Mercenary Wars

Chapter 2 Mercenaries

Chapter 2 Mercenaries
Gao Jianuo: "..."

Raymond was stunned for a moment, and realized that his judgment was a bit wrong: "No, he seems to be dead."

He took another closer look and felt even more that it was a dead body: "It's really dead, what should I do?"

Gao Jianuo did not respond, but stared at the man on the ground and thought for a while.

The man was lying on the ground with his head sideways. He was wearing leather armor with a gray metal epaulette.

The epaulettes were engraved with an eagle with spread wings. The shape and pattern were in line with Gao Jianuo's aesthetic taste, which made his eyes linger for a while. Unfortunately, he still couldn't recognize which lord or group of bandits it belonged to.

Gao Jianuo decided to touch the man.

It's not because of any special quirks, but because of his panel abilities.

"Cognition" can help him understand himself, and it can also help him understand external objects - with just a light touch.

He reached out and touched the man's body.

[Race: Farallo]

[Level: Level 4]

[Status: Injured]

Level 4!

The man's rank surprised Gao Jianuo.

Level four, even for civilian professions such as thieves, warriors, and hunters, is considered quite powerful. In a small place like Driftwood Town, he can definitely be considered a big shot.

But... injured?
Gao Jianuo frowned.

That's not right. His body is obviously cold, how can he be injured?
He hesitated for a moment, then touched the man a few more times to confirm his body temperature and heartbeat.

At this moment, the man suddenly opened his eyes and said weakly and angrily: "What are you doing?"

"You're not dead!" Raymond opened his eyes wide.

Gao Jianuo was also surprised and quickly took two steps back, gripping the short bow tightly.

The man climbed up, and the arm hidden under his body was holding a dagger, but the large amount of blood on his abdomen made it clear that he had no intention of attacking. He just sat on the ground and gasped for breath.

Looking at his bloody abdomen, Raymond immediately said, "You need treatment. If you are also a follower of Mosa and Saint Roden, I can help you find a priest. He is nearby."

The man panted: "Of course, I believe in Mosa, follow Saint Luoden, and fight for Nordenlun..."

In Ferraro, faith is the most serious matter. At least for the devout Raymond, that's enough.

"You wait here!" Raymond said as he put down his luggage. Ignoring Gao Jianuo's persuasion, he turned around and ran towards the cabin, and disappeared in a moment.

Gao Jianuo was a little embarrassed: "I just wanted to confirm your situation."

The man covered his abdomen and looked at Gao Jianuo for a few times: "Are you servants of the Driftwood Town Church?"

"Yes."

"It seems I'm lucky." The man's expression relaxed a little.

Gao Jianuo: "Are you a soldier of Duke Nordalon?"

The man pointed to his epaulettes. "Technically, I'm from the Grey Eagle Mercenary Group. However, Duke Nordalon is our main employer... You've probably heard of the Grey Eagle Mercenary Group in Southshore Town, right?"

Gao Jianuo nodded. "I also heard that Nanhai Town is a chaotic place, with frequent crimes, conflicts and even wars."

"Pretty much," the man said half-jokingly. "Mercenaries, adventurers, pagans, criminals, goblins, forest trolls... This is probably the most lively place in the Principality of Nordaren. If you're tired of this boring life like me, coming to Southshore is a good choice."

The two chatted for a while and gradually let down their guard.

"What's your name? My name is Ryan." The man put away the dagger and took the initiative to introduce himself.

"Gorgano." Ryan: "Is this your official holy name?"

Gao Jianuo put the short bow aside. "Of course not. This is just my parents' expectation. 'Gao Jianuo' is a sword-wielding saint. If this is my holy name, I will definitely use a sword instead of a bow. At least from an aesthetic point of view, most people prefer swords."

Ryan smiled and said, "Indeed."

"How did you get hurt?"

"This is normal for mercenaries." Ryan obviously didn't want to answer.

Gao Jianuo looked at his abdomen: "If you don't mind, I can help you treat the wound."

Ryan: "I'd better wait for the pastor to come."

Gao Jianuo took out tools from the leather bag on his waist. "The priest probably won't come, so I just advised Raymond not to waste his time."

Ryan was silent for a moment, then nodded.

He lifted his clothes, revealing a wound on his abdomen. It was a narrow wound, obviously caused by a sharp weapon, but fortunately not deep, and probably had no damage to his internal organs.

Gao Jianuo took out a green stone that exuded a faint herbal scent, and rubbed it hard through the papyrus. The stone immediately turned into powder and slowly sprinkled it on the man's wound.

Ryan couldn't help but ask, "Why did you crush the healing stone with a piece of paper between you?"

"It's nothing, just a personal habit," said Gao Jianuo.

He did this entirely because of the hygiene concepts he learned from his previous life, although he was not sure whether this concept made sense in the Fararo world - the natural laws here were very different from those on Earth.

After all the healing stone powder was sprinkled on, he began to bandage Ryan.

After the bandage was applied, Raymond ran back.

Just as Gao Jianuo expected, he failed to bring Pastor Green, and he looked dejected and probably got scolded.

"How is it?" asked Gao Jianuo.

Raymond said embarrassedly: "Lord Green said he has something important to do and can't come."

"Let's take him to church."

"it is good."

Then Gao Jianuo and Raymond carried Ryan and left.

A few hours later, the three finally arrived at Driftwood Town, and the injured Ryan caused some discussion among the townspeople.

"Grey Eagle Mercenary Group!"

"By Moza, is there going to be a war?"

Listening to people's discussions, Ryan couldn't help but say, "It's obvious that Driftwood Town has been peaceful for a long time. If I were in South Sea Town, the kids on the street wouldn't even give me a second glance."

Raymond: "Are you so unwelcome in Nanhai Town?"

Ryan said nothing.

The three of them came to the church.

There were no extra rooms in the church, so Gao Jianuo and Raymond had to place Ryan in their own residence, a small double room. Raymond even took the initiative to give up his bed for Ryan to rest.

"Thank you." Ryan lay on the bed. "If it weren't for you, I would have been torn to pieces by the beasts in the forest..."

After a pause, he continued, "What can I do for you in return? As long as it's not an excessive request, I can agree to it."

Raymond blurted out, "No need for reward! Pastor Green taught us that dedication is a noble virtue and a smooth path to light."

Ryan looked at him and said, "Some people make selfless contributions, while others get something for nothing. I don't want to be that person."
