Chapter 62 Settlement Time
At eight o'clock in the morning, the hustle and bustle of Manhattan took over the streets again.

The Mysterio riot, lasting only an hour, came suddenly and went just as quickly. Shattered shop windows glittered in the sunlight, and sirens still echoed in the distance, but the city had already returned to its usual rhythm. The brief chaos claimed no lives; only a few overturned cars and charred billboards testified to what had happened. Mysterio's purpose was clear—he didn't want destruction, but provocation. And now, he had achieved his goal, falling at the hands of superheroes and making a pathetic exit.

On the rooftop of the Osborne Building, Cindy Moon looked out over the Manhattan morning, brushed a stray strand of hair from her forehead, and was about to leave when she heard Peter Parker's voice.

“I don’t recommend you leave on your webs. The Mysterio affair has just ended, and all the media are watching this city like sharks smelling blood. If you fly away on your webs now, tomorrow’s Daily Horn might headline: ‘Female Spider-Man Appears in New York!’ or worse, ‘Spider-Man’s Real Identity is a Girl?’”

Cindy turned around, caught the can of coffee that was tossed to her, and saw Spider-Man hanging upside down under the metal support of the rooftop garden, holding a can of coffee that had just been opened, and lifting his mask to drink it.

"I took two cans of coffee from the vending machine in the Osborne Building. You don't mind, do you?"

"fine."

Cindy snapped open the tab on her coffee, looked at Peter, and abruptly asked, "Can you drink coffee while hanging upside down?"

"What? You can't?"

After saying that, they both laughed.

After a moment of silence, Cindy suddenly asked a question.

How have you managed to persevere until now?

"You mean...this battle suit?"

Peter asked back uncertainly, and Cindy nodded.

“The Daily Bugle is attacking you every day, and people online are pointing fingers at you. I’ve seen the video of your fight with the shrew, and many people say that if you had completely defeated him the first time, there wouldn’t have been so much trouble later.” She paused. “Most of the voices you see aren’t supportive. Why do you continue?”

After thinking for a while, Peter gave an answer that was the truth.

"I have never felt happy being Spider-Man."

"?"

"What I mean is, I've never felt like I was the chosen one or anything special because of my spider powers. The reason I became Spider-Man was because of fear. I was afraid for a long time after I gained my powers."

What I fear is not the ability itself, but my own choices.

What would the world be like if he hadn't become Spider-Man? Spider-Man is connected to so many plot points in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even playing a crucial role. What if this universe could have had a Spider-Man, but didn't…

So Peter Parker has been playing Spider-Man all along.

"I've been playing an ideal Spider-Man, the Spider-Man of my mind. I think I did a pretty good job, but without a doubt, I can't say I'm very happy."

Peter communicated this point simply and directly.

"But gradually, my attitude changed. Thrill wanted to show other people the real me. Cal King told me what would happen if other people had this ability. And Mysterio, if I always played Spider-Man and never took off my mask in front of him, I might never be able to defeat him. I had to tell myself, I am Spider-Man."

These people told him why his choice was right, and why becoming Spider-Man was the right thing to do.

He jumped down from the ceiling, walked over to Cindy, and leaned against the railing, looking out at Manhattan. "Did I talk too much?"

Cindy gave an irrelevant answer.

"I am listening."

“I’m starting to think more and more that this kind of life actually suits me quite well. Honestly, the fun part of being Spider-Man is never about putting on the suit and fighting all sorts of weird villains. It’s about when you’re swinging around the city, when nobody’s in any trouble, when you feel like New York doesn’t need you.”

"That was the happiest time of my life."

Cindy finished the can of coffee, then jumped onto the railing and opened her arms.

"I am going home."

"I just said..."

“I know.” Cindy nodded, turned to face Peter, and then squatted down. “There’s one more thing. I’ll be transferring to your school next week, with the same schedule as you.”

"Oh ah?"

"Spiderweb" fell backward, landing on the Osborn Tower. Peter shrugged helplessly; it seemed there was no way to avoid the daily announcements of two Spider-Men. But it didn't matter. He smiled, leaped, and began swinging familiarly through the city.

But the good news doesn't stop there.

"Hey, Spider-Man, I've got some good news for you."

Tony Stark's voice rang in his ears. Iron Man told him something: "Are you free tomorrow? We're having a press conference at Avengers Tower about King T'Challa of Wakanda joining the Avengers. Maybe you could attend."

"Should I wear a suit, Mr. Stark?"

"No, no, no, that's not necessary. I just think we need to briefly introduce our, you know, security guards and such, during the press conference?"

After a moment of silence, Tony Stark finally spoke.

“We know how you defeated Mysterio. Welcome to the Avengers, kid. If you’d like, come to Avengers Tower tomorrow morning.”

“I will, Mr. Stark.”

Today really is a good day, isn't it?

The familiar feeling of weightlessness washed over him, and Peter skillfully operated the web-shooter, making the Manhattan sky his stage once again.

"Is he still alive?"

After Spider-Man and Mysterio's battle at Osborn Tech ended, and the Avengers notified the Disaster Management Agency to clean up the mess, a man, whose fate was unknown and who was unconscious, was carried out of Osborn Tower by paramedics. In the ambulance, the nurse looked at the doctor, who gave him a brief examination and then shook his head.

"He's not in immediate danger, but the bullet pierced his spine and could cause lifelong paralysis. Have you figured out his identity?"

McDonald Gagan, still unconscious, frowned, seemingly unable to forget the bullet.
