Chapter 68 Banquet
The team captains present all nodded firmly.

Eric then turned his gaze once again to the members who stood silently, eager to try.

He said it in a firm and powerful tone.

"Family members, this is the first task the Holy Maiden has entrusted to us! We must complete it no matter what!"

"Think about your past struggles with illness! Think about the suffering of your families! Who rescued you from hell? Who gave you healthy bodies and boundless strength?"

As he finished speaking, everyone present became agitated.

However, no one interrupted rashly; instead, their gazes burned even brighter as they looked at the black coffin in the center of the crowd.

“That’s right, it’s the Saintess! She saved every one of us here, every family! We were once destitute, we once had nothing…”

"And today marks the first step in our repayment of this redemption! There is only success, no failure!"

"yes!!"

His response was a cacophony of suppressed affirmations.

Subsequently, under the leadership of their respective team leaders, everyone went into hiding.

In the dark alley, pairs of eyes radiating a scarlet light quietly disappeared.

The alleyway once again fell into ordinary darkness, with only the occasional bats fluttering in the corners proving that this place was anything but ordinary.

...

In the blink of an eye, the sun rises and sets.

The massive cathedral in the city center was brightly lit under the night sky.

Sheriff Tom, with his wife and children, drove to the church entrance.

After the driver opened the car door, everyone got out.

Tom, with his sharp eyes, noticed that the newly arrived governor, along with his family and secretary, also got out of the car.

He quickly turned his eyes around, put on a surprised expression, opened his arms and walked over to say hello.

"Oh, Mr. Smith! What a coincidence! Are you also a devout believer? It's an honor to pray with you."

He rattled off a whole bunch of things, and in response he received the same polite hug and a standard smile that seemed to have been measured with a ruler.

The two flattered each other as they entered the magnificent church with their respective families through the open doors.

Then came groups of family members, along with other local dignitaries and social celebrities.

This is a gathering in the name of piety, where "high-minded" transactions and deals are discussed under God's watchful eye.

This practice can be traced back to medieval noble meetings.

Often, the grandest wars and the darkest schemes are born in such settings.

Of course, tonight is no exception.

The newly arrived governor brought a plate of sweet cheese, and all the "experienced" connoisseurs were drawn over by the aroma.

Geological surveys indicate that there will be large-scale geological changes in the northwest of the state capital, an area that is one of the top grain-producing regions in the United States.

It is home to a large number of farms, ranches, and various towns with a style reminiscent of the last century.

This geological shift is expected to cause half of the farmers to suffer losses for a whole year.

After discussion, the officials at the top were exceptionally generous and distributed a large sum of money as subsidies and funds for subsequent rescue and burial.

“Those cow-dung-smelling bastards will thank us, won’t they, Sheriff Tom?”

Smith, arm in arm with his young and beautiful wife, slightly raised a glass of champagne.

They celebrated the upcoming "harvest" with the smiling, chubby sheriff in front of them.

Upon hearing this, Tom rubbed his chubby chin.

He held a small Bible, one of the copies in front of everyone, to his chest and spoke with a compassionate tone, "Oh yes, Mr. Smith, I hope those farmers will protect their crops and cows after receiving the earthquake warnings."

Having said that, he put on airs for a moment and placed the Bible on the low table beside him, his tone somewhat mocking.

"Otherwise, they probably won't be able to afford bread and milk. Those greedy merchants will raise the prices several times over, haha~"

Hearing the two talking loudly, the other well-dressed men and women around them also smiled reservedly in agreement.

Everyone was immersed in laughter.

However, what they didn't notice was that the people around them, dressed in black and white clergy uniforms, all had cold expressions on their faces.

Hearing what they were saying, the anger in everyone's eyes seemed ready to burst forth at any moment, burning these "devils" in human skin to ashes.

However, they managed to restrain themselves amidst a moment of gritted teeth, because the encirclement was not yet complete, and this mission had to be carried out flawlessly.

Standing silently throughout the prayer hall, the posing clergy remained in their positions.

But beneath their lowered heads, pairs of bright red eyes were fixed on the few who were beating the loudest in the center of the arena.

As time went on, the party came to a close.

Some men and women couldn't resist dancing together in this sacred hall.

Their intertwined shapes and separations on the magnificent marble floor create a lively scene.

However, what no one in the room knew was...

As night fell, a bat with only scarlet pupils fluttered out and surrounded the entire large city church.

A large bat with grayish-white fur fluttered down and landed on the spire of the bell tower on the side of the church.

After a twisting and expanding motion, it transformed into a handsome old man wearing a black trench coat.

The old man stared intently at the brightly lit hall below, lost in thought.

Then another flapping sound came, causing the old man to turn his head slightly.

On the nearby bricks and tiles, a smaller bat with lighter-colored fur landed.

In a twist, it transformed back into the same thin, young boy from before.

"Captain Eric, the defenses on the west side are complete. Those people have nowhere to escape now!"

As he spoke, the boy grinned, revealing gleaming fangs, his tone filled with excitement, pleasure, and impatience:
"The brothers inside have also sent a signal; they've all drunk the alcohol laced with anesthetic. Captain Eric, should we make our move? Can I teach these guys a lesson?"

Hearing the somewhat inappropriate words of the boy beside him, the old man Eric said nothing.

This boy was the one he and the saintess rescued together.

When the boy was discovered, his home had been taken back by government officials. His parents had both died from misoperation of machinery at the factory, leaving behind only the teenager.

The boy was rescued from gangsters after his legs were broken, supposedly because he had taken out some high-interest loan.

But it doesn't matter anymore, since that gang no longer exists anyway.

But this series of events also made the boy hate those officials and businessmen to the core.

More than once, he has asked Eric to carry out the "admonition" plan.

Later, unable to refuse any longer, they made an exception and squeezed in this half-grown boy who did not meet the standards for operatives.

I was thinking of doing some messenger and logistical work, things that weren't too dangerous or important.

However, the result surprised Eric.

The boy was quick-witted, intelligent, and had good execution skills; he also offered several effective suggestions.

In the end, Eric simply took him under his wing.
