Chapter 54 The Chosen One
Several more hours passed, and it was midnight.

Wang Liang opened his half-closed eyes, exchanged a glance with Zhou Kun, who had deep dark circles under his eyes but couldn't sleep at all, and they got up together and quietly walked outside.

The village was very dark at night, and the dim moonlight was almost the only source of light. Fortunately, Wang Liang and Zhou Kun, as ghost tamers, were more adapted to the darkness than ordinary people.

"Where should we go first?" Zhou Kun asked in a low voice.

“To the east, Old Li’s house,” Wang Liang said.

Do you know where their home is to the east?

Wang Liang did not reply, but walked ahead to lead the way. His goal was clear, something he had figured out during the day.

Old Li's house is a single-story brick and tile house, the kind with several rooms side by side, and the doors of each room can be seen directly from outside the yard. It is surrounded by only a wooden fence.

Wang Liang and Zhou Kun arrived at Old Li's house like thieves, quietly climbed over the fence, and came to the door of the room inside the yard.

Outside the door of one of the rooms, Wang Liang could hear faint breathing sounds coming from inside; this was the couple's room.

So he and Zhou Kun quietly moved to the room next door.

Zhou Kun stepped forward and tried to push the wooden door gently, but it wouldn't open; the door was locked.

Even if the wooden door is locked, it can be kicked open with one foot, but that's obviously not possible now; it would be too noisy.

Zhou Kun gestured to Wang Liang, pointing to the door and then crossing his fingers to indicate that the door couldn't be opened. He then twirled his fingers a few times and poked at the door back and forth, asking Wang Liang if he knew how to pick the lock.

Watching Zhou Kun form hand seals, Wang Liang was speechless. This square-faced guy's image in his eyes was almost completely shattered.

Wang Liang bypassed Zhou Kun and arrived at the window of the room. The window was tightly closed, and the curtains inside were drawn, almost completely blocking out the interior. Only a small gap in the curtain was left, through which one could barely see the general layout of the room.

It was too much trouble to look at it like that, so Wang Liang took out a one-inch photo from his pocket and slipped it into the room through the gap under the window.

Zhou Kun glanced at Wang Liang's behavior with suspicion, then came over and painstakingly observed the interior of the room through the exposed curtain gap.

But soon, his eyes widened and a look of surprise appeared on his face.

The photo that Wang Liang had just thrown into the room through the bottom crack of the window was now undergoing a strange change.

A hand with pale skin and unidentified black lines stretched out from the tiny one-inch photo, grabbing the ground—it was the hand of a ghost!

Immediately afterwards, a white-clad female ghost with disheveled black hair, her face obscured, twisted and crawled out of the photo, radiating a chilling aura. She stood up, head bowed, and stood silently in the room.

Looking at the situation inside the room, Zhou Kun swallowed hard and shifted his gaze to Wang Liang beside him. Releasing a vengeful ghost through a photograph—was this his supernatural ability?
Is it appropriate to use the power of a vengeful spirit just to check what's inside? Kicking the door down would have been much better.
Zhou Kun suddenly remembered something and quickly took out the one-inch photo that Wang Liang had given him that afternoon from his pants pocket.

Looking at the expressionless portrait of Wang Liang in the photo, Zhou Kun hesitated, suddenly feeling a strong urge to keep it with him.
Beside him, Wang Liang had already transmitted part of his consciousness to the medium along the strange gray lines in his field of vision, completely taking control of the derivative Sadako he had summoned.

Inside the room, Sadako shuddered, then looked up and surveyed her surroundings.

But nothing special was found; the surrounding furniture was very ordinary, so ordinary that it was hard to tell that this was a girl's room.

Moreover, the place looked like it hadn't been lived in for a long time, with a layer of dust on the floor, blankets, and tables.

But this family's daughter is about to pass away, and she was still alive and needed food and shelter just six days ago. However, this place clearly looks like it hasn't been inhabited for a long time. So where did she live before?
Or perhaps we've come to the wrong place? This isn't Old Li's house?
It shouldn't be. The couple's unusual behavior was quite obvious, and the possibility of them having mistaken the couple for someone else is extremely small.

Wang Liang led Sadako to the only desk in the room, pulled open the bottom drawer, and wanted to see if there was anything special hidden inside. Inside the drawer was only an old book with a brown cover, covered in a layer of dust, clearly unused for a long time.

Sadako opened the book, or rather, the notebook.

However, there is almost nothing recorded inside; it is mostly blank except for a single sentence on the first page.

I've been chosen.

Turning to the second page, you can see tear marks in the seam between the first and second pages. There are a few more pages in between, but they have been torn out.

However, the person who wrote this notebook seemed to have used heavy strokes when writing those pages, leading to the theory that Sadako could see in the dark.

Wang Liang can see from the perspective of the derivative Sadako that the blank second page now has some pen marks left on it due to the force applied, which are the contents of the torn page.

It's not very clear, but you can make out the general content: a lot of repetition.
Why? Why! Why?!

Wang Liang controlled the derivative Sadako to put the notebook back in the drawer and close it again.

After looking around again and finding nothing else of value, Sadako turned to ashes and disappeared from the room.

Wang Liang took out another photo and slipped it through the crack in the window.

Sadako has marked this suspicious location.

Wang Liang gave Zhou Kun a look and then led him away from Old Li's house.

After getting some distance away, Zhou Kun asked in a low voice:

"How about it?"

All I know is that the room has been uninhabited for a long time, and that the girl was apparently chosen to become something.

"This"

Zhou Kun looked troubled; there was far too little information, and he wasn't very good at solving puzzles like this.

As Wang Liang walked, he pondered to himself. Based on this information and some experience gained from past movies, he made bold speculations. In fact, he already had some initial suspicions about what might have happened in this village. All he needed to do next was to verify them.

Since he's already here, and has nothing better to do, he might as well spend some time figuring things out. This might help him predict the exact location of the movie ghost's arrival in the village and then imprison it as soon as the appointed time arrives.

The cemetery in the north where the seventh-day memorial service was held may not necessarily be the place of descent, but it is more likely. However, there are other possible locations for descent.

If he finds the cemetery empty, he can then head to other places in time.

Wang Liang hadn't forgotten what the system had said before: the film ghosts were easiest to imprison at the very beginning of their descent.

The film ghosts that first descend upon the screen are not only incomplete, but also go through a period of gradual recovery. The earlier you come into contact with them and put them in captivity, the easier it is to fight against the supernatural forces.

If not imprisoned in time, the ghost from the movie will definitely leave its place of origin and go to other places to find the puzzle pieces, complete itself, and strengthen its supernatural power.

It will inevitably be a disaster, and it will certainly drag Wang Liang into it.
