Hogwarts: Don't call me Wandmaker

Chapter 42 Christmas Chapter

Chapter 42 Christmas

Harry always thought that he knew enough about magic and wizards.

From the owl that could deliver letters, to Hagrid appearing in the seaside cottage, to Diagon Alley, Platform 9, Hogwarts... Harry became more and more calm, and he thought he had gradually become familiar with everything in the wizarding world.

But now he suddenly felt that he knew nothing about magic, and didn't even recognize a wand.

"That's obviously a baseball bat, right?" Harry looked at Ron blankly after Ciarán left the common room.

In a trance, he recalled what Xi Lun said to him yesterday afternoon... "There is still a two and a half foot wand that is not finished, but it can be taken for pre-order."

So that's it?

Harry didn't think Siren would joke with him about such a thing, and he tried to associate the words "feet" and "wand" together, but he couldn't.

"I bet Siren was kidding us just now," said Ron.

Unlike Harry, he knows more about magic, and many of his cognitions have long become fixed common sense.

In his opinion, magic wands should be the same as the ones they use now, with the length being the only difference. Because everyone around him uses them the same way, without exception.

So Ron didn't believe that the two-foot-long baseball bat was a magic wand from the beginning, and just thought that Xi Lun was teasing them.

"Want to play wizard chess?" Ron asked after finishing the last bite of grilled mushrooms.

"Oh, okay," said Harry. His head was spinning and he needed something to distract himself.

"But Ron, I've never played that wizard chess before."

"It's okay, I can teach you. It's very simple." Ron took out a tattered old chess board and demonstrated to Harry how to make the chess pieces move.

It's just like Muggle chess, but the pieces are alive and have their own ideas, which is very interesting. It feels like commanding an army into battle.

Harry quickly became addicted to the game, but his skills were poor, and he always lost to Ron. Finally, even the Queen on his side couldn't stand it anymore, so she swung her cane and hit Harry's finger hard.

"Oops..."

Harry's fingers immediately turned red and he cried in pain, but the Queen beside him continued to curse angrily.

"Stupid, dumb, empty-headed mountain troll!"

This is probably the shortcoming of Wizard Chess, the chess pieces have really bad tempers.

At the same time, Xi Lun had also arrived at Hagrid's cabin.

He knocked on the door, but didn't hear Hagrid's familiar loud voice.

"Is there no one here?" Xi Lun waited for a while, but there was still no movement in the cabin. He was sure that Hagrid was not at home.

I guess he went to Hogsmeade to drink.

Hagrid did have the habit of going to Hogsmeade for a drink or two on weekdays, and many professors did the same. Today was the first day of the school holiday, and it was snowing, so it was a rare good day, and Hagrid naturally would not miss it.

But Xilun's trip was in vain. He had to come here in the snow and walk back to the castle in the snow.

He had wanted to make the wand today, but now he would have to wait until tomorrow.

Xi Lun did not choose to use the unlocking spell directly to enter, even though this was just a small problem that could be solved by raising his hand, and even if Hagrid knew it, he would not mind, but he still did not do it.

The Christmas holiday had just begun, so he was in no hurry.

Wait until the afternoon.

"Of course I'm worried!" Harry paced back and forth in Siren's dormitory, glancing out the window every few seconds. "Tomorrow is Christmas, and I haven't prepared anything. If Hedwig doesn't come back, I can only give Ron a bag of Bibi Every Flavour Beans."

"That's all very well," said Siren, "but where did you buy those Every Flavour Beans that the seniors brought from Hogsmeade?"

"No, I bought it on the train," said Harry.

"Train?" Xi Lun asked in surprise, "Hogwarts Express?"

"Yeah." Harry nodded.

"You haven't finished eating the candy you bought for the start of school yet?"

"Because I don't like candy that tastes like shoe polish, I haven't eaten it since."

"Then you're really nice to Ron." Siren smacked his lips.

"Of course... Oh, no." Harry nodded subconsciously, then hurriedly changed his words, "I didn't want to give him Bibi Every Flavour Beans as a Christmas present. I wanted to give him a wand!"

"I know, you don't have to explain to me." Xi Lun waved his hand, "But I can't do anything if Hedwig can't come back. You know, the wand shop doesn't have much business except during the first few days of school.

"You can't let my grandfather sit in an empty shop all day and do nothing, right?"

"No, of course that's not what I meant." Harry shook his head quickly. "I'm just a little anxious. Ron really wants a wand of his own."

"Don't worry," Siren said, "Tomorrow is Christmas. There's still time. You should trust Hedwig."

Now it seems that Hedwig is the only one we can trust.

Harry waited until very late, tossing and turning in bed, unable to sleep. He only hoped that Hedwig would come back before tomorrow morning to give Ron a surprise, and then they could have a big meal and have some fun.

Harry waited until the early morning, but Hedwig still didn't come back. He was too sleepy, his consciousness began to blur, and he fell into a dream.

The next day, Christmas arrived as scheduled.

Xi Lun didn't get up too early. He waited until nine o'clock before getting out of bed and starting to unpack a pile of packages at the foot of the bed.

There were quite a few gifts. Xi Lun roughly counted them and found that there were more than a dozen in total, twice as many as last year.

He first set his sights on the largest paper package.

The thick kraft paper, the rough packaging method, and the flamboyant handwriting, Xi Lun didn't even need to look at the name to know it was from Hagrid.

There were a lot of things inside, but the most eye-catching thing was a handful of long, silver unicorn tail hairs, each of which was more than fifteen inches long and was the highest grade unicorn tail hair.

Xi Lun estimated that even his grandfather Garrick Ollivander might not have seen so many high-quality goods at one time.

I don't know how long Hagrid searched in the Forbidden Forest before he collected this one.

In addition, there were two pitch-black legs stuffed in the brown paper bag.

Hagrid had brought this thing to Xi Lun before. It was the leg of an eight-eyed giant spider, but this time it was obviously longer than the previous ones. If it was fully stretched, it would be at least ten feet long.

No wonder the packaging is so big...if it's smaller, it won't fit in.
But with each leg being ten feet long, it's hard to imagine how big this thing must have been when it was alive.

Xi Lun continued to look through the things below, but suddenly heard Ron's incoherent screams coming from not far away next door.

"Oh my God! A wand! Harry, you actually gave me a new wand... I'm so happy... Is it really for me... This is the best Christmas present I've ever received!"
