Chapter 74 Ogre

Chapter 74 Ogre

As Gaucano was discussing things with Daris, the cook's voice suddenly came from outside the tent: "Dinner's ready!"

He left the tent and returned shortly afterward with a large piece of roasted meat.

Daryls' attention was immediately drawn to the fragrant roast meat. Her eyes lit up at first, but then she quickly looked disappointed.

Gao Jiano didn't notice the change in her expression at first, and continued to eat his roast meat.

It wasn't until half a minute later that he noticed Daryls's unusual behavior and couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong?"

Daryls's voice betrayed her disappointment: "I want to eat meat, but I can't."

Gao Jiano didn't know how to comfort her.

In fact, intelligent undead can taste food just like humans, except that the food they eat immediately scatters everywhere, and grease and debris stick to their bones, requiring special cleaning.

This was undoubtedly a terrible experience, especially for a clean and tidy young girl.

Daryls sighed, "Perhaps there is some magic that can help me solve the problem of eating."

“There does seem to be a spell called ‘Undead Feeding’,” Gao Jiano recalled.

Darliss was taken aback: "Such magic really exists?"

Gaugano nodded: "I saw this spell in a blood elf book. Although it was only mentioned by name, it at least proves that it does exist."

“The blood elves possess the most extensive magical knowledge in the history of Faralore, and they also have a complex culinary culture, so it is indeed possible that they created this kind of magic,” Darius said. “Unfortunately, the blood elves are extinct, and much of their knowledge has not been preserved.”

Gaucano: "I will go to Ax City in the future. Perhaps the magic academy there can find clues about the 'Undead Feeding Spell'."

Darius: "I've also heard that the Academy of Magic at Ax holds the most blood elf texts, as well as renowned scholars and mages like Randolph... When do you plan to go to Ax?"

“I haven’t decided yet, maybe in a few years. You know, even considering the portal, Ax City is quite far from here, I need to be prepared before I set off,” Gaugano added. “But I will definitely go.”

Daryls seemed thoughtful, then suddenly said, "Perhaps my father is also in Ax."

Gaucano was surprised: "Why?"

Daryls: "I don't have many memories of him, but many of them are related to the Ax Academy of Magic, which he called a paradise for magicians."

Gao Jiano couldn't help but ask, "What about Deep Blue Academy?"

Darliss: "Deep Blue Academy is certainly powerful, but it only belongs to nobles and prospective nobles. Ax Magic Academy is different; it belongs to all those who love magic."

She changed the subject: "Why did you go to Ax City? Was it also because you love magic?"

"More or less," Gao Jiano said noncommittally, while taking another bite of his roasted meat. "By the way, tell me more about the spell 'Hand of the Mage'."

……

Over the next few days, the Gray Eagle mercenaries continued clearing the forest.

Like humans in many other planes, as they advanced, wild beasts, monsters, goblins, trees, weeds... all kinds of living things in the forest were swept away.

At the same time, some simple wooden houses were also built one after another.

It is foreseeable that in the near future, this place will become a small town, just like Fumu Town, which is dozens of kilometers away.

The mercenaries also paid a price; more than a dozen were wounded, and one was killed. This was not surprising, since if this land had been completely safe, it probably wouldn't have taken so long to be cleared.

Fortunately, there were several hundred Gray Eagle mercenaries clearing the land, so these casualties were manageable.

Gao Jiano's team was particularly fortunate, having encountered no danger so far and instead reaping considerable rewards, having hunted down several magical beasts. That noon, as they cleared the land, they reached the banks of the Floating Wood River. Standing by the water, Gao Jiano could vaguely make out some familiar sights in the distance.

Ryan pointed: "You saved me on the road behind that hill."

Gao Jiano nodded, recalling some past events in Floating Wood Town.

Ryan: "Don't you want to go back and see?"

After a moment of silence, Gao Jiano said, "There's nothing to see, and there's no bridge around here."

"Hand over the silver coins!" As the two were talking, a savage voice suddenly came from afar, speaking in broken human language, clearly a robbery tactic.

Ryan's expression changed slightly: "Thomas and the others have encountered cannibals! We need to get there quickly!"

The two immediately turned and ran away, and Daryls, who was playing in the water nearby, also quickly got up and ran after them.

Soon they saw the cannibal.

There were only two, and they weren't very big.

The two ogres, carrying large wooden clubs on their shoulders, blocked Thomas and his companions' path, stretching out their hands and snarling, "Silver coins!"

The two ogres were taller than Cassandra, and like all ogres, they were burly, with menacing faces and horns on their heads.

Despite their intimidating appearance, anyone with a little knowledge would easily tell that these two guys were probably only around level three and posed no threat to Thomas's squad.

So Thomas remained calm and instead teased the two ogres: "Gold coins won't do?"

"No! We only want silver coins!" the ogre said, still speaking in broken human language.

“Alright.” Thomas immediately took out a handful of silver coins and threw them aside. “You can pick them up yourselves.”

One ogre was about to pick it up, but another ogre stopped him, babbling a bunch of things until he finally looked like he'd just realized something.

He stared at Thomas again: "You cunning human, were you trying to ambush me while I was picking up the silver coins? My clever friend has already seen through your scheme!"

“Indeed very clever.” Thomas sighed, then suddenly leaped up and slammed his shield down on the ogre in front of him.

"Boom!" The ogre screamed in pain as it was hit, and several teeth flew out of its mouth.

At the same time, Thomas swung his sword at another cannibal.

The latter quickly held the large stick in front of him, narrowly blocking the long sword that was aimed at his throat.

But then, an arrow shot out.

"Whoosh—" The steel arrow pierced through the ogre's body, sending up a spray of blood.

Ogres rarely fear death. After being pierced by the steel arrow, he showed no fear but instead roared furiously and charged straight at Gaugano, who had fired the arrow.

Gaucano remained expressionless and drew his longsword.

Half a second later, Ryan appeared beside the ogre's leg in a flash, his dagger swiftly slicing across the Achilles tendon.

The ogre's Achilles tendon ruptured, and he immediately collapsed to the ground. Gaucano then leaped over and pierced his neck with a sword.
