Chapter 17 CC
The metal door closed behind Chen Motong, and the cold white light from the corridor frosted her red hair. Li Chengze leaned against the fire hydrant in the corridor, the pen twirling between his fingers suddenly stopping. "Nono, what's going on?"

The girl's smile, reflected in the tempered glass, was sly. "Why are you pretending? There are at least five pinholes in that room. I only burned the most obvious one, simply to make him relax a little."

The pen clicked into his suit pocket. Li Chengze pulled out his PDA and opened the encrypted interface. "What are the results of the profile?"

Chen Motong suppressed his cynical expression. "On a cognitive level, he really doesn't know anything about the history of the dragon race, the system of word spirits, the society of mixed-bloods, and so on. But he still has some reservations about us, and of course there are some things he simply doesn't want to talk about."

"Normal." Li Chengze's pupils reflected the blue light of the PDA. "If I open my heart now—"

"That's the idiot we need to be wary of," Chen Motong replied smoothly. "So, what are you going to do with this S-rank? Letting a hybrid with Time Zero loose in human society"—her red eyes suddenly narrowed dangerously. "It's like burying an atomic bomb in a busy city."

"The school administration department has packed up his secondary school file, and the principal's special expedited permission is going through the process."

"You're going to start school at the same time as me?" Chen Motong's canvas shoes suddenly bumped against his shiny leather shoes. "When did you become so impatient? He's not even an adult yet..."

"Age isn't a problem." Li Chengze turned toward the floor-to-ceiling window at the end of the corridor. Neon lights cut a line between light and dark on his face. In the distance, the LED curtain wall of the CBD building was playing a jewelry advertisement.

Chen Motong followed his gaze, the diamond light flickering in the night. "What about what he and Chu Zihang reported? There's such a large Nibelungen in this city! You know what that means? There must be pure-blooded dragons here."

Li Chengze said calmly: "We know."

-

Ice, endless ice.

Gu Yi stood on the dark blue ice. The veins of extreme cold spread like a spiderweb beneath his feet. As far as the eye could see, the ice and the sky merged into a silver-blue arc. No wind brushed his ears, no snowflakes clung to his eyelashes. The entire wasteland seemed like a dead object embedded in black jade. Even more strange, Gu Yi didn't feel cold.

He rolled over the soles of his shoes, and the ice made a crackling sound.

"Dream?"

The whisper that rolled out of his throat shattered in the solidified air.

"It's just a dream." The clear and cool ending tone pierced the silence, and the black hair brushed across his face like ink-colored silk.

The girl seemed like a spirit emerging from the ice, with waist-length black hair falling like ink, the hem of her overly loose men's shirt hanging at her knees, and her exposed calves were dazzlingly white.

Gu Yi calmly took a half step back. In the reflection of the ice, the corners of the girl's eyes curved into cunning crescents.

"Mr. Gu is much cuter when she's angry than when she's stern." She spun barefoot on the ice, tiny frost flowers blooming where her transparent toes touched. "Would you like a bedtime story?"

"The last time I saw you was on the way to record your statement," Gu Yi's voice was colder than ice. "Why didn't you let me tell Li Chengze and the others what that man said?"

Suddenly, ripples appeared on the ice. Without warning, the girl leaned closer, her long black hair brushing against Gu Yi's neck, exuding a cool fragrance. Her eyelashes almost brushed against his jaw.

"You're so tall." The girl stood on tiptoe, and the white mist from her breath condensed into fine ice sand, falling on Gu Yi's collar.

Gu Yi took a step back, and the soles of his boots rubbed against the ice, making a short hissing sound.

"answer the questions."

"How boring!" the girl suddenly slumped backward onto the ice, her swaying ankles reflected in the blue-black ice. "I'm not letting you talk for your own good. You're already suspicious enough in their eyes, why add to their suspicions?"

"What are you doubting me about?"

The girl tilted her head and chuckled. "Why are you asking me if you know this? Honestly, you think you're suspicious yourself."

"Then do you know the truth about what happened to me?"

The girl shook her head. "I don't know."

"lie."

"All beautiful women lie."

"So you admit it?" "Then guess whether this is a lie or not."

"Does my grandfather know the truth?" Gu Yi suddenly asked. A slight cracking sound came from deep in the ice field, as if someone had stepped on a frozen branch and broken it.

The girl's wobbling ankles suddenly stopped. She leaned over and peered into the deep blue beneath the ice. "A small part."

"So that's why he's been unconscious," he said in a declarative tone, "someone doesn't want him to wake up."

The girl's fingertips traced hexagonal frost patterns on the ice. "Your past is now completely shrouded in mystery." She suddenly scraped her nails against the ice, making a teeth-grinding crunching sound. "The one who created this situation loves to watch their prey get bruised and bloodied in the glass maze."

“Is this you?”

"No, if it were me, I would hide your grandpa."

"Who is that?" Gu Yi's question echoed across the sky and earth, turning into sobs. "The man in the suit?"

"I do not know."

"That's another lie."

"Maybe."

"Then let me ask one last question—" Gu Yi suddenly grabbed her wrist, and the ice surface suddenly cracked under their feet. The girl stumbled to her feet as he pulled her. "Am I related to Grandpa by blood?"

The cold fragrance of camellia suddenly became strong. The girl looked up at the boy, and Gu Yi saw his golden eyes reflected in her pupils.

"It depends on your perspective, Gu Yi," the girl replied. "It depends on whether you think the inheritance of bloodline or the inheritance of spirit is more important."

Gu Yi did not answer, "I am indeed not his biological grandson. All the suffering he is going through now is caused by me."

The whimper of a shifting glacier echoed in the distance. Gu Yi's knuckles turned pale from the exertion, and the girl's wrist bones crackled softly in his palm, as if he were clutching a jade bracelet carved from a thousand-year-old ice core.

The girl's other hand touched Gu Yi's head. "Don't take all the responsibility on yourself, kid. You didn't bring these things upon him. They were his own choice. He knew all the risks when he accepted you."

Gu Yi lowered his head and said nothing.

"Oh, that's enough!" The girl rubbed Gu Yi's head fiercely, "Let's think about something happy. You can finally enter Kassel now."

Gu Yi tilted his head to break away from the overly intimate touch. "Kassel? Where is that?"

"Where your friend Chu Zihang is going is where you should go too."

"What's there to be happy about?"

"Because only there can you become stronger quickly, and you need the resources of Kassel." The girl looked at her hand that was still being held and spoke lightly.

"Getting stronger quickly? Is something urgent going to happen?"

The girl's fingertips touched his forehead. "Gu Yi, do you think you're still heading into the storm?" She sighed. "Look at your feet. We've already been in the storm."

The ice sheet suddenly rippled like water, and the girl's voice, wrapped in tiny ice crystals, trembled in the air: "It's almost time. Please change your habit of sleeping in. Cassel requires students to wake up early."

Gu Yi was slowly sinking as the ice became transparent. "Wait!" He suddenly clasped the girl's wrist, which was disappearing. "What should I call you?"

"What do you want to call me?" The girl's blurry face was iridescent in the morning light: "Just call me"

"CC!"

Chu Zihang's hand froze in mid-air as he tried to open the curtain. "What's CC?"

Gu Yi turned over and sat up, and saw the rising sun stuck in the corner of the window, like a molten gold fireball nailed to a cross.
