Chapter 85 Wilderness and Traps?
Chapter 85 Wilderness and Traps? (Two chapters combined)
"In short, a mad scientist?"
Magneto summarized in a cold tone, his eyes gleaming with murderous intent.
It seems that no matter where this ominous man hides, he will not escape the revenge and pursuit of the mutant known as the most terrifying mutant on Earth.
"Yes."
Russell nodded.
Mr. Ominous believes that mutants should not evolve randomly, but should be guided by a "higher intelligence," which is himself.
In the comics, he has carried out several horrific massacres and attacks in order to better carry out 'survival of the fittest' and eliminate carriers of 'inferior genes' from the mutant population.
He also established a mutant regime, becoming the ruler of mutants and turning mutants and humans from all over the world into subjects for his experiments at will.
“I think that once we establish a nation in Kenosha, the weak mutants will be protected, which doesn’t align with his ‘plan’?”
Russell said coldly.
"Or perhaps he thinks the idea of mutants establishing a nation is good, but he wants to replace the person in charge and become the ruler of the mutant nation himself?"
Based on Mr. Ominous's style of doing things, either is possible.
As for why, of the two governors of Genosha, only Magneto was assassinated, while he was not.
It's not hard to figure out.
He once displayed a formidable physique, making it unrealistic to simply send someone to assassinate him. Magneto's physical abilities, however, are only slightly stronger than those of an ordinary person.
"Who does he think he is!"
Magneto scoffed.
Regardless of the possibility, is it that, driven by a fanatical and insane belief, they decide to destroy the peaceful future of mutants?
Whether it's the desire to assassinate him and take his place, it greatly ignites the rage of this most dangerous mutant on Earth.
"I will expose him and make him realize just how serious his mistake was!"
Magneto is preparing to order the Brotherhood of Mutants to be spread across the globe to find this guy.
"Unless this ominous man can modify matter at will like you, he must need a lot of high-precision equipment and human materials to conduct biological experiments."
If such a person keeps a low profile, perhaps no one will notice, but once he reveals himself, he is like a giant whale that has surfaced, and it is no longer easy for him to hide.
“Father, it’s not actually necessary. The location of that experimental base is already in the clone’s brain.” Wanda asked in surprise, not knowing what she had seen in the brain of the Son of the Ominous.
"Where is he?"
Magneto pressed on, eager to expose the madman who had made him so miserable.
"Hmm? He knows us so well, doesn't he know Wanda has telepathic abilities?"
Russell became suspicious.
Mr. Ominous is a master strategist. He had a pretty good grasp of the internal workings of the Brotherhood of Mutants and almost succeeded in assassinating Magneto. Yet, he made a mistake in such a small area.
Are they so confident that they have nothing to fear, and are not afraid of Magneto coming to their door?
"That's a strange place."
Is this memory truly real? There was supposedly an ancient continent in Antarctica, where dinosaurs even lived.
Ancient scenes flashed through Wanda's mind, and she couldn't help but be amazed as she shared her memories with the two of them.
Both Russell and his companion witnessed the Clone Killer's journey from there to Kenosha, starting from an ancient prehistoric jungle and leaving Antarctica.
That prehistoric region was home to all sorts of dinosaurs: the enormous Triceratops, the ferocious Tyrannosaurus Rex, and even pterosaurs soaring through the sky...
"A wild and untamed land?"
Russell recognized the place.
The Wilderness, nestled within a ring of volcanic mountains on the frigid Antarctic continent, is a unique region in itself. The heat from the volcanoes made it an ideal habitat for creatures from the dinosaur era.
In addition, the mountains naturally isolate the entire area from the outside world.
Even though the outside world had already caused tremendous changes to species on Earth due to a meteorite impact at the end of the Cretaceous period 6500 million years ago, the wilderness still miraculously preserved many kinds of plants and animals on Earth, allowing them to thrive.
"Interesting, there is such a magical place."
It's practically a paradise for biologists, and its seclusion is probably unmatched by many places in the world.
Magneto clicked his tongue in amazement. Now that he had found that clueless guy who dared to challenge him, he prepared to have the Brotherhood assemble and kill him immediately.
"John the Fireman will love this place, where he can set fires wherever he wants."
Furthermore, I want an avalanche to destroy this place forever…
Magneto seemed unable to rest until he could immediately avenge the humiliation of being nearly assassinated. He made a swift and decisive move, preparing to set off with his men, which was very much in line with Magneto's usual arrogant style.
“Wait a minute!
This is probably a trap.
Russell raised his hand to stop him.
There seems to be something slightly off about this matter.
"A trap? What trap?"
Magneto frowned slightly and followed this line of thought.
The word "trap" originally came from the ancient cunning hunters who used mechanisms or terrain to capture their prey, but what trap can ensnare us?
Indeed, both of them are beings who can alter the terrain and sink an island with a wave of their hand.
"If he thinks he can challenge us, leaving a challenge letter in the memory of this pathetic clone's brain, if we don't go, he might think we're afraid of him!"
Magneto was unaware that Russell had realized this wild and untamed place was far from simple.
For example, Mr. Ominous once invented a large device by studying the special energy field of the Wildlands, which can suppress the mutant life energy of all mutants who enter the Wildlands.
Anyone who was nearly assassinated after being transformed into their daughter would find it difficult to suppress their anger. If Magneto and the others were to rush over like this and lose their powers unexpectedly, I'm afraid...
We can only let Mr. Ominous Sign do as he pleases.
That would truly mean delivering vegetables to your door.
"How cunning!"
Russell was pretty much certain that this was Mr. Ominous's despicable scheme.
If the assassination fails, there are still a series of plans.
"We can't be careless either..."
He gave examples, mentioning sentries and restraint collars.
No matter how amazing their abilities are, once they put on the suppression collar, they will turn back into ordinary people. Similarly, if there are too many Sentinels, they will also be in danger.
Magneto, who was in a fit of rage, also calmed down.
“We definitely have to retaliate for this. Since he has already told us the location of his stronghold, we will go and kill him. But before we make a move, we will scout it out first.”
Russell Road.
"Just do as you say!"
Magneto made the decision.
"Don't have too many people, so as not to alert the other side."
Russell proposed leaving most of the manpower to guard the country, while selecting a few elite mutants to prepare for departure.
The change of country and flag in Kenosha had already attracted worldwide attention, but despite the news being kept under wraps, people outside were still unaware of what had happened in Kenosha.
But as everyone knows, Genoa fell into the hands of mutants.
"We still need to be careful to prevent someone from breaking into our house."
It's possible that Russell didn't really want Magneto to go with them, preferring to take only Wanda and Juggernaut. He figured he himself would be unaffected by the Wildlands.
Wanda can hardly be considered a simple mutant, and by the same token, Juggernaut's power also comes from the Crimson Demon.
Magneto, however, is certainly different.
But seeing Magneto in this state, it's unlikely that he can be persuaded otherwise. He was almost stabbed to death by someone impersonating his daughter, and he'll definitely go and seek revenge.
It doesn't matter.
"Just go into the wilderness and destroy that device."
After thinking it over, Russell and his group went to Antarctica.
Crossing thousands of miles, Magneto piloted a steel plate half a mile in diameter, which was formed by kneading together the pieces, and took everyone to arrive above the Antarctic wilderness in less than an hour.
Magneto, considering the lack of steel in the ancient lands, even brought his own weapons.
The group broke through the thick clouds that blocked satellite detection.
In this wild land, a prehistoric rainforest shrouded in steam, giant ferns reach for the sky, waterfalls cascade from icy cliffs into lava lakes, and a perpetual rainbow mist rises from the confluence of hot and cold.
Velociraptors sprinted through the jungle, while pterosaur shadows swept across the amber sky.
In the lake, plesiosaurs and mosasaurs fought for territory, and the surface of the water shimmered with the light of prehistoric fish scales...
"What a beautiful place..."
As the group ventured deeper into the wilderness, Magneto stood on the steel plate, about to remark that it would be a real shame to destroy such a place.
hum!
Suddenly, a strange field swept across the entire wilderness. Magneto felt as if a boulder had been placed on his chest, and the massive steel plate lost its power, tilting and plummeting downwards.
"What's going on? I... I can't use my abilities!"
Magneto was horrified.
The other members of the Mutant Brotherhood screamed and fell to the ground.
"How is this going?!"
In a flash, Russell, who had anticipated this, remained calm and tried to switch to the Magneto template.
I wonder if the mutant ability template copied by the system is within the range that Mr. Ominous's mutant energy suppression device can suppress?
It doesn't matter if it can't be used.
"If that doesn't work, use X-ray vision to search inland and try to destroy the device remotely with laser vision!"
He stood with his hands behind his back, gazing into the depths of the desolate land, already prepared for both possibilities.
The next second, Russell's lips curled up slightly.
A powerful magnetic field emanated from his body.
Sure enough, even with the mutant template, Mr. Ominous was completely unaffected.
……
In the humid air, Mr. Ominous stood before the arched observation window of the laboratory. His pale face was made ghostly by the red light of the lava lake below, and the scarlet diamond-shaped mark flickered in the shadows like an evil star that would never be extinguished.
"They're coming."
The Red Queen—a replica of Jean Grey, Madeline Player—walked slowly to his side.
She wore a dark red dress, and a cold smile, just like an ominous sign, graced her lips.
Through the same telepathic observation, they saw things happening dozens of miles away.
"Looks like your cloning attempt failed after all?"
The Red Queen raised an eyebrow, her tone tinged with a hint of mockery.
Mr. Ominous chuckled softly.
“Failure? No, my dear Madeline, it was just… a seduction. In fact, I would have preferred him to fail.”
He turned his head, and in his red eyes was reflected the huge mechanical device in the center of the laboratory—a metal structure shaped like a spire, its surface covered with densely packed circuits, and a slowly rotating energy core suspended at the top.
Just as Magneto and his men flew a meter into the vast wilderness, Mr. Ominous knew.
Once he had flown deep enough, he immediately activated the "mutant energy suppression tower" that he had painstakingly researched.
"Magneto is nothing new. The Infinite Man is our real threat. He is mysterious and unpredictable, decisive and ruthless, and we don't know how many powerful abilities he has."
Mr. Ominous whispered, his voice like a venomous snake gliding across ice, “Anger makes Magneto lose his mind, and angry people… are always more likely to lead their companions into a trap.”
Sure enough, he arrived with his partner, Infinite Man, and his daughter, Scarlet Witch.
The Red Queen narrowed her eyes, examining the device. She could sense the threat it contained—a near-malicious suppressive field targeting mutant genes.
If it weren't for the special belt around her waist sending signals that allowed the force field to bypass her.
Even she couldn't use her mutant abilities.
Nothing is more satisfying than things going exactly as you want them to.
Mr. Ominous's smile deepened. He walked to the machine and gently ran his fingertips across it, as if caressing a work of art.
A cruel pleasure flashed in his red eyes.
"The powers of Infinite Man and Magneto have been suppressed. Their immense power has... all become nothingness, just like an ordinary person who has suffered a high-altitude crash, helplessly falling into an ancient jungle full of dinosaurs."
"Let's go——"
The ominous man's high-collared cloak billowed behind him.
"I don't want those dinosaurs to get there first and enjoy the delicious meat before I can catch my carefully lured prey!"
"I have wanted the mutant genes of Infinity Man, Magneto, and Scarlet Witch for a long time. They will surely help me create a more perfect creation."
The Red Queen chuckled softly, her immense mental power lifting her body into the air as she followed the ominous Mr. Omen who was also floating away.
"You really are... insidious."
"I prefer to call it wisdom."
Mr. Ominous chuckled, as if this were the highest praise.
"From an ordinary person to now having some of the most powerful mutants on Earth groveling at my feet, I've always relied solely on my intellect."
He had the game in the bag.
Even in a real, head-on battle, Mr. Ominous was confident he could defeat his opponent.
The person next to him was a clone of Jean Grey, an Omega-level mutant, which he considered a near-perfect masterpiece.
Unlike Jean Grey, who had too much weakness and hesitation, completely wasting her amazing potential.
The Red Queen's memories and personality were shaped by him; she is ruthless, decisive, and her telepathic abilities far surpass those of herself and anyone he has ever secretly observed.
This includes Professor X, and also Jean Grey.
"Wait a minute..."
Mr. Ominous, along with the Red Queen and his army of mutants and clones of the Son of Ominous, which he had collected over the years, flew over the jungle.
Suddenly, he seemed to have another telepathic experience, as if he saw something unbelievable, and the confident expression on his face froze.
"This...this is impossible!"
"What happened? Could it be that those people were unlucky enough to fall into the mouth of a mosasaur?"
"So you can't enjoy the pleasure of victory?"
Seeing Mr. Ominous's expression darken, the Red Queen chuckled, curious about what had happened, and used her telepathic abilities to probe ahead.
