Animation Studio, aside from anything else, had top-notch female character modeling and beautiful legs.

However, just because Xu Qing likes to watch doesn't mean he wants to come into this world.

He was a transmigrator who had no strength, no status, and no ability. Coming to such a chaotic world was basically courting death.

The reason he was able to enter the Royal Medical Academy of the Han King and become a physician was thanks to the original owner's father.

His original father was a physician in the Han royal palace. He died young due to illness, so he honorably succeeded his father's position and became the youngest physician in the Korean royal hospital.

Xu Qing rejected this result. Whether it was the original owner of the body, a hereditary physician with a long family tradition of medical knowledge, or the college student majoring in traditional Chinese medicine in his previous life, Xu Qing was only a half-baked expert.

There's a saying that goes, "It's better to gamble on the body's self-healing ability than to have a university medical student treat patients." (This is just a joke; I have no prejudice against medical students, but rather great respect for them.)
For the past month, Xu Qing has been extremely cautious, walking on thin ice, trying her best to minimize her presence in the Imperial Hospital, worried that people would see her as a half-baked expert.

Fortunately, neither the other physicians in the Imperial Medical Academy nor the concubines in the palace saw that he was young and therefore did not send him to see a doctor, which allowed him to escape a month of illness.

After the eunuch had gone far away, a middle-aged physician began to curse loudly.
"How dare a mere eunuch act so presumptuously in the Imperial Hospital!"

A dozen or so people glanced at the middle-aged physician, saying nothing on the surface, but their hearts were filled with contempt.

If you're so capable, go ahead and say it to their face. See if they'll badmouth you to the King. It's just that we're all colleagues, so we don't say these things out loud.

"What's the use of saying all this? The most urgent task is to find a way to cure Consort Hu's anorexia. If we can't get her to eat, I'm afraid our entire Imperial Medical Academy will be beheaded," said the head physician, whose hair and beard were somewhat gray. He was the Imperial Physician of the Han King's Palace, in charge of the entire Imperial Medical Academy.

"Lady Hu is suffering from mental and emotional distress, which has damaged her liver and stomach, leading to her loss of appetite. We've tried everything we can think of, but nothing has worked. If we can't resolve what's troubling Lady Hu, even a miracle worker might not be able to help," a physician said helplessly.

These words immediately drew sighs from the imperial physicians. They all knew about Consort Hu's illness and had prescribed many remedies and used many medicines, but none of them could solve Consort Hu's anorexia.

"If His Majesty sends someone to invite someone to treat the patient later, who should go?"

Upon hearing this, everyone in unison took a step back, their faces filled with resistance. What a joke! The example of Imperial Physician Wen being dragged away was still fresh in their minds; how could they possibly take the fall? But someone among them had to go.

In an instant, everyone looked at Xu Qing, the youngest person standing at the very end.

Xu Qing saw that everyone was looking at him and cursed inwardly.

“Xu Qing, you have been taking over from your father for half a month now. Previously, we all thought you were too young and worried that you might offend the nobles in the palace, so we did not let you go to see a doctor.”

"But you are, after all, the son of Physician Xu. Physician Xu comes from a family with profound medical knowledge. When he was alive, he was renowned in our Imperial Hospital and was known for his miraculous healing skills. Whenever he personally treated a patient, the medicine would cure the illness. As Physician Xu's son, you must have inherited his abilities. In a month, you should be familiar with the Imperial Hospital and be able to examine and treat the nobles."

"Consort Hu is one of the King's two most favored concubines. If you can cure Consort Hu, your future will be limitless. We are all old and frail. As your father's good friend, we entrust this good task to you," the Imperial Physician said to Xu Qing.

The others either echoed or remained silent. Even birds in the same forest will fly away separately when disaster strikes.

If sacrificing Xu Qing can save everyone, they naturally won't object. After all, young people should be given more responsibility and a chance to prove themselves.

As for what to do if something goes wrong? If nothing goes wrong, would they really give such a cushy job to a young person?

Xu Qing looked at the imperial physician in front of him, who was pretending to be doing this for his own good, and wanted nothing more than to punch his old face. To be able to talk about risking one's life with such righteous indignation, he truly deserved to have been the imperial physician for over twenty years.

Just as Xu Qing was thinking about how to refuse, a ball of light suddenly appeared in his mind.

Then the handwriting appeared in my mind:

When Consort Hu fell ill, the physicians all avoided her like the plague. However, misfortune may be a blessing in disguise, and a blessing may be a harbinger of misfortune.

Everyone stared at Xu Qing, who was standing there dumbfounded, assuming he was scared out of his wits and completely unaware of the sudden change that had occurred to him.

After the ball of light in Xu Qing's mind flashed, three strange slips of paper flew out, each bearing writing:

[A moderately auspicious sign. You will be tasked with treating Consort Hu, resolving her worries, and relieving King Han's anxieties. You will receive a fourth-rank official position. With proper handling of the situation afterward, you will escape unscathed. Auspicious.]

[A moderately favorable outcome; feigning illness to avoid the situation, treating it like the plague; afterwards, the Imperial Hospital is punished, incurring resentment, and the victim is made a scapegoat, receiving thirty strokes of the cane and being expelled from the Han King's palace—an ominous sign.]

[A very bad omen. Having fled the Han royal palace overnight, you are now wanted by the King of Han, facing a great calamity and trapped in a predicament, your life hanging in the balance. Extremely unlucky.]

I'm looking for new books to add to my collection, read, and invest in.
