I'm working on Marvel's Spider-Man in American comics.
Chapter 19 Escape?
Chapter 19 Escape?
"Are there still...people who haven't evacuated yet?"
Peter Parker's voice trembled, and every word seemed forced from his lungs. His arms and back bore an unimaginable weight—an entire section of viaduct weighing four or five hundred tons was bearing down on him. Even if not all the supporting columns had collapsed, he would have felt as if the whole world was trying to crush him.
Peter had never tested the limits of his strength before, but now he felt he had reached his limit. Even if a single pigeon landed on the bridge, he would collapse from the weight of his weight. Blood roared in his veins, and his eardrums bulged to the point of bursting. His vision blurred, leaving only a blinding flash of light and darkness. He couldn't even hear his own heartbeat, only a dying humming echoing in his skull.
He wasn't sure if anyone hadn't evacuated safely, as he couldn't feel anything anymore and that was his only means of warning.
"No one has left yet!"
It seemed as if someone answered him, but he heard nothing. The rusty taste in his throat was the only thing he could feel. No, there was something else, a violent and rapid vibration in his arms and back. Even without sight and hearing, Peter could still feel something—
The subway is about to arrive at the station.
A huge sound seemed to ring in his ears. Spider-Man just stood there, looking shaky. The crowd gathered outside the viaduct, looking at Spider-Man who was struggling to hold on. Then, as if they saw something else, they turned their heads to look over.
Peter Parker suddenly felt a bloody scene before his eyes, and his hands and back no longer felt any weight. The sudden relief made him lose consciousness and fall into the bloody scene.
That wasn't blood, it was a giant red hand.
"I caught the kid. Tony, your MK38 is needed here."
A giant Ant-Man, seemingly straight out of an Ultraman set, held the unconscious Spider-Man in one hand and the broken bridge with the other. The subway roared past, unharmed. The crowd erupted in thunderous cheers, celebrating the Avengers' rescue of the city once again.
Immediately afterwards, a blue streak of light cut through the smoke and dust, and the heavy steel armor fell to the ground with a bang. The MK38 armor "Ego" replaced Spider-Man and stood on the cross-section of the support column. The hydraulic jack in the spine unfolded with a "clang". As Ant-Man slowly put down his hand, MK38 held the bridge steadily.
After Ant-Man shrunk down along with Spider-Man who fainted in his palm, he carried the child on his back and rode away from the scene on a flying ant. At the same time, he finally had time to make the next communication.
"I'm taking the kid back to Avengers Tower. Where's Herman? Tony?"
"Um, Captain and Wasp are chasing him, and I'm keeping a close eye on him from the air."
Dehydration, heat, cooling system failure - the state of the fleeing Jing Horror was terrible. He stumbled and slid in the air, not even noticing how the shield defied the laws of physics and bounced at a weird angle, hitting his back hard and sending him falling from the sky to the ground, sparks flying on the ground.
"It's over, Hermann Schultz."
Captain America stopped in front of Herman on his motorcycle and said, "You don't understand how dangerous your actions and weapons are. Now, disarm immediately!"
"Yeah, just surrender to the Avengers." The Wasp suddenly appeared and stabbed him in the back of the neck with her bioelectric stinger - but unfortunately, not even a spark was produced.
"I have no idea……?"
Hermann, who had originally intended to escape, was so enraged that he laughed, his laughter hoarse as sandpaper scraping against his chest. He didn't even stand up, but simply clenched his fists, and powerful shockwaves began to spread out in waves. The ground beneath his feet began to collapse bit by bit, and the air was visually distorted by the change in density. Traffic lights, telephone poles, and fire hydrants began to deform severely, and the Captain and Wasp began to stagger.
While continuing to release vibration waves, Terror stood up and finally let out a roar.
"I know how powerful my invention is!" Herman roared, standing up. "So powerful that it requires the Avengers!"
The moment the captain seized the opportunity to pounce, the ground collapsed again. The captain jumped up and inserted his shield into the concrete road to prevent himself from falling, while Horror had already used the vibration wave to jump and escape again.
"Where are you going, Hermann? There's nowhere to run!"
The seemingly inconspicuous wasp actually caught up with Horror and was following him not far behind, continuously firing electric stings. The damage was not much, but Herman couldn't escape with his tail, so after another jump, he turned around and aimed at the wasp that was difficult to see in his sight.
A golden and red figure attacked at supersonic speed. Iron Man knocked him back to the street, and after landing handsomely, he pre-activated the armor-piercing bullet from his arm armor: "Surrender, Hermann, I don't know where your gold-titanium alloy comes from, but I know very well that your equipment can't withstand my fire." Hermann, who was attacked one after another, laughed.
He suddenly realized that besides killing Spider-Man, there was another more suitable way for him to become famous - that is, even if the Avengers came to arrest him, they would return empty-handed.
He raised his hands in a gesture of surrender, but smiled as Iron Man approached.
"Goodbye, Iron Man."
The armor-piercing rounds were fired as the words were spoken, but the floor beneath Terror's feet had already collapsed. Terror, fleeing into the sewers, collapsed a dozen meters of the road in one fell swoop, burying the entire sewer. Avoiding anyone's pursuit, the captain, who had arrived on a motorcycle, could only watch as Iron Man and Wasp pointed their guns at the collapsed road in bewilderment.
As for Thriller, he only has one place to go now.
Hermann, donning his armor, used his remaining strength and the kinetic energy of battle to reach Otto's base. This time, the base didn't require his key; the door was already unlocked. Before Terror could enter, a mechanical claw grabbed him and pulled him inside. Then, several tentacle-armed robots slithered out, cleaned up the traces, and closed the base's door.
"I saw you perform," a synthesized voice called from the shadows. "You could have killed Spider-Man. Why didn't you hold back?"
Herman took off his helmet, which was almost full of his sweat, and took the bottle of mineral water handed to him by the mechanical claw.
"I don't know. Maybe it's just because I've never killed anyone. Maybe it's because I trust Spider-Man to hold up that bridge, but if I were to kill someone… it would be different."
Hermann, who was sitting against the wall, paused for a long time before saying this. Otto was silent for a long time and turned on the lights that had never been turned on in the stronghold.
As the soft white light turned on, Hermann finally saw the mysterious "Otto".
He was a middle-aged man with quadriplegia who seemed to have no ability to move. He put himself in a bloated mechanical life-support device. It seemed that he could hardly even turn his neck. Some mechanical devices directly pierced his throat, combining his vocal cords with the electronic generator. He wore goggles on his eyes and seemed to have difficulty adapting to the bright light environment. The four flexible mechanical tentacles were his current limbs.
"A little light, and you may be more comfortable, my friend."
"I...I really didn't expect you to be like this."
Otto didn't care at all. He just turned to the old computers and continued his calculations. "If you have an 'old friend' like Norman Osborn, then you're lucky to be able to turn out like this."
Hermann instinctively felt that Dr. Otto in front of him still had a lot to tell him, but he didn't want to ask too much. Instead, after pouring the remaining water on his head, he made his request.
"Could you please help me contact that 'big boss'? I'm sure he wouldn't refuse a job from someone who can open any lock."
Otto used his mechanical claws to adjust his glasses.
"Is this what you're going to do? Work after you become famous? Get yourself a good job?"
"The next step is to get rid of the Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America, Ant-Man, and the Wasp..." Herman rationally did not mention the names of Hulk and Thor: "I want to tell them that my equipment, Herman Schultz, can far surpass Tony Stark, Hank Pym, or anyone else. I am a true genius!"
Herman's ultimate goal is to become famous, and famous at that, so the Avenger is his goal. To achieve this goal, he needs more money to upgrade his armor, especially to improve the heat dissipation capacity to avoid dehydration like today.
So, he needed money, a lot of money, and he didn't have any stock. If he just robbed a bank, he would be caught by the Avengers before the plan was completed. So Herman thought of Kingpin. Since Kingpin was willing to sponsor him to make armor, then if he showed his ability, Kingpin would definitely be willing to let him work for him.
Otto does not intend to reject his new friend Hermann. He also needs someone influential enough to investigate the strength of the Avengers and other superheroes so as to adjust his weapons manufacturing plan, but he has other problems.
"What about Spider-Man? You can't say you've completely defeated him. Is that the end of it?"
"He will come looking for me, and once I upgrade my armor, he won't be my match."
