I'm working on Marvel's Spider-Man in American comics.
Chapter 45 At Avengers Tower
Chapter 45 At Avengers Tower
Spider-Man led the Punisher to the bottom of Avengers Tower, then went to the main elevator and pressed the button for the top floor.
Since he was a guest, the Punisher didn't bring many weapons, only seven or eight guns and a dozen or so explosives when he arrived at Avengers Tower. However, Jarvis was obviously experienced and simply welcomed him calmly in the elevator.
"Hello, Mr. Spider-Man, Mr. Cassel, welcome to Avengers Tower."
“Avengers Tower, Stark’s toy. I never thought I’d end up here.”
The Punisher muttered something that seemed to be either self-deprecating or mocking Iron Man. Peter, wearing his mask, nodded: "Yeah, I heard this elevator hasn't been used in a long time. The last time it was used was by construction workers bringing building materials up..."
In fact, most of the Avengers use this elevator to go upstairs.
Peter shrugged: "I usually just swing straight to the roof, so I've only heard about it."
The Punisher glanced at Spider-Man, who crossed his arms and remained silent. After the elevator ascended a few floors, he couldn't help but speak again: "When you're in an elevator, do you ever feel unsafe, like it might fall at any moment—"
"Shut up."
"I'm just a little nervous, phew." Spider-Man let out a sigh of relief: "There were only two of us, sitting in the elevator for a minute or two, and then not saying a word."
"Could you please shut up?"
"Feel sorry."
Peter fell silent, but then he remembered something that had happened during the battle. Just as he was about to speak, he saw the Punisher turn his head slightly and stare at him silently, so he shut up.
I'll ask again later.
The elevator finally opened on the top five floors of Avengers Tower. As Peter stepped out, he expertly instructed Jarvis, "Jarvis, help me investigate the recent missing persons cases. Even if Kal-King can mimic humans, he still needs to follow the law of conservation of matter—although many people don't seem to follow it anymore, he will definitely still need to devour others to restore the number of spiders."
"It's no use. This city is full of homeless people and drug addicts that nobody cares about. Your spider friend can easily fill his stomach."
As he spoke, the Punisher pulled a bottle of whiskey from under the bar, opened it, and poured himself a glass: "He can hide whenever he wants."
"Based on my understanding of Carl, he won't give up so easily. He might not be able to deal with me immediately, but he'll target the people around me. Luckily, my family is all on vacation, and he doesn't know where I live. My only option is to go to the school gate tomorrow morning to find my friends."
Frank hadn't even taken a sip of his drink when he heard this. He paused for a moment, then put the drink down and walked towards Spider-Man: "What's going on with you?"
"?"
"A student? Maybe not even a college student, a high school student? You... you're just wandering around the city in this clothes, dealing with those bastards with guns, fine. But what about that Jumping Guy (referring to Thriller) you beat up before, Chameleon, and this guy now? What are you doing?"
"...Try to be a friendly neighbor and help out in any way you can."
"Really?" Frank didn't intend to ask any more questions, and sat down on the Avengers' sofa with his drink. "So how are you going to deal with this friend of yours? With your mouth?"
Of course, it wasn't just his words that allowed Peter to produce the only spider carcass that hadn't been burned after the battle.
“An animal’s physical structure determines its behavior. For Culkin’s mind to control so many spiders simultaneously, it must rely on something else, such as pheromones. I can easily borrow Hankpym’s research findings. With proper pheromone induction, I can force Culkin to follow me.” This wasn’t particularly difficult. Peter believed that with Jarvis’s help, the pheromone modulation could be accomplished in one night. All that was left was to lie in wait at the school the next morning to prevent Culkin from suddenly appearing and harming his friends.
In addition, there is thermal imaging. Spiders and humans have different average temperatures, and countless spiders mimicking different creatures will also look different in thermal imaging. This gives Peter enough information to solve his problem.
Frank watched Spider-Man get busy, said nothing, and simply lay down on the sofa to rest. He had killed many villains and bastards, but he had never killed a large group of spiders.
He hoped to have a peaceful dream tonight.
Meanwhile, Peter took the spider into the lab for analysis. He then checked his phone; the screen was cracked from the fighting over the past few days. He sighed and saw a message from Gwen:
—When are you coming home? I have something to tell you.
"I have something to do tonight, I might not be home until very late..."
Peter will most likely not be able to go back tonight. Even if the possibility is slim, he still needs to keep an eye on any news and be ready to act at any time. There is no place more suitable for monitoring the entire city of New York than Avengers Tower.
Looking at the already risen moon, Peter received another message from Gwen, who said she could wait a little longer. Peter then offered Gwen a few more words of encouragement.
"It doesn't seem to be anything urgent, and they didn't call me. Phew."
When he came out of the laboratory, he heard the Punisher's rapid and muffled snoring.
Peter removed his mask and silently looked at the entire map of New York.
Frank Cassel rarely dreams since that day.
He seemed to have no need to dream anymore; after all, the moment he closed his eyes, he could see the horrific scene of his wife and children dying before his eyes, and hear their voices. He couldn't forget that afternoon; it was just an ordinary afternoon spent on a picnic in Central Park.
None of this would have happened if we hadn't encountered the gang fight, or if we hadn't gone on the picnic.
But that wasn't what Frank dreamed about.
He dreamt of a mother and a daughter. He saw his mother raise a gun, point it at his head, and then pull the trigger.
Frank Castle woke up before dawn. He looked at the sky in silence, then got up and smelled the aroma of coffee.
He saw Spider-Man, who had half his face showing, drinking coffee.
"Good morning, would you like a cup? Avengers' coffee is pretty good."
The Punisher ignored him, instead taking out his own medication and swallowing it in one gulp with water. Spider-Man walked up to him and asked the question he hadn't asked in the elevator.
"Why did you choose that method when dealing with the chameleon? It's like you have some personal grudge against him."
