Chapter 32 3e Exam
The moment Gu Yi pushed the door open and entered, the clamor suddenly subsided like the receding tide. The setting sun shone through the stained glass windows, casting a golden glow over his shoulders. Twenty-six gazes enveloped him. "This is Gu Yi!" A suppressed exclamation came from the back row. "S-Class..."

Gu Yi ignored him, scanned the entire room and walked straight to his seat, but when his fingertips brushed across the screen saver of his phone, the ends of her crimson hair brushed across his desk.

"meet again."

Chen Motong leaned one arm against the edge of his desk, her long burgundy hair curling in a breathtaking arc at her waist. She wore a black off-the-shoulder sweater, and the silver four-leaf clover pendant on her collarbone rose and fell with her breathing, like a silver fish swimming in the dark night.

When Gu Yi looked up, he met her feline pupils. Those eyes, like rain-washed garnets, shone brightly. "Li Chengze didn't lie to me. You actually enrolled in the same grade as me."

"What a coincidence." Gu Yi twirled the pen.

Chen Motong turned and sat down like a lazy cat, the back of her chair leaning back with her weight, almost touching Gu Yi's exam table. "It's nice to meet someone I know in Kassel."

Gu Yi was a little surprised. "Aren't you from Tianji? You should know a lot of talented people."

"Because I am not from Tianji. Our Chen family is not affiliated with Tianji, we just have a cooperative relationship with Tianji." Chen Motong smiled.

"So there's no uniformity among the mixed-bloods in this country?"

Chen Motong nodded. "Yes, in fact, the secret party has not completely integrated the mixed-blood families in Europe. There are also other organizations in North America."

The pen suddenly stopped at his fingertips. Gu Yi looked out the window at the shadows cast by the trees. "It seems there are still many things I don't know."

"Let's talk about something practical." Chen Motong skipped the topic. "You've already awakened your bloodline, so have you ever experienced clairvoyance?"

Gu Yi shook his head, "I don't remember having that."

"I see, but I had clairvoyance when I was very young."

"So what did you see?"

"My mother was lying in bed when a shadowy figure came and took her soul away. She died."

Gu Yi was about to say something when the door suddenly opened. Professor Manstein entered from outside and glanced at his watch. "Everyone, please be present. Now, announce the exam rules!"

"Cheating is absolutely prohibited. Violators will be disqualified from all exams! Don't try to peek at other people's exams. The entire classroom is covered by cameras, leaving no blind spots! Don't try to bring any electronic communication devices. Radio waves are also monitored in the classroom! I know you are all geniuses, but I can tell you that people who are even more talented than you have taken exams in this classroom. Every cheating method you can think of now has been tried by others..."

"Now, turn off your cell phones and place them on the corner of your desks along with your student ID cards!" Professor Manstein slammed his palm on the podium. "This includes your personal stationery—only the exam papers and pencils provided by the college are allowed for this exam."

The copper pendulum of the old-fashioned wall clock swung behind him, and the ticking of the second hand suddenly became unusually clear. Chen Motong tilted her head and tucked her burgundy hair behind her ear. When her eyes swept over Gu Yi, she suddenly raised two fingers and shook them at her temple. "Good luck."

The roar of falling metal shutters drowned out the last sound. The sixteen stained-glass windows were sealed, and the xenon tubes in the dome lit up row by row, bathing the examination room in the cold light of an operating room. Invigilators in dark green uniforms moved between the desks, distributing A4 sheets of paper and sharpened HB pencils.

It's like a normal exam, but with one difference: the exam paper is blank.

All the freshmen were puzzled. This blank test paper was beyond everyone's expectations. Gu Yi frowned and raised his hand, "Professor, there's something wrong with the test paper."

Manstein had already retreated to the door with his group. "Just answer the questions. There's nothing wrong with the test. By the way, discussion is allowed, as long as you don't copy others' answers. Good luck to everyone." The moment the door closed, a guitar prelude flowed from a hidden speaker. Gu Yi had heard this song before: Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends."

"Did you hear that?" Chen Motong's voice seemed to come through the water curtain.

When Gu Yi turned his head, the girl's irises were undergoing a strange transformation. The original garnet-like crimson faded to a translucent amber, and fine golden sand swirled deep within her pupils like a startled nebula. Her long eyelashes fluttered slowly.

"It sounds like..."

Before he finished speaking, the entire exam room fell into an eerie silence. The petite girl clutching her teddy bear suddenly began tearing at it, sending cotton wool flying like snowflakes. The black boy with dreadlocks fell to the ground, his throat uttering staccato syllables. The Asian girl in the front row frantically scribbled with a pencil, the charcoal leaving dark red marks on the white paper.

Gu Yi tried to stand, but found his shadow strangely distorting. The marble patterns on the floor came alive, transforming into countless intertwined dragons and snakes. When he looked up at Chen Motong's seat, he saw only the empty table and chairs casting a double shadow under the xenon light, one of which was clearly the unfolding membrane wing.

Darkness descended at this moment.

-

In the monitoring room, Manstein was watching the 360-degree surveillance. Twenty-seven pairs of golden eyes on the screen lit up one after another like an alchemical matrix, but only Gu Yi sat with his eyes closed like an old monk in meditation.

The moment Guderian pushed open the door, the film printer was spitting out the candidate's vital data, and the paper tape was winding on the ground like a white snake.

"You don't want the exam room anymore?" Manstein stared at screen No. 3. Chen Motong was curling her knees up to her chest. This usually outspoken girl now looked like a stray cat drenched by rain.

"Everyone's busy!" Guderian waved his hand. "There's a kid in my exam room playing simulated basketball. He's asking for music while he plays, and he keeps saying 'Iron Mountain Lean'."

He leaned closer to the screen and asked, "Why hasn't Gu Yi responded yet?"

Manstein frowned. "It's impossible for him not to react, unless he is a descendant of the White King."

"Descendants of the White King? That's ridiculous, right?" Guderian widened his eyes.

The alarm suddenly sounded - Gu Yi opened his eyes.

Those weren't human pupils. Red-gold lines flowed across his irises like lava, and deep within his erect pupils danced a faint blue phosphorescence, as if trapping both the sunset and the aurora within a single, imaginary space. The xenon lamps hanging from the dome exploded one after another, the flying glass shards vaporizing into crystal dust the moment they touched his hair.

The Indian girl who was performing a ritual dance suddenly froze, her golden eyes extinguished like a candle in the wind; the boy who was painting with a pen stared blankly at his fingertips, and everyone came out of the clairvoyance state one by one, because some kind of eternal pressure flooded the examination room like a tide.

"Evacuate! Everyone evacuate!" Manstein roared and broke open the classroom door. The red light of the alarm cast his distorted shadow on the stained glass.

Students stumbled out of the classroom, Chen Motong trailing behind. Turning back, he saw Gu Yi lazily propping up his chin. The young man crossed his legs, a pencil spinning a silver arc between his fingers, humming a melody that perfectly matched Green Day's masterpiece.

"Interesting." She licked her fangs, and when she turned around, her long wine-red hair swept across the door frame like a farewell flag.
