Chapter 13 The Dragon and the Distance
Chapter 13 The Dragon and the Distance
"I want to go to the Highest Mountain," said Carcro.
Gao Jianuo was stunned: "You want to go to the highest mountain?"
Carlo: "Yes, the tallest mountain in the Farallo continent, who wouldn't want to go and see it?"
Gao Jianuo: "That's right, but the Highest Mountain is so far away, and you have to pass through several countries along the way. You are going alone. Aren't you afraid of encountering danger?"
"I have the ability to foresee danger," said Calcero.
Anticipate danger.
This is undoubtedly an ability that most people would envy, and Gao Jianuo is no exception.
But he also had some doubts: "Excuse me, when you told the story in the tavern, you didn't seem to predict what happened later."
Carlo was a little embarrassed: "This... This is not dangerous, at least not life-threatening. Besides, my ability is not without limits."
"Okay." Gao Jianuo nodded.
Calclo was sentenced to three months of compulsory labor, during which his life was almost as boring as that of the church servants.
This was a painful process for him.
Fortunately, Gao Jianuo chatted with him from time to time, which made his life less boring.
As the two of them became more familiar with each other, their conversation naturally became more straightforward.
"I made up the story of Yemen's ascension to the godhood, but he did transform from a mortal into an immortal god. This is a historical fact!" Carlo couldn't help but look around while speaking, so as not to be discovered by the priest or some devout believer.
Seeing his confident tone, Gao Jianuo couldn't help but ask, "What's the basis for that?"
"Based on, well... Honestly, I don't know either, but this is what my uncle told me." Carlo added, "My uncle is a magic instructor at Deep Blue Academy. You should know Deep Blue Academy, right?"
Gao Jianuo asked again: "Did your uncle tell you how Yemen became a god?"
Carlo thought for a moment, "It seems not, but he once said, 'Gods are nothing more than mortals in their twenties,' so I think the process of becoming a god should be essentially the same as that of a mortal, just more difficult."
Gods are nothing more than mortals in their twenties!
This sentence touched Gao Jianuo deeply.
Since gods are merely humans of a higher order, it is perfectly natural for humans to become gods.
Gao Jianuo believes that he is special, at least in this life. He is a time traveler and possesses a rare and perhaps even unique blessing of "cognition".
If man can become God, why doesn't he try?
Gao Jianuo worked hard in his previous life, but it was a conventional effort. After experiencing the time travel once, he did not want to repeat it again.
Ascension to the gods...
His thoughts began to extend, and his fantasies gradually turned into ideals.
Carlo suddenly joked, "As a church member, you're actually discussing this with me. How disrespectful! I'm going to report you to the priest. Maybe that way I can be exempted from the rest of my labor."
Gao Jianuo's thoughts were interrupted, and he smiled and said nonchalantly: "It doesn't matter even if you really report it. In fact, I have already considered leaving here."
Carlo was a little surprised: "Why?"
Gao Jianuo did not answer, but asked: "Why did you leave Nanhai Town?"
Calclo seemed to have the answer already: "I want to go far away! Perhaps you have heard the adventurer's proverb, life is not just about goblins in front of you, but also about dragons and the distance."
"I also yearn for dragons and distant places," said Gao Jianuo. Carlo became excited: "Then let's go to the Highest Mountain together!"
Gao Jianuo shook his head: "No, that's too far. Besides, the distance I want is not a change of place, but a change of lifestyle. What's the point of going to the highest mountain?"
Carlo seemed touched by his words. After a moment of contemplation, he said, "Where are you going? If you know of any interesting places, I can go with you."
"I want to go to Nanhai Town." Gao Jianuo said bluntly.
"Ah?" Carlo was stunned. "Why do you want to go to such a boring place?"
Gorgano: "It might be boring to you, but not to me."
Calklo: "Why don't you try another place? Liberland, Thane, or even Dibuto, I think they're all good. And the lifestyle there is definitely different from Nordenlun."
"No," Gao Jianuo said without hesitation, "I don't know those places at all. I do want to change my lifestyle, but not casually."
After a pause, he continued, "Honestly, Carlo, if you're going to the Highest Mountain just to see the scenery, I suggest you return to Southsea Town. From what I hear, there seem to be several mountains to the east of Southsea Town."
"No, it's absolutely impossible. Even if I jump off the highest mountain, I will not return to Nanhai Town!" Carlo was very determined.
Time passes day by day.
Shortly after turning 18, Gao Jianuo formally asked Pastor Gerard to leave the church.
Gerard, who had taken over the position of chief pastor of the church, tried to retain him several times and offered him a better salary.
But what Gao Jianuo wanted was a wider space and more possibilities, not a few more silver coins every month, so of course he was not moved.
Seeing his resolute attitude, Pastor Gerard didn't say anything more. Apostles who grew up in the church could choose their own lives at the age of eighteen. This was a long-standing tradition and rule of the Mosaic faith.
Before leaving, Gao Jianuo asked the town's blacksmith to help him forge a handy dagger as his melee weapon.
Although the journey to Nanhai Town is not very long or dangerous, it is still worth being more cautious than the Driftwood Forest.
After everything was ready, Gao Jianuo said goodbye to a few acquaintances and set off.
Calclo also finished his labor, and the two left Driftwood Town together and walked to a fork in the road outside the town.
The fork in the road is divided into three roads, in addition to the road leading to Driftwood Town, one goes north and the other goes south.
"Are you still going to the Highest Mountain?" asked Gao Jianuo.
Carlo nodded.
"Well, good luck to you." Gao Jianuo didn't quite understand this idea, but it had nothing to do with him after all.
"Good luck to you too."
The two waved goodbye and left towards the distant place in their hearts, one in the south and the other in the north.
But to Gao Jianuo's surprise, just half an hour later, he heard a hurried sound of footsteps coming from far behind him.
He looked back and found that it was Carlo who was walking towards him quickly, his face a little pale.
Gao Jianuo was extremely surprised: "What's wrong?"
"Danger, a feeling of danger!" Carlo paused, his tone hinting at lingering fear. "As I head north, this feeling gets stronger."
He glanced behind him, then headed south without looking back: "I'm not going to the Highest Mountain anymore. I'm going back to Nanhai Town!"
