Chapter 62 Brave
Chu Zihang pushed the door open and walked in. Two desk lamps divided the dormitory into a mixture of light and dark.
Finger was slumped in his swivel chair, the blue light of the LCD screen reflecting his distorted features. On the screen, severed limbs were flying with the buzzing of a chainsaw. He gasped and stuffed food into his mouth.
"I didn't expect you guys to be up at one." Chu Zihang glanced at his watch. His eyes swept over the pile of books that took up most of the desk. Gu Yi was resting his pen on his chin, the ancient scroll spread out before him almost drooping to the ground.
Finger yanked off his headphones. "Parasitic Junior Brother, you're finally back! This guy has been making such a fuss since eight o'clock and won't let me sleep at all!"
Gu Yi held up the yellowed parchment and asked, "Brother, did you know that Lionheart would send this?"
"I know. The president picked it up himself." Chu Zihang hung his school uniform jacket on the hanger.
"I see. Do you know what this is?"
"I don't know, but this item is stored in the deepest part of the Lionheart Club archives, and only the president can enter."
"No wonder, I was wondering why it smelled a bit moldy." Gu Yi smelled the parchment scroll.
Chu Zihang's eyes swept over the tilted tower of books on the oak tabletop. "What are these books for?"
"You don't know yet! This guy has been obsessed with Nibelungen recently. He just finished reading Master Flamel's manuscript and now he has set his sights on your old antique from the Lionheart Society. I think he not only wants to be S-level but also wants to be the King of Kassel. What is this? Better than you and more talented than you? Junior brother, can you leave a way out for others?" Finkel answered first.
"But it's in Latin, I can't read it, and it's difficult even with a dictionary." Gu Yi looked up.
Chu Zihang walked behind Gu Yi and said, "Latin is a 'dead language'. Grammar is very important. Words and sentences can be looked up in a dictionary anyway. You need Latin grammar."
"The problem is that I don't even know basic grammar. Do you know it, brother?"
"will not."
Gu Yi suddenly grabbed Finger who was about to slip towards the bed and said, "By the way, know-it-all. Do you know Latin grammar?"
Finger's pajamas collar was pulled askew. "Be gentle! I did learn some Latin before I was ten."
Gu Yi suddenly grabbed his wrist, his eyes sincere, "Then I'll leave it to you, Senior Brother."
"No! Do you know how to call me senior brother now?" Finger was like a cat whose tail was stepped on, his fur standing up. "I don't want to study with you! Just let me fall!"
"Didn't you let me enjoy my youth before? Help me translate these, and I can take you to Chicago next holiday. If you want to ride the Ferris wheel, I can also accompany you." Gu Yi shook the black card in his hand.
"Tom!" A hungry green light flashed in Finger's eyes. "Young people nowadays should have this kind of curiosity! Senior brother supports you this time!"
"By the way, Senior Brother," Gu Yi looked at Chu Zihang, "Can these documents be shown to anyone other than me?"
"Since there is no requirement, then it is assumed to be okay."
"That's good," Gu Yi immediately pushed the dictionary towards Chu Zihang, "Let's stay up all night tonight and work on it."
"Junior brother..." Finger said weakly, "It's already one o'clock now. Can't we work harder tomorrow morning? I haven't worked so hard in many years. Let me get used to it."
"I can't wait," Gu Yi shook his head. "I don't have classes tomorrow anyway, so I'll spend a lot of money to treat you two to a nice meal in Chicago."
"Give it to me!" Finkel snatched the pen and dipped it fiercely into the ink bottle. "I'm not going to live today!"
Chu Zihang silently turned the desk lamp up to level three. In the halo of the lamplight, the shadows of the three people crisscrossed and swayed on the wall, and from time to time, frantic curses could be heard.
The terrace on the top floor of the clock tower glowed coldly in the moonlight. The vice-principal sighed, "You gave him the violent blood after all?"
Ange's back leaned against the granite railing without moving, and the golden brown wine in the crystal glass reflected the starlight.
"He's a thoughtful child and knows how to use this gift." He took a sip of single malt whiskey, and the sound of ice cubes clinking was as crisp as the sound of swords.
"Ange, why are you so confident in him? Where does your confidence come from?"
"Shouldn't he?" Ange raised his eyebrows. "His record has surpassed half of the elites in the Executive Bureau."
"I never doubted his strength," the Vice Principal waved his hand irritably, "but violent blood is the key to Pandora's Box. Do you really believe he can suppress his thirst for power forever?"
The bottom of the glass hit the marble countertop, and Ange lowered his eyes to look at the moonlight reflected in the wine.
"he can."
"Why? Just based on your so-called intuition?"
"Because he's more attached to the mundane world than any of us," the principal suddenly chuckled, his eyes filled with the starlight of a century's worth of experience. "When a person is entangled by countless shackles, he's reluctant to fall into the abyss."
The Vice Principal rolled his eyes. "Power is the sweetest poison. How many dragon slayers have ultimately fallen under the power of violent blood? Otherwise, we wouldn't be managing it so strictly."
"Flamel." Ange suddenly turned around. "Flight always begins with a fall. This is true of life, and it's the same with Bloodthirst. The truly strong don't succumb to power, but rather harness it. The 'One' we need must be such a person."
"Enough, enough!" The Vice-Principal raised his hands and stepped back. "All of you Cambridge graduates should become charlatans! I just hope that kid doesn't turn into a fearless lunatic like you."
Ange raised his head and drank the remaining wine in the cup: "You are wrong. There has never been a fearless person. Because true courage." He looked at the crumbling stars at the end of the sky and murmured, "is always born after knowing what fear is. So we can only be brave when we are afraid."
The vice-principal stroked his beard and sighed, "Perhaps you're right. How's the investigation going?"
"That's exactly why I came here so late at night." He gazed at the campus below the bell tower. "Remember those 'civilians' who hunted down Gu Yi and Caesar?"
"Hasn't it been investigated long ago? They're from the South American 'Sinaloa Cartel.'" The Vice Principal took a swig from his hip flask. "The same criminal group that got their start smuggling cocaine into North America."
"They're not just dealing in drugs; they're also involved in the arms industry and have their own armed groups. According to satellite communications intercepted by Norma, they shot down a drug enforcement helicopter with an RPG in the suburbs of Medellin three weeks ago."
"That's normal. The tactical proficiency they displayed during the pursuit would make me believe they were the Navy SEALs! They persisted in the pursuit despite heavy casualties!" the vice-president sighed.
"Because they're true warriors." Ange pulled a document from his inner pocket. The photo on the front page showed a muscular soldier. "They're this elite unit known as the 'Red Python.' Every member is injected with a nerve agent called 'Fear Devourer.'"
The vice-principal gasped at the skyrocketing adrenaline levels. "Is this something they can have? This is an alchemy-level potion!"
"Yes, this potion, as its name suggests, can suppress fear to a certain extent, making people very excited."
"This is not something that a makeshift gang can do. They are just pawns pushed into the open, and there is someone else behind the scenes," said the vice-president.
"You're right." Ange's eyes were indifferent. "So tonight, thirteen task forces will simultaneously cut off their smuggling network in the Panama Canal. I believe we'll find out something."
