Industrial Cthulhu? It's Cthulhu Industrial!!
Chapter 37: Unnatural Things
Chapter 37: Unnatural Things (Please Read!)
The islands marked by the spirits of nature are so large that one can even see the distance between them with the naked eye.
But on the ocean and on land, such visible targets are often actually reached by walking a very long distance.
If a true Britannia fleet embarked on a pioneering expedition, the team would often operate in silence. A considerable portion of their equipment had been replaced by various magical creations, and the only things left in the cabins were either sacrifices or sacrificial reserves. Everything was proceeding according to the optimized plan.
However, Leon couldn't possibly use such an extravagant method to navigate, as he simply didn't have enough living people. More fundamentally, he had no idea how to communicate with the Sea God and the Wind God, nor how to bestow blessings from other related gods. Furthermore, judging by the Saint's progress, it seemed like it had nothing to do with this strange thing.
Because of the overlapping functions of the products, the entire Saint appears to be submerged in the water, but in reality it is floating on the surface and gliding outward. The poor sails and power system can only make it three steps forward and two steps back, and it can only move forward with difficulty towards the marked island.
Fortunately, the inheritance of the Silver Gate makes them very receptive to this kind of life.
They do not feel that this kind of life is suffering or hardship, but rather it is a part of their life that they must endure.
There was no vomiting or seasickness. Although the entire ship tilted from side to side and looked like it would fall below the sea level at any moment, the entire ship still glided along the sea surface with difficulty under the magic of the figurehead of the Saint, moving towards the island in a particularly ugly posture.
Honestly, a normal person would be terrified to see such a colorful mass bursting out of the sea, twisting and turning towards them. But Leon had no other options. Judging from the current situation, there was no better carrier available in the entire Misty Islands. Even the ocean-going vessel was brought here by the storm, so what else could it possibly be?
It's already good enough for a group of primitive people to build a big warship by hand. It's much better than rafts and canoes.
Furthermore, the battleship had its own attention and gaze, and from the strategic mode's bird's-eye view, it seemed to have a hint of divine power, careening towards the marked island. Everyone was armed, and the actual landing craft included small wooden canoes. While everything was shabby, it was still functional.
And in reality, that seemingly brief moment was actually much farther than imagined. An entire day and night passed, and it wasn't until the next day, as the people gnawed the gruesome plant flour with agonizing expressions, that they finally approached the island.
Things that were almost invisible from a distance can now finally be seen clearly what is on the island.
It was obvious that a supernatural terrifying force was at work.
Flowing on the dark island was disgusting light green sewage, and all kinds of bizarre supernatural creatures were wandering freely on it, slaughtering each other.
The image looked like the most malicious patchwork in the world, with all kinds of teeth, tentacles, hair, and other terrifying elements randomly pieced together on the monsters. They even used corpses and other unknown things to pile up things that looked like houses, which looked even more horrifying and terrifying.
“…This is truly disgusting.”
'System prompt: You have discovered a special supernatural environment, distortion!'
"System Notice: This island is shrouded in a vast multitude of malicious supernatural entities, most of which lack intelligence and common sense. They often exist solely for the purpose of destruction, their creation more like a natural error than a normal evolution. These monsters lack even normal physiological systems and all that goes with them, simply being ugly and insane, intent on destroying others. It is time to completely destroy these monsters and complete the mission."
System prompt: Supernatural entities often each possess distinct mysterious resistances and countermeasures, their confusion mirroring their appearance. Aside from a large number of physical attacks and mixed soul attacks, no other attacks seem to have any particular effect on them.
Leon finally understood why the spirits of nature did not deal with these supernatural monsters and allowed them to develop to this point.
These ugly, supernatural creatures, born from the deepest hatred and nightmares, are largely unaffected by natural energy. They possess no souls, no intelligence, and are incapable of civilization. They are merely a group of oversized germs and viruses whose sole purpose in this world is to destroy it.
Looking at the terrifying smiles and countless polygonal tentacles rising from the seemingly spreading mist, Leon knew without hesitation that these monsters possessed unique supernatural abilities. This reminded him of the so-called horror simulations and supernatural settings he had often seen online before his time travel. When these things actually appeared in reality, they were truly even more disgusting.
It seemed as if the ship attracted the attention of these monsters. Even before reaching the island, those supernatural monsters screamed and rushed towards the ship drifting in the ocean.
The extremely deep waters possessed very simple physical properties, completely crushing these monsters. The distances between the islands also swept away these monsters, who couldn't swim, and couldn't possibly swim. But now that the ship was approaching, even dropping anchor, the terrifying monsters on these islands suddenly let out a series of strange cries, whether of excitement or something else, roaring and charging towards them.
Their running and rolling movements even left a thick, burn-like black mark on the beach and the sea. These supernatural monsters would never be recognized by the natural environment, which was proof that the forces of nature rejected their existence.
In the short term, they could even rely on this repulsion to continuously run on the sea surface, and then crash into the ceramic steel outer layer of the Saint.
"Ding!" "System prompt: The Saint is immune to this damage."
"..."
Watching from above as the hideous monster, nearly three men tall, its entire body a grotesque mist and a sinister grin, slammed headfirst into the Saint's hull, Leon initially thought the ship was in danger. However, the massive monster's powerful impact only caused the grayish-white ceramic outer layer to flicker slightly, and then nothing happened.
The outer layer of ceramic steel, forged with the Soul Stone and the special forging techniques of the Lianshan Kiln, possesses formidable defensive capabilities. Once successfully fired, it's virtually impossible to forge it again, unless it's re-melted in the Lianshan Kiln using the power of wonder. After undergoing a second forging by Silver Gate wizards and ordinary researchers, this miraculous substance exhibits defensive properties that put even ordinary natural steel to shame.
However, these monsters evolved from the instinct of destruction, so it is naturally impossible for them to just slap the hull of the ship from under it.
Although these supernatural monsters have no brains or reason, they will destroy instinctively. If one place cannot be destroyed, they will replace it with another.
Like climbing stairs, layer upon layer of monsters piled up under the sea. One after another, these supernatural and terrifying beasts began to rush onto the deck of the ship, making weird noises that were not sure whether they were screams or mockery at the crew members who had already changed into their combat equipment.
If any ordinary human had simply heard those unholy and piercing noises, they would likely have sustained permanent damage. However, for the people of the Silver Gate, the supernatural radiation they faced daily and the very nature of the Silver Gate's birth exempted them from the supernatural interference caused by these screams. Instead, they retreated uniformly into the interior of the ship and began to dismantle the monsters' attacks in stages.
"Follow my orders and follow my rhythm. Retreat to the cabin first! Kill these monsters one by one! They are almost the same as those shadows. With just the spears and shields in our hands, we can completely destroy them!"
As Leon's chosen champion, Charlemagne was naturally on board.
He was now wearing a golden ceramic steel armor and holding a ceramic steel spear forged in the Lianshan kiln in his hand, shouting loudly to the nervous crowd.
Even for those born from the Silver Gate, there was still some nervousness and fear. But under Charlemagne's leadership, they all donned their ceramite armor. Under the austere silver-white and specially crafted blue-white integrated spears, the monsters' first wave of attack was quickly thwarted.
As a wonder of the world, especially one blessed by myth, the Lianshan Kiln possesses only simple functions, yet these functions are undoubtedly incredibly powerful. The ceramic steel spear is only slightly heavier than a typical wooden spearhead, yet its performance and feel are vastly superior to those of a wooden spear.
These weapons, imbued with Soul Stones and their unique mythic lethality, pierced the supernatural entities. Even without any physical attack, the Soul Stones within the ceramite would mysteriously injure them. Seeing no way to harm the ship, the supernatural entities began to attempt to climb into the cabins and kill the personnel within. However, this would only lead to another brutal slaughter by the crew, who had been hiding in the cabins and were already well prepared, using simple shield wall tactics.
This was a tactic Leon had devised specifically to highlight his civilization's unique characteristics. A large, spiked ceramic shield held the foremost position, while a single individual in the rear wielded dual spears, using the buckles on the shields to stab and inflict damage. Within the entire cabin, the monsters, facing the spiked shields that sat flush against the corridor, were unable to harm anyone. While the Saint was incredibly ugly, its stats were truly impressive. The clay within the cabin, mixed with ceramic and soul stones, also effectively prevented these monsters from resorting to desperate measures.
After all the monsters in the cabin are killed, the shield wall will slowly advance to both sides and throw the bodies of these monsters into the sea.
If the supernatural monsters outside rush in again, Leon's shield wall and spear team will be reduced to the inside of the cabin corridor again, and stand in the passage like a city wall, crushing and killing all the supernatural monsters rushing in from the outside bit by bit.
What's that saying? When even the most desperate efforts can't break through the defense, even a single drop of health, the rest of the time is completely wasted. While it was certainly frightening at first, once the ceramic armor stabilized and took effect, the sounds these supernatural beasts emitted became nothing more than the final wails of a dying beast, hoping to take someone with it.
The Silver Gate's guardians, clad in gleaming ceramite armor, advanced incessantly. They divided into several small groups within the ship's cabin, taking turns methodically resting, slaying the supernatural monsters, then pushing their bodies into the sea before retreating back to await the next attack. These mindless supernatural creatures were slain one by one in the deliberately set traps, until no more malevolence emerged from the grotesque and abominable island.
The total fighting time was less than an hour, and these monsters born from the desire for destruction completely destroyed themselves because of their own desires.
The deck was splattered with the black liquid flowing from these supernatural entities. This malevolence gradually dissipated and crumbled under the natural light and breeze, just like the traces on the ocean, gradually collapsing under the power of nature. Only after the last monster was thrown into the sea did Leon's system notification finally arrive.
'System prompt: You have repelled the attack from the supernatural entity!'
'System prompt: You can now send your troops to the island to explore this area full of malice and hatred!'
'System prompt: There are certain dangers on the island, please be careful! In strategic mode, you cannot be harmed. But your soldiers are using their lives to pave the way for you to move forward, please make good use of your soldiers!'
"System prompt: The spirits of nature are issuing a warning that something even more dangerous is hiding and waiting deep within the island. We must enter the interior of the island and completely kill and bury those ugly cores to successfully complete the mission!"
