Chapter 800 Avengers Base

Most of the Spider-Man villains' technological equipment is actually stored in the Web Base. Since the Web Base doesn't have reliable engineers (Jonathan and Connors are both biologists), Peter Parker disassembles most of the equipment himself to see if it's usable.

For example, the terrifying shockwave was abandoned because it was very easy to overload due to its increasing energy output with each use, while Mysterio's helmet and Rhino's metal skin were too heavy for Peter to use in his equipment. Doctor Octopus's equipment, however, was one of the few things Peter could actually use, and he used it quite a bit since he put on the nanosuit.

The only problem is...

"Although there are some differences, you know what a scorpion's tail is, right? The artificial spinal cord—the patent for that thing belongs to Osborn Technologies."

Strictly speaking, the scorpion-like device is an artificial nervous system that replaces the function of the spine, while Doctor Octopus's technology uses existing neurons in the human body to control extra limbs. Although these two things are not the same, considering Osborn Technologies' past achievements—using a single-soldier glider-like anti-gravity system to beat up a vulture's wings, and threatening the other party with exorbitant litigation costs that would bankrupt Toms—it's worthwhile.

Peter felt it was better to explain things beforehand.

“…I’ll take care of the problems with Osborn. You get this thing out of here first. A perfect prosthetic created through an implant, not designed by Tony Stark…that sounds pretty good.”

Tony nodded with satisfaction, then let out a long sigh and began to think about his next move. Unlike Stark Industries, which was almost a century old, Osborn Technologies was only about twenty years old, very young, and had grown into a rising tech giant entirely thanks to Norman Osborn's ruthlessness, viciousness, and shrewdness.

It's worth noting that Norman was a scientist in his early years, but now he basically doesn't pursue scientific research anymore. He fully demonstrates to the entire United States how terrifying it is when a genius uses all his intelligence for business. It's practically J.P. Morgan reincarnated, Rockefeller reborn, making one feel as if they've returned to the late 19th century, to the era of those monopolistic monsters.

Fortunately, this era is no longer the era of truly unbridled growth.

Fortunately, Tony has a trump card: Peter Parker. If he just mentions that this is a research project led by Peter Parker, even Norman Osborn would have to back down!

"You just focus on inventing; Stark will handle the patent issues. Ahem, okay, this is your room. Like I told you, it's a total of 250 square meters, a 150-square-meter duplex apartment on each floor. Um, I've designed different room styles for everyone. Do you think that's appropriate?"

Peter's decorating style looks very much like... Tony's own. If Tony hadn't told him, Peter would have thought he was in Tony's room. There were Avengers posters on the walls, dartboards, and some science fiction movie elements. One wall was a display case of suits—Peter did have one of these at the Spider-Web base, which contained all of his old suits except for the nanotech suit.

Many of the pieces of furniture looked like decorative items made from disassembled car fronts or similar parts. Peter didn't understand this part at all: "This thing... uh, doesn't seem to suit me."

"Oh, of course... this used to be in my room. Hmm... do young people these days not like this kind of heavy, mechanical stuff?"

So you really did bring things from your own room over," Peter said, shaking his head with a wry smile. "Let's leave this behind, and the suit rack too. It's fine in the base, but it feels a bit strange in the room." "Hmm, I don't find it strange at all. I once had over forty mechs at home."

Tony simply said okay and continued to show Peter around: "That's the training ground. The captain absolutely loves it. I've always wanted to replicate a danger room, but the captain said that it makes people relax their vigilance against real combat. It's too realistic, so we need to separate training from combat."

Tony couldn't understand the captain's thinking, but considering that Old Man Harden was the most authoritative figure in the entire Avengers, Tony still chose to respect him. After the two went inside, Tony activated the testing program, and all the training equipment suddenly popped out from the ceiling and walls of the basement, filling the space to the brim.

"This looks a bit like... the defense system of the old Avengers Tower?"

"Pretty much, but all non-lethal firepower." Tony shrugged. "That's why I've always felt this stuff has limited effectiveness and is unlikely to be useful for training. It's probably more suitable for future Avengers Academy students. Oh, and the Avengers Academy is already under construction, right next door."

Next is the research center. Throughout the entire Avengers base, the tallest and largest building is neither the main activity center nor the hangar, but the research center. From engineering to bioengineering, from chemistry to experimental physics, from the microscopic quantum realm to celestial energy rays, every laboratory is equipped with top-notch features.

“I referenced Reed Richards’ Baxter Building and modified it. Strictly speaking, what I wanted was to be more advanced than their labs. The Avengers’ labs are the best.”

Peter really wanted to complain about how bad students have too many stationery items, but then he thought better of it. Faced with Tony's confidence, he figured that after saying that, he might have to go to the training room with Tony for a practice session.

If we manage to beat Tony down, things will get even more complicated.

“Okay, I think I get it. By the way, what’s that thing over there?” Peter said, pointing to something in the Avengers base. It was clearly a man-made object, looking like a large snow globe or something similar. Inside was a huge U-shaped building, placed in the very center of the central garden of the Avengers base, in a small pond.

It looks like some kind of landscape.

"Oh, that one? That's the mansion prison. When Avengers Tower exploded, it almost killed those bastards."

Tony said with a regretful look, "The Avengers have to pay attention to their public image. Although many of these criminals have been sentenced to death, they can't die before their execution, so we have to lock them up here. It's not bad to keep them here as a snow globe. At least we can see the supervillains we've captured as soon as we go out, which is very fulfilling."
