Chapter 17 A fierce battle

The sound of artillery fire rose and fell, and orange mushroom clouds bloomed and disappeared in the blink of an eye on the battlefield.

However, when it blooms, the spores it sprays out instantly kill the exposed mortals around it.

This terrifying firepower forced even Quan Tiehua, a Space Marine, to cower in a bunker to avoid the barrage.

Don't be fooled by the Space Marines' strength; they only possess overwhelming power in individual combat and with some light weapons. When it comes to heavy weapons, a single rocket could probably kill them.

Therefore, faced with the overwhelming artillery fire, Quan Tiehua dared not stand up and act like a heroic individualist.

Hiding beside him were several mortal support soldiers and local PDFs. Leaving aside the mortal support soldiers who followed the warband...

But the calm expressions on these PDFs' faces as they smoked were already comparable to those of most of the Star Guardians.

Having endured several brutal battles, they had long since become numb to death. Having faced the Chaos Demon head-on, they were well aware of the fate that awaited them after the fight.

So none of this matters to them anymore.

If it weren't for their wives, children, and families, and the fact that their nests were being evacuated, they would probably have already broken down.

Because their planetary governor had personally told them the whole story. Rather than being executed by the court in the end without any explanation, it was better to face death clearly from the beginning.

Moreover, even the planetary governor, who is already quite old, has personally come to the front lines and fought alongside them. What else can they say?

Meanwhile, in the hive city behind the planet, the governor's family was also making arrangements for the evacuation of women and children.

Furthermore, given the planetary governor's usual protection of these ordinary soldiers and civilians, there was nothing to complain about. Therefore, it would be truly inappropriate to make any unrealistic demands or take any actions that might be considered unreasonable.

"The enemy has attacked."

The artillery fire abruptly ceased, and the next second a furious shout echoed throughout the trench. Then came more shouts, one after another.

The older-looking PDF next to Quan Tiehua put down his cigarette, stomped it out, and slowly stood up. He then picked up his laser gun, lay prone on the cover, and aimed at the enemy who was about to enter his firing range.

Quan Tiehua also stood up and observed the attacking Chaos Traitors. He did not take advantage of his height to expose his entire upper body.

The trenches, now rearranged by Tyrth, could easily accommodate Astartes. Even a Proto-Forged Space Marine like himself could fit inside.

"Tilt truly lives up to his reputation as the son of an Iron Warrior. This fortification is perfect," he exclaimed, then cautiously peeked out with only half his head showing.

Even his nose was below the cover of the defensive fortifications.

He wouldn't even stick his head out unless it was necessary to scout out enemy positions.

The smoke from the explosion obscured everything, making it impossible to see any enemy activity. However, the auxiliary system in the Astartes' helmet allowed them to pierce through the fog and easily spot the silent, secret troop of traitors who were gathering and charging towards them.

But... to his dismay, the charging troops were all naked, or rather, covered in tattered pieces of cloth.

Some people even thrust their hips forward there.

...like a whip, it lashes up and down, making a cracking sound.

They carried some sacrilegious weapons. And those whose clothes were partially obscured by scraps of cloth, they remained calm and composed, as if they were leaders among their group.

It was truly an eyesore. Even Quan Tiehua couldn't help but shrink back into the trench at this moment, lowering his head and removing his helmet. He pinched his brows, closed his eyes tightly, and tried to relieve the discomfort. "Damn it. It's really an eyesore."

After a short while, the sounds of laser gunfire began to rise and fall around them. Some of the soldiers with better marksmanship then began to measure the distance in advance.

Hearing the sound of laser guns firing, I couldn't help but sigh. Even the Empire's Astral Lord wields what are called flashlights; what chance do these PDFs have?

I stood up and picked up the M2 Carl-type bomb gun. After selecting a target, I pulled the trigger.

Astartes' reaction speed and aiming speed were fully demonstrated at this moment.

The bomb gun's extremely long range allowed it to precisely pick off the Chaos traitors who charged forward. The rapid trigger pulls and muzzle movements made it appear to the surrounding mortals as if a heavy machine gun was firing continuously.

In the distance, amidst the densely packed, snow-white crowd of blasphemous traitors, brilliant bursts of crimson blood erupted instantly.

This is how the battle begins.

Tens of thousands of chaotic mortal traitors charged toward the front lines. They even advanced in a more blasphemous manner.

Four or five men and women danced and twisted like monsters as they attacked this place.

Quan Tiehua took the plasma pistol from his waist and fired a loyal plasma shot that sent him directly back to Slaanesh's palace.

The intensity of the war continued to escalate, and the Chaos traitors seized control of heavy industrial production areas. Over time, a wide variety of heavy firepower was produced.

The empire has begun to fall into a disadvantageous position.

In the warp, on that crimson earth, the towering figure of the bronze throne seemed to be savoring some supreme delicacy.

He took a deep breath.

"Special souls. A battle worth watching."

Below, tens of thousands of crimson two-horned demons raised their weapons and shouted, "Blood sacrifice to the Blood God, skull offering to the skull seat!"

……

The battle has already begun inside the hive. After several days of holding out outside, the personnel inside the hive have finally been able to evacuate almost completely.

Apart from a few personnel left behind for combat readiness and those urgently needed for weapons and equipment manufacturing, the entire nest had become a dead city.

Everyone assumed their mission was over once the personnel inside the hive were safely evacuated. However, they hadn't anticipated that the entire warp's attention would now be focused on this planet.

Even if the civilians are safely evacuated, where can they be evacuated to? There is no support coming from the surrounding area.

The only option was to evacuate these civilians to agricultural areas in the Southern Hemisphere. However... the power of the warp had also begun to slowly infiltrate this area.

With a sneeze from an infected person, saliva mixed with germs was sprayed onto the ripe grain that was being harvested.

A sudden plague broke out within just a few days.
