Dimensional Invasion: I Can Fish for All Heavens

Chapter 129 The Tier 3 mutated ape was already prepared for death.

Chapter 129 The third-tier mutated ape was already prepared for death.

"Prepare for bombardment!"

"put!"

The mortar positions on the mountainside roared, and the shells exploded in the center of the beast horde, sending flames soaring into the sky; thermal imaging showed that dozens of mutated creatures were reduced to wreckage in this round of shelling.

"Keep suppressing fire!"

"Prepare to detonate the pre-set minefield!"

The captain wiped the dust off his face and coldly swept his gaze across the surging beast tide ahead.

Although the situation was serious, there was little worry on his face.

With ample ammunition and a solid defensive line, these mutated creatures, though ferocious, were not enough to break through their firepower. As long as they didn't make any basic mistakes that allowed the mutated creatures to breach their lines and avoid a surprise attack, they wouldn't even suffer any casualties.

At their current pace, they should be able to completely resolve the beast tide at Qingfeng Mountain in three hours at most.

And indeed, things turned out exactly as he had imagined.

For the first half hour, the battle was completely under control.

The overwhelming firepower tore the charging beast horde to shreds, mortars accurately bombarded the areas where the mutated creatures gathered, drones circled overhead, using machine guns to sweep away any stragglers, and the team members encouraged each other.

At this rate, they might be able to complete the mission ahead of schedule in less than three hours.

However, all these advantages were completely reversed the moment that third-tier mutant appeared.

"boom!"

The mountain suddenly shook violently, and a huge rock was thrown into the air and crashed heavily onto the artillery position; to everyone's horror, a giant ape, six meters tall, smashed through the rock wall and rushed out.

Its body was covered with bulging muscles, and its dark blue fur was covered with a thick layer of keratin, as if it were wearing a natural armor. Its head was ferocious and terrifying, with a protruding lower jaw and fangs as white as knives. Every swing of its thick arms brought up a dull wind pressure.

What's most unsettling is its eyes—pure ape pupils, pitch black and cold, exuding the ferocity of a wild beast, yet strangely carrying a hint of human-like brutality.

"Fire! Focus fire!"

With the captain's roar, all firepower instantly shifted, bullets sparked as they hit the fur, and shells exploded in the chest with blinding flashes of light. The mutated giant ape, however, only staggered slightly before letting out a deafening roar.

"boom!"

Its powerful hind legs suddenly exerted force, and the concrete bunker shattered into pieces upon impact; a team member was pierced through the chest by a sharp claw, and blood splattered on the giant ape's ferocious face.

The other man had just raised his weapon when he was torn in two.

"Retreat! Scatter—"

The captain's order came to an abrupt halt. The mutated giant ape grabbed the wreckage of the armored vehicle and swept it across, sending the three team members flying like rag dolls.

The drone was frantically unleashing its munitions, but it leaped up, grabbed the drone, and stuffed it, munitions and all, into its gaping maw.

In just a few minutes, the entire defensive line had been transformed into a scene of carnage; broken weapon parts mixed with fragments of internal organs covered the ground, and the giant ape was squatting on the wreckage of the command vehicle, slowly gnawing on flesh and blood that seemed to have come from nowhere.

It looked up at the county town below the mountain, its dark eyes gleaming with a bloodthirsty light.

Tian Shu Bureau, Qingshan County.

"Report! The first line of defense has fallen! The beast tide has broken through the blockade and is attacking the second line of defense!"

The correspondent's voice was hoarse with anxiety, and his fingers tapped rapidly on the keyboard.

Chen Mingyuan suddenly stood up, and the monitoring screen in front of him was flashing a glaring red alarm.

Has the Yunshan Tian Shu Bureau responded?

he asked immediately.

"Yunshan has received a request for assistance!"

The correspondent responded quickly.

"Three teams of superhumans are on their way and are expected to arrive in an hour!"

"We are requesting additional support."

Three squads of superhumans? What can that number accomplish?
They underestimated this beast tide.

Chen Mingyuan's gaze swept across the battle map, and the markers for the second line of defense were turning red one after another. He grabbed the communicator and his voice echoed throughout the branch office: "Attention all combat personnel, you must hold back the beast tide at the second line of defense."

"Repeat this, hold them off at all costs!"

When he put down the communicator, his knuckles were white from the force.

Can they hold out for an hour?
If they survive, are just three teams of superhumans really a match for that third-tier mutated creature?
Moreover, is there really only one tier-3 mutated creature?
Outside the window, faint sounds of explosions could be heard from the direction of Qingfeng Mountain, and the flames turned the night sky blood red.

Suddenly, Chen Mingyuan gritted his teeth, seemingly having made up his mind about something, and gave an order to everyone.

"All non-combat personnel, proceed to the shelter immediately."

"Married people and those with children, evacuate immediately."

"Those whose parents are still alive, evacuate immediately."

"Those with fiancées or plans to get married, retreat immediately."

"I will take full responsibility."

His heart pounded violently in his chest, not from fear, but from a kind of intense, almost premonitory unease; the feeling was so strong that it seemed to be telling him that even if reinforcements arrived, they might not be able to stop the beast tide.

If their deaths here could ensure the safety of the people, then Chen Mingyuan would be willing to give up his life; but if even sacrifice couldn't stop it, then it would be better to let more people live.

"Director!"

Everyone in the operations room stared at him in shock.

Even if the beast tide had broken through the defenses and entered the city, Chen Mingyuan, who said these words, would still be severely punished if reported.

If the beast tide were quelled within Qingfeng Mountain, he would be punished even more severely.

"Excuting an order."

"I will take full responsibility."

Chen Mingyuan did not explain, but simply repeated.

The air froze for a few seconds.

"Director, have you forgotten that the soldiers who are fighting desperately on the second line of defense are also someone's son, husband, or boyfriend, just like us?"

"They are still fighting, how can we possibly retreat?"

A young member, his face still showing some naiveté from just entering society, spoke earnestly.

"Yes, Director, we didn't join the Tian Shu Bureau just for the benefits."

"If my parents knew I was running away at a time like this, they would break my legs."

The young man in charge of the files grinned.

Although the members of the Tian Shu Bureau around them did not speak, they shared the same attitude.

On Qingfeng Mountain, the soldiers of the Tian Shu Bureau stationed there were still fighting against the mutated creatures. How could they possibly retreat?

Since their families have already entered the shelter, they have no worries. Even if they die, the country will take good care of them.

They understood Chen Mingyuan's idea: he wanted more people to survive.

Even those from the Celestial Pivot Bureau have the right to live, rather than having to die in the war.

But they can't do that.

From the very first day they joined the Tian Shu Bureau, they had considered that they would one day die; perhaps that day came sooner than expected, but they had already made preparations.

The previously somber atmosphere suddenly became heated.

Some people began to quietly check their sidearms, some took out a box of their treasured cigarettes and distributed them to their colleagues, and some gently kissed the family photos on their phone screensavers before locking them in their drawers.

Chen Mingyuan's eyes welled up with tears. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end, he said nothing and just laughed and cursed.

"A bunch of brats."
