Chapter 436 After Winning the Bid

Chapter 436 After Winning the Bid (Continued)

In the afternoon, Yan Hui held several meetings and assigned some tasks to some of the company's senior executives. He himself did not go anywhere and stayed in his office.

Around 7 p.m., someone from the office came to find Yan Hui, saying that people from the police station were looking for him. Yan Hui immediately invited the two people in. One of them was Chief Zhao, whom he had encountered on a call earlier that day, and the other was a middle-aged man whom Yan Hui did not recognize.

"Director Zhao, I'm sorry to trouble you. Please have a seat." Yan Hui had a chair and tea set set out, then told the office staff to go home and rest before closing the door himself.

"Don't even mention it, I've been busy since this morning. We're still missing a statement for today's matter. Mr. Yan has been so busy, so I came here mainly to get the statement," Zhao said with a smile.

"That's really troublesome, coming all the way here to see me. I could have just given you a call and come over myself." Yan Hui said as he poured tea.

"It's nothing, it's nothing. You've rid the people of a scourge and fought bravely. What's a little thing like what we've done?" Zhao smiled as he looked at the people who had come with him, then took out paper and pen from his bag and asked.

It was only then that Yan Hui realized that the person who came with Director Zhao was not his follower, but Director Zhao's superior; otherwise, it wouldn't have been Director Zhao who was holding the pen and taking notes.

"Yes, please ask," Yan Hui nodded. "I will answer to the best of my knowledge."

"Okay, name, home address, ID number." Zhao began asking questions, and Yan Hui answered them one by one.

The statement was not complicated and was completed in about half an hour, and all the information was true. Then, Officer Zhao took out a photograph and asked Yan Hui to identify it.

After Yan Hui signed and pressed his fingerprint, he poured the two of them a cup of tea.

"Mr. Yan, we'll return the phone to Mr. Sun in the next few days. We still need to complete some formalities," Zhao said as he put the documents into his bag.

"Yeah." Yan Hui nodded.

"Is there anything else you'd like to ask, Mr. Yan?" Zhao asked, looking at Yan Hui.

"No."

"No?" Zhao looked at Yan Hui with some surprise, then at the person next to him, and then back at Yan Hui. "Mr. Yan, are you very familiar with this case? Or is there something we don't know?"

“I was only on site for about 10 minutes today, and then I went to do my own thing. What could I possibly know?” Yan Hui retorted.

That's not what I meant; I was looking at you.

Before Zhao could finish speaking, he was interrupted by the person next to him: "Zhao, let's go."

"Mm." Zhao nodded and looked at Yan Hui. "Mr. Yan, we'll head out now."

"Feel free to contact me if you need anything." Yan Hui stood up.

A few minutes later, Yan Hui saw the two off, and less than two minutes later, Zhang Tiemin knocked on the door and came looking for him.

"Mr. Yan, you wanted to see me?" Zhang Tiemin said. Yan Hui had just said that all the office staff had left, and Zhang Tiemin knew that he meant for Yan Hui to stay.

"Hmm, who was that person who came with Director Zhao just now?" Yan Hui asked. Zhang was someone he had recruited from within the system. He was usually very low-key and had a relatively low profile, even less so than Qing Lan, the deputy director of the office. "His surname is Cao. He used to be the top official in charge of political and legal affairs in our district. Last year, he was transferred to a district in Linzi as the deputy district head, still in charge of political and legal affairs," Zhang Tiemin said.

"District? So it's not the county where our mine is located?"

"No."

"What do you think about this?" Yan Hui asked.

“President Yan, I’m not familiar with Cao. His presence here today is suspicious in itself. He should have introduced himself. Since he hasn’t revealed his identity, let’s just consider him an accomplice and not overthink it. From what I understand so far, quite a few people are going to be in trouble. At this critical juncture, it’s not appropriate for us to get involved,” Zhang Tiemin said.

"That's basically what I was thinking this afternoon." Yan Hui nodded. "With Cao's appearance, doesn't it trigger a recusal from jurisdiction?"

"Hmm, I think that might be true." Zhang Tiemin hadn't thought of that yet, but after hearing Yan Hui say that, he felt it made sense.

Let me briefly explain this matter.

Zhang Wei is very young. Leaders like him often possess strong iron-fisted abilities and powerful backgrounds. These people are generally driven by a desire to get things done and to achieve results. They dislike blemishes and crave tangible, verifiable achievements. The reason is simple: they don't want to stagnate at this level.

Therefore, Zhang Wei directly approached a local tile factory with sound financial standing and excellent business management, and then approached Yan Hui to discuss the mine. This indicates that Zhang Wei had already understood the problems with the mine and hoped to establish some kind of tacit understanding with Yan Hui.

This is, after all, a high-grade mine, and the government is unwilling to sell it at a low price. Zhang Wei is also unwilling. If Yan Hui wants to take it, he must pay the full price. This is something that Zhang Wei and Yan Hui had already "agreed upon".

This is a tacit understanding, and naturally, it is also a promise.

However, there will inevitably be a lot of resistance, both local and from other places. There have always been many people who want to take advantage of the situation to acquire state-owned assets at low prices, and there are also many who don't want their good days to be over.

Some people hope to acquire the mine at a low price, while others hope that the mine will fail to sell at auction.

Many of the out-of-towners who came today were genuinely interested in bidding, and their offers weren't low. Although all were below the planned price, the difference wasn't significant, clearly indicating multiple rounds of negotiation. If Yan Hui had followed his initial plan to lower the price, he certainly wouldn't have won the bid today.

Multiple external and local funds, plus a state-owned mining enterprise and its subcontractors, involved an unknown number of people.

Now that Yan Hui has successfully secured the mine, he has to back down; the events of this morning cannot be pursued further—this is a rule of the game. Simply put, if Yan Hui hadn't won the bid, he could have investigated this matter relentlessly, no matter how big the fuss. But not now.

So many people are watching him; at this moment, the winner must have the demeanor of a winner.

As for reason, when has reason ever been discussed in business?
"So what should I do next?" Zhang Tiemin asked.

"Keep a low profile, complete all the formalities after winning the bid, handle this matter officially, and wait for the relevant departments' investigation. In addition, prepare a banner in advance." Yan Hui thought for a moment, "Zhang Wei should contact me in a few days, and he should help clean up the mining area then. Since this happened today, it's a good thing for us. We can't let such a big advantage slip away."

"I understand. In that case, I will do things according to the plan set by General Manager Yan." Zhang Tiemin nodded. He had a clear understanding of what had happened today.
