Secret World: I Became a God Through Lies
Chapter 54: The Door of Sleep
Chapter 54: The Door of Sleep
"The sea breeze continues to blow, the murderous intent lingers, fate surges like a wave, and they have no way to retreat."
"When the door opens, will it lead to salvation, or an even more absurd abyss?"
The night was still heavy, the sound of the harbor's tide was drowned out by gunfire and low spells, and the air was filled with the damp smell of blood.
Calvino and Lilia stood in the shadows, their backs against the wall, facing the black-robed man who was slowly approaching from the front.
His smile was as deep as the night itself, and with a slight lift of his fingertips, he set off a tide of death.
"Come out." His voice was calm, but like an undercurrent surging in the deep sea.
A vast expanse of blue light and shadow suddenly appeared on the street, like waves surging in the night. Calvino's pupils shrank slightly.
As light and shadow intertwined, black cracks appeared on the ground, and skeleton warriors in tattered pirate uniforms climbed out from the depths.
Their bones were pitch black, with blue phosphorescence burning in their eye sockets. They held rusty scimitars and muskets tightly in their hands.
The tattered clothes still had the stains of wet sea water on them, and a smell of decay and dampness swept across the entire street.
These dead seemed to emerge from the bottom of the sea, carrying the curse of time and the resentment of the old battlefield. They stepped silently onto the stone road and surrounded the brother and sister.
Without hesitation, Calvino raised his gun and fired. The fire exploded in the darkness, and the bullet pierced through the three nearest skeletons.
The bones suddenly shattered and scattered, turning into wisps of black smoke.
However, the broken bones did not fall to the ground, but circled and condensed in the air, and recovered as before in just one second. The phosphorous fire leaped again, and the skeleton warriors continued to approach them without any damage.
"Damn it." Calvino cursed softly, immediately changed the bullet, leaned forward slightly, and was ready to meet the impact at any time.
Lilia's sword flashed through the darkness following the sound of gunfire. Her figure passed through the group of skeletons like a ghost. The double-edged sword flashed with cold light, and she accurately cut off the heads of three skeletons.
However, the head did not shatter when it fell to the ground. Instead, it dissipated like mist and instantly reshaped itself at the neck of the skull. The burning phosphorescent fire once again lit up the night.
"They are not real." Lilia whispered, a trace of cold sweat seeping from her forehead, but her hand holding the knife tightened.
"Only one of them must be real. The others...are just projections."
Calvino dodged a scimitar and shot a skeleton in the shoulder with a backhand shot.
He said in a deep voice: "But we don't have time to find out which one is true."
In the distance, towards the port, fires flickered, and the pirates who were chasing them had turned back.
The man in black robe stood in the middle of the street, looking down at this unequal hunt with a playful look.
His cloak fluttered slightly in the night wind, and a cruel smile appeared on the corner of his mouth. "Haha, do you still want to continue struggling?"
His voice was low, like the sound of the sea waves gently hitting the rocks, leisurely and cold. He was not in a hurry to attack, but quietly admired the process of his prey being forced into a desperate situation.
Calvino did not respond, his eyes quickly scanning the surroundings, trying to find any flaws that could be exploited.
Lilia was also observing the battlefield. Her eyes inadvertently swept across the ground, and her pupils shrank slightly.
She saw the door.
Just below the sewer they had just escaped from, a strange iron door was floating in the black water, with the door frame partially soaked in sewage.
Mottled inscriptions covered the surface, carrying an aura that did not belong to this world.
It is not abrupt, but rather seems to have been lurking there, waiting to be opened at some point.
Lilia's heart tightened, and she quickly gestured to Calvino, asking him to look at the water.
Calvino followed her guidance and his breathing paused slightly.
He knows what it is.
In this world, if you open an unknown door without knowing its name, it may lead to another world.
Another reality, even an unpredictable abyss.
But they have no choice.
Lilia's eyes were determined, and she extended her hand to Calvino without hesitation.
"Believe me."
Calvino took a deep breath and squeezed her hand.
"Jump."
They jumped into the sewer almost at the same time, black water splashed everywhere, and the sharp blades of the pirate undead cut through the air almost at the moment they disappeared, and landed on the ground where they had just stood!
The black-robed man's expression changed slightly, and a cold light flashed in his eyes. Without hesitation, he immediately jumped into the waterway and chased the two men.
However, the moment he touched the water, Calvino had already reached out to turn the door handle.
The suction of the door suddenly exploded, and the air seemed to stagnate.
The next second, darkness opened wide like a giant beast, swallowing everything.
They are falling.
A dizzying feeling of confusion swept over their bodies, and Calvino and Lilia tumbled rapidly in the disordered space, as if being dragged into a twisted vortex by some indescribable existence.
The surrounding scene was sometimes bright and sometimes dark, like the bottom of the deep sea or the fog in a strong wind. Time and space seemed to be completely distorted.
Lilia's fingertips instinctively wanted to grab something, but she could not grab anything. All she could hear was the whistling of the wind in her ears and her heart beating so violently that it seemed like it was about to burst through her chest.
Calvino's breathing was rapid. He tried to control his body, but this invisible force did not give him any chance to adjust his posture.
They lose all sense of direction until—BOOM!
A violent collision suddenly occurred, and Lilia felt her eyes go dark, and her body was stopped by something soft but full of rebound force.
She groaned, and before she could figure out what was happening, she heard a painful groan.
"Uh-huh!"
With a gasp, she realized that she was lying on top of someone.
Lights, noise, glittering gambling tables... where is this?
"Damn...what is it this time?!" A resentful whisper came from under her.
Lilia sat up suddenly, looked back, and met a pair of eyes filled with confusion and anger.
The man she knocked down didn't look old, and even had a bit of... fatigue from being plagued by bad luck?
But at this moment, his face was deathly still, and the corners of his mouth twitched slightly, as if he had encountered the disaster that he least wanted to face in his life.
She spoke in a panic, apologizing very quickly: "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I - can we compensate?"
boom!
Another figure fell down right after.
Calvino's strike landed with incredible precision, hitting the man's outstretched hand accurately.
What's worse is that he was still covered in sewage, and at the moment of impact, the sewage splashed unreservedly onto the poker cards in the man's hand.
The damp and foul smell quickly spread, and the gamblers around took a step back, their expressions gradually changing from shock to suppressed laughter.
The air seemed to freeze at that moment.
Siming looked down at his hand of cards that were about to win the huge prize pool. At this moment, they had been ruined and were blurred.
The soaked paper crumpled into a ball, and the colorful symbols that were once clearly visible on it completely collapsed, turning into a blurry stain.
He froze completely, as if his soul had been drained away in an instant.
The entire casino fell into an eerie silence.
The dealer still held a few undealt cards in his hand, his mouth twitching slightly, his eyes shifting between Siming and the two uninvited guests.
Finally, he coughed hard, trying to break the deadlock.
"Uh... sir, your cards..."
"Stop talking." Siming slowly raised his head, his face so gloomy that it seemed as if ink could drip out.
Lilia quickly stood up and helped Calvino up in a panic, and Calvino's first reaction was to quickly look around.
The magnificent hall, the gamblers in luxurious clothes, the gambling tables piled with gold coins and chips, and the huge crystal chandeliers flashing everywhere...this was obviously not a place they were familiar with.
They seemed to have strayed into a completely unfamiliar world.
But compared to everything around him, Calvino was more concerned about the man in front of him who looked a little "unlucky".
His eyes were calm and dangerous, with a hint of the sophistication that only a gambler could have, but also with an indescribable fatigue.
More importantly...the girl just now mentioned "compensation"?
Siming took a deep breath, his eyes slowly shifting from the pile of completely scrapped cards to Calvino, his voice low and dangerous.
"Friend, I think we need to talk about compensation."
Calvino frowned, his intuition telling him that this man was not an ordinary gambler, and even this place was not as simple as an ordinary casino.
However, before he could open his mouth, he heard the gamblers around him finally burst into laughter.
A wealthy businessman in a suit and tie laughed heartily and slapped the table, saying:
"This is truly the most bizarre piece of bad luck I've ever seen, Mr. Siming, you really are still the same Siming!"
The other noblewoman chuckled softly, covering her mouth. "Finally, I'm not affected by your bad luck today... but I can't say for sure about these two unlucky guys."
"Maybe they're the ones who are even more unlucky? They fell straight from the sky, and even their clothes are so... unique."
A businessman in satin looked meaningfully at the stains on Calvino and Lilia's bodies, and his smile deepened.
The corners of Siming's mouth twitched slightly, and he wailed in his heart.
Why is it that every time he thinks his luck has reached its worst, something new bad happens?
He had originally intended to use this evening's good fortune to repay a little of his recent "bad luck debt", but...
First, two people suddenly fell from the sky, and then the big card in his hand that was about to turn the tables was directly destroyed by sewage.
That’s not all. The most fatal thing is that he feels like he might be caught up in a storm that doesn’t belong to him.
He slowly held his forehead and tried to calm himself down.
Lilia still hadn't figured out the situation, so she could only cautiously pull Calvino back a step and whispered:
"Brother...are we in trouble again?"
Calvino narrowed his eyes slightly, glanced around cautiously, and replied in a low voice: "It's not just trouble, it may be worse than we imagined."
Siming finally adjusted his expression, took a deep breath, revealed a fake smile, and slowly said:
"Okay, now, can you tell me first - who are you?"
Laughter still echoed in the casino.
And at this moment, the gears of fate quietly turned over and entered a new trajectory.
Thanks to Longfeng Pokong and Hongxia Feiyu for their rewards
