Chapter 761 Mephisto's Arrival
Chapter 761 Mephisto's Arrival
While Peter was still learning how to use his powers in the Spider Kingdom, a small incident occurred in faraway Hell.
In short, the souls of those possessed by the Dark Consortium were sent to Mephisto according to the original contract. Although the Dark Consortium members who hadn't yet possessed anyone became much more obedient after the descent of Sithon, the contract had already been established, and demons find it difficult to go against their nature, so they would still look for opportunities to possess others.
On the other hand, Mephisto already had enough souls; 666 was just right.
"Thank you all very much for your explanations. I have gained a deeper understanding of human social systems—at least the system in your country."
Mephisto sat on the throne of Hell, looking at the souls before him. Without exception, they were all elites of human society, and most of them had intricate connections with Roxon Energy Corporation. They were an important part of Mephisto's plan.
As Strange said, Mephisto's plot was nothing more than a grand performance of his devilish nature, and his goal had already been achieved at the very beginning of this grand performance.
These souls were "invited" to hell.
"In other words, given your investments in Rockxon Energy, if Stark Industries' technology experiences some...unexpected event, then without a doubt, Stark Industries' stock will plummet, while Rockxon's stock will surge, is that right?"
The souls of these people hurriedly answered "yes," even though the devil before them had not yet harmed them and had even assured them that he would send them back once he had learned what he wanted to know. However, these people had witnessed the horrors of hell, where countless sinful souls, especially those of capitalists like themselves, were sent directly to hell to suffer torment.
Demons feed on desire and sin; who could be more greedy or wicked than them?
"That sounds really good. I hope that one day I can help you all."
The souls immediately agreed, and a chorus of praise erupted, with phrases like "As long as Lord Mephisto takes action, Stark will be utterly terrified." Mephisto simply chuckled, "Then it's settled, everyone. Oh, and by the way, if I were to come to your world, would it be convenient for me to visit your homes?"
What else could this group say? Of course, they cheered in unison, each vying to say, "We will definitely request hospitality" or "We look forward to your visit."
In fact, Mephisto could have said that much earlier, but there simply weren't enough souls available before.
“Then…” Mephisto took out a scroll made of human skin, on which was written only a single line: The souls of these people will return to their original bodies.
"I am very satisfied with your attitude. Please go home now."
Mephisto smiled and took out a pen. The people rushed to look at the contract, and were overjoyed to see that it contained no word games. They all signed it. Mephisto waited quietly for them to finish this step, then put the scroll away and clapped his hands in satisfaction.
"Velasco was thinking from beginning to end about returning to Universe 616 by ritual and brute force, but in reality, it didn't need to be that complicated."
Mephisto muttered to himself as he sat down on his throne.
"The local residents invited me to their homes."
This is the contract that was just signed. When the guest expressed his desire to go to the host's house, the host agreed. Thus, the barriers of reality failed to deter Mephisto. He was invited, and by a considerable number of people who could have a significant impact on Earth, to go to Earth 616.
"The local residents have expressed their desire to cooperate with me."
They agreed with Mephisto's view that they would make a fortune if Stark Industries ran into trouble, and believed that Mephisto could do just that.
Since that's the case, why shouldn't I fulfill this contract?
Mephisto laughed. The devil's pact never required a written agreement; their conversation was sufficient. Sulfur began to boil, and hellfire began to burn on Mephisto's body. The Lord of Hell smiled and departed from Hell.
On Earth 616, the first to discover the anomaly was Magik. A large number of members of the Dark Consortium were directly expelled back to the frontier of Hell, many of whom Magik had not yet found. Iliana immediately interrupted her training at Xavier's Academy of Geniuses and went directly to the Sanctum Sanctorum from the Danger Room through a portal. This time, because there were no demons causing trouble, she successfully arrived there. Strange sensed the movement and immediately floated over.
"You're rarely in such a hurry, Mystery. What happened?"
"The people from the Dark Corporation have been banished back to the frontier of hell, but I haven't had a chance to interrogate them about what happened—and there are too many of them, more than we expected."
“They’re very well disguised. The devil is disguised as a capitalist, and he’s almost unrecognizable…” Strange sensed the activity in the Sanctum Sanctorum: “The dozens of people we’ve captured who were possessed by the Dark Corporation have also shown abnormalities. Their souls seem to be… returning?”
Just as Strange was still confused, another portal opened. This portal was made of hellfire, and on the other side of the portal, Johnny Blaze collapsed in agony on the floor of the Sanctum Sanctorum.
"Mephisto...Mephisto is here..."
Before Strange could even register the shock, the massive explosion triggered a small earthquake. Strange and Illana rushed outside to look in the direction of the explosion; it was Avengers Tower, the entire building engulfed in flames from the middle down.
Iliana couldn't comprehend what was happening: "What...what's going on? Did the plane crash into Avengers Tower?"
Strange immediately cast a spell, opening the Eye of Agamotto on his chest. He then took a deep breath and looked at the burning Avengers Tower: "Mephisto, he changed reality."
"What reality has changed?"
Meanwhile, at Avengers Tower.
At the same moment the explosion occurred, Tony Stark, who was stationed at Avengers Tower that day, immediately lost consciousness. The arc reactor in his chest suddenly became ineffective, and it took several seconds for it to regain power.
When he woke up, Avengers Tower was already burning.
"What's going on, Jarvis? Avengers Tower has been attacked?"
[According to calculations, the explosion occurred in the arc-shaped reactor in the middle of the building, sir.]
"That's impossible, I calculated it all myself..."
Your calculations have been recalculated, and 17 errors have been found.
[Warning: The curved reactor at the base of Avengers Tower is about to overload.]
[Warning: Stark Industries has experienced varying degrees of malfunctions at 134 arc reactors installed across the United States.]
