Chapter 47 The Spider Swarm is Gone
Chapter 47 The Spider Swarm is Gone
Cal King spent a whole night devouring over a dozen homeless people, feeling his power constantly increasing, even to the point where Spider-Man couldn't match him during the day. So he decided to carry out his plan: first, eat all of Peter Parker's friends at school, then disguise himself as them to approach Parker.
Who would have thought that the first target would fail? Byd Parker seemed to have known his plan all along. The moment Gwen stepped out of the subway station, he took her away. Not only that, but the meticulously woven, flawless human skin was like a Halloween mask in Parker's eyes, which was punctured with a single punch.
That wouldn't have been so bad, but who could have imagined that Parker would exude such an alluring scent today—sweet, cloying, and hot, like rotten honey mixed with blood—causing his spider swarm to completely lose control. Not only those lurking inside him, but even the spiders hidden in the sewers and wall cracks all surged out like madmen, converging into a black torrent, then coalescing into a humanoid monster over three meters tall, swinging its webs like Spider-Man.
"I'm faster than you!"
Cal King laughed wildly in the wind. He caught up with Spider-Man faster than Spider-Man himself, stuck Spider-Man's back with his webs, pulled him in front of him, raised his fist, and punched Spider-Man on the head. The immense force sent Spider-Man flying.
I am stronger than you!
Carl didn't let Spider-Man, who had been sent flying by a single punch, get away. Instead, he quickly plummeted down, landing on top of Spider-Man and unleashing a barrage of punches until Spider-Man slammed to the ground. Cars on the street sirens blared, and pedestrians screamed and scattered in panic. Countless spiders formed simple facial features on the giant humanoid face.
“I’m smarter than you! I have the wisdom of a chameleon! I know that the Punisher is waiting for me in the trap! But you won’t have that chance!”
He watched as Spider-Man's goggles shrank.
"I originally thought you were just taking some steroids, Carl, I didn't expect you to be taking performance-enhancing drugs too."
"I'll tear your mouth apart, Paa ...
The web-shooter released an electric current, giving the spider swarm an electrotherapy treatment. However, the pain only lasted for a moment. The remaining large number of spiders devoured the corpses of their own kind, producing new spiders. More importantly, a considerable number of spiders had already appeared on Spider-Man's body.
It's like having a delicious meal right in front of you.
But just then, something flew over. It was a small bottle that Spider-Man threw out. The liquid inside splashed out and stuck to the spider swarm. In an instant, the spiders that had climbed onto Spider-Man began to escape from Kal-King's control. Kal-King could even feel himself being eaten by his own spider swarm.
"And you actually think chameleons are smart? Carl, I really can't believe how bad your math homework is. No wonder I've never seen you in class."
Spider-Man landed on a telephone pole with a backflip and began checking his web-shooters. At the same time, a rocket whistled through the air and hit the chaotic spider swarm directly. The violent explosion nearly destroyed the swarm. The Punisher appeared, stopped his motorcycle, and threw several Molotov cocktails at the burning spider swarm.
"Seriously? A rocket launcher in Manhattan?"
"Simple and effective, something you rarely see even in Hell's Kitchen."
As the Punisher spoke, he watched the fire and threw out one incendiary bomb after another until he had emptied his stockpile. Meanwhile, Spider-Man covered all the manhole covers in the surrounding sewers with his webs. Both of them waited for the fire to die down completely or for the spiders to emerge from it.
“You know, if this doesn’t work, you’ll have to…”
"Yes, I know."
Under the watchful eyes of the two, a giant ball rolled out, its entire exterior covered in charred spiders. Upon witnessing this, the Punisher immediately left to prepare for his second plan, while Spider-Man sighed and sprayed himself with his third bottle of pheromones. This stuff was effective, but its effects didn't last long.
Cracked open from the massive charred shell, the dried-out spider swarm could only coalesce into a pitiful little thing about 1.5 meters tall, but its explosive power remained unchanged. Peter fired a web at it, and this time, the swarm automatically separated into countless spiders to avoid being wiped out by the high-voltage electricity. Seeing this, Peter immediately fired a web in the other direction, sticking to the fire hydrant. However, immediately, a spider that pounced on it bit through the web.
At this moment, Kal-King realized one thing: this was Spider-Man hunting him down. To eliminate Spider-Man, he only needed to do one thing: never let Spider-Man do what he wanted. His spider swarm crawled all over Spider-Man's body, directly biting through the old-fashioned web shooters, before solidifying into a face and letting out a roar.
"Parker, you're dead today—"
"You look like you need help, little spider!"
A football slammed squarely into the head of Carl Kong, who glared angrily. He and Spider-Man then saw Eugene Thompson, who had somehow appeared. Upon seeing Thompson, Peter couldn't help but mutter, "Damn it!"
"I have help, you run!"
But you really look like you need help!
Peter stood up and started swatting the spiders off his body, but Thompson didn't run away. In fact, he seemed genuinely going to help Peter swat the spiders. Peter, quick-witted, shouted, "Thompson, is that you?!"
"Yes! Oh my god, you still remember me!" You're lucky you didn't cause any trouble!
"Can you drive?"
Watching his new suit being torn apart by the spider swarm, Peter knew the reinforced polymer fibers wouldn't last much longer. Yes, they had a backup plan, but it wasn't foolproof; there was no way to guarantee a 100% solution to Karl's problem.
So he really does need a little help.
Thompson was genuinely happy because he really would.
"Okay, find a car, ram the fire hydrant, and then leave quickly!"
As Peter spoke, he squeezed and crushed the spider on his body. Thompson found the nearest car, and luckily, the owner hadn't removed the key when he fled, and hadn't even had time to turn off the engine. Thompson got in, slammed on the accelerator, and crashed directly into a fire hydrant. The hydrant collapsed, and a jet of water shot into the sky.
Thanks to the New York government, there really was water in the fire hydrant.
Attracted by pheromones, Cal King couldn't deal with Thompson, who had already run off to watch the fight from a short distance away, but that didn't stop him from mocking Peter Parker: "Water? You think you can drown me?"
“I’ve never thought that way, Karl. But even elementary school students know one thing: water conducts electricity.”
The severed high-voltage cables fell around them, and a massive current instantly surged through the spider swarm and Spider-Man. Spider-Man stood up amidst the current and grabbed the high-voltage cables: "You may be faster and stronger than me by eating people, but I'm more durable than you, Carl."
"It's time to say goodbye, Carl."
"no no!"
Feeling their lives slipping away, the spiders, dying one after another in the electric current, barely managed to coalesce into a face, making a final plea to the enemy before them.
"You're a hero, Parker, you're Spider-Man! You can't kill me, you can't kill people! I can stay out of it, I can turn myself in, the Avengers will definitely put me in jail, Parker!"
As Cal King felt himself dwindling, he also felt an indescribable silence. The high-voltage current passed through both of their bodies, consuming their lives equally, until finally, even his face could not hold on any longer and collapsed.
Spider-Man threw the cable into the puddle, then walked out himself, enduring the electric current. He glanced at Thompson in the distance, a distance from which an ordinary person could not have heard his last conversation with Cal King.
“You did nothing wrong, child.”
“I feel… like I don’t feel anything at all, not the real feeling of killing someone,” Peter asked the Punisher. “Is that right?”
"That only proves that what you killed wasn't human, child. You eliminated a monster, and you did the right thing."
The Punisher patted him on the shoulder: "Change your clothes, then tell your friends it's all over, you smell like meat on a barbecue grill."
-
This happened half an hour later.
A group of unidentified NYPD officers blocked off the entire street. They removed the high-voltage cables, collected all the mutated spider corpses, and the man in charge responded to instructions from the other end of the phone.
"Yes, destroy them all? No, no problem, not a single spider will be left."
In a corner unnoticed by anyone, the corpse of a large spider exploded. The last surviving small spider quietly walked towards a small waterway in the distance, but a boot stepped on it and then gently lifted it up.
The person in charge who noticed the kick looked over and asked the "special advisor" who had come to handle the case.
"Is something wrong? Spider-Silk Agents?"
“No.” The Asian girl, who looked to be only a high school student, looked at the spider carcass on the ground and answered simply.
"All threats have been eliminated."
