Chapter 83 The "Benefit" Has Been Effective
Chapter 83 (10th update) The "favor" has taken effect
Andre looked around and lowered his voice:
"Cynthia has become unusually quiet recently, which is very unusual. As far as I know, she has always been a vindictive person."
Ron let Andre into the house and closed the door: "Are you worried that she is planning something in secret?"
"It's very likely." Andre nodded. "What worries me more is that she's said to be very close to Oliver recently."
"Oliver?" Ron frowned even more deeply. "Marcus's brother who's good at curses?"
"That's right." Andre took out a note from his pocket. "This is the news my spy sent me last night. Cynthia went to Oliver's laboratory and didn't come back all night..."
Ron took the note, glanced at it quickly, and said solemnly: "This is indeed not good news, but the only thing we can do now is to speed up our pace."
Andre nodded. "Of course I understand. I've been busy preparing for the Bloodline Awakening Ceremony lately. By the way, how are your exam preparations going?"
"It went pretty smoothly." Ron pointed to the notes and recipes spread out on the table:
"Mrs. Allen provided some key suggestions, and I've become proficient in preparing most potions that may appear in the assessment."
As he was speaking, there was another knock on the door.
"Who?" Ron asked warily.
"It's me, Norris." The voice outside the door was a little hurried: "Captain Holt asked me to deliver a letter to you."
Ron and Andre exchanged a look, then cautiously opened the door.
Norris stood at the door, holding a tightly sealed letter in his hand: "The captain asked me to hand this to you personally. It said it is about your Potions Master certification test."
Ron took the letter, thanked him, closed the door, and quickly opened the envelope.
"From Lord Holt?" Andre came closer curiously.
Ron nodded and quickly read the contents of the letter. His brows furrowed at first, then slowly relaxed.
"Holt told me that he received information that my examiner is likely to be Master Magnus, who is good at identifying the purity and stability of potions."
"That's great news!" Andre patted Ron's shoulder excitedly. "Master Magnus is known for his fairness and won't be influenced by external factors."
Ron nodded, and silently remembered Holt's help again in his heart:
"Yes, this means I only need to ensure the quality of the potion is good enough and don't have to worry about other interfering factors."
"Then I should take my leave and not disturb you from continuing to prepare for the exam."
Andre stood up and added before leaving, "By the way, if you need any auxiliary materials, just let me know. I haven't used up all the favors I've accumulated with the gray dwarf Otto yet, so I can exchange them for some stockpiled medicinal herbs at a low price."
After seeing Andre off, Ron carefully put the letter away, took out a list of materials, and prepared to go to Mrs. Allen to ask some questions that had been piling up recently.
When he pushed open the door of the herbal medicine store, the wind chimes made a crisp sound, but he did not see Mrs. Allen's hunched figure.
The lighting in the store was dimmer than usual, and the air was filled with a slightly familiar rich aroma, somewhat like tuberose, but with a sweeter flavor.
"You came at the perfect time, Ron boy."
A female voice that seemed a little strange compared to usual came from the inner room. The tone was hoarse, which was unique to Mrs. Allen, but it was also a little lighter.
Ron looked in the direction of the voice and saw the beautiful witch in silk nightgown again, standing behind the counter sorting herbs.
Her long pink and purple hair cascading down like a waterfall sparkled dreamily in the light, her skin was as white as jade, and her big, bright eyes sparkled like gems.
"Ma'am, have you reached those days again this month?"
Ron couldn't help but blurt out. Although he already knew that Mrs. Allen would regain her youthful appearance when the magic fluctuations were strongest every month, he was still a little surprised to witness this contrast again.
The pink-haired witch chuckled softly, that slightly sarcastic, old laugh that was unique to Mrs. Allen. "Why, are you always surprised to see me like this?" She removed a small flower from her hair and casually tucked it behind her ear. This unconscious action made the young man look at her twice more unconsciously.
"Okay, let's get down to business. You came to me at this time, probably because of the assessment."
"Yes, ma'am." Ron came back to his senses and placed the list of ingredients on the counter. "I'd like to ask a few questions about the stability of the sobriety potion."
Mrs. Allen put down her work, moved a little closer, and looked closely into Ron's eyes.
At this distance, although he was stung by the radiation from the other person, he could smell a strange fragrance that was like a flower but not a flower.
"You haven't slept much in several days, right?"
She frowned slightly, and subtly restrained the strong radiation field that she unconsciously emitted.
"Although he looks energetic, the exhaustion he feels from the inside out is undeniable."
Ron was slightly stunned, then smiled bitterly: "You can see that I've been practicing various formulas these days and really haven't had much rest."
Mrs. Allen was silent for a moment, her slender fingers tapping the table. After thinking for a few seconds, she turned and walked towards the inner room: "Follow me."
Ron followed her into a small, elegantly decorated room furnished with a coffee table and several lounge chairs.
Mrs. Allen motioned him to sit down while she deftly opened a carved wooden box and took out a small crystal bottle.
"Drinking this will make your mind clearer." She handed the bottle to Ron, her long eyelashes casting a shadow on her delicate face.
"But remember, this isn't a long-term solution. Overdrawing your mental strength will always come at a price."
Ron took the vial gratefully: "Thank you, ma'am."
After he finished the identification, he took a careful sip and immediately felt a cool energy flowing from his throat straight to his brain. His original fatigue dissipated instantly and his mind became unusually sharp.
"This is."
"A compound potion of moonlight extract and soul flower, a formula I improved myself."
The witch gently twirled a strand of pink-purple hair between her fingers. "Okay, tell me your problem."
"Regarding the stability of the sobering potion," Ron found the relevant page from his notes:
"I noticed that when adding Stardust Pollen, if the temperature is even slightly higher, it will cause the potion to deteriorate. Is there any way to increase its heat resistance?"
Mrs. Allen nodded slightly, with a glint of approval in her eyes:
"That's a good question. The traditional formula does have this drawback, but if you pre-mix three drops of moon dew into the stardust pollen, it can significantly improve its stability."
Ron "Moon Dew" thought for a moment and quickly wrote down this key tip in his notes.
"One more thing," Mrs. Allen continued, leaning forward, her graceful collarbone faintly visible:
"Magnus should prefer potions with even colors. You can consider the properties of silver tree roots."
Ron looked up in surprise. "You also knew that Master Magnus would be my examiner?"
Mrs. Allen raised the corners of her mouth slightly, revealing a mysterious smile:
"There are no real secrets in the Black Mist Jungle, child, especially not for the old ones who have good ears and eyes."
She stood up and walked lightly to the medicine cabinet beside her, her slender fingers moving flexibly among the drawers.
"I prepared these for you." The pink-haired witch placed several packages of carefully selected ingredients on the coffee table:
"Each one is of top quality, enough for you to practice until the assessment."
Ron took the herbs, feeling touched but also a little ashamed: "This is too expensive, ma'am."
"Don't be so polite." Mrs. Allen waved her hand and smiled softly:
"You are the most talented student I have ever met. I have high hopes for you. Besides..."
She paused, and in her green eyes there was a satisfaction that Ron had never seen before:
"You may not realize it, but your growth during this period has begun to give me some 'favors' in return."
