Chapter 22 The Wounded Hero 1
"Xiao Ran!" Su Wanqing exclaimed and wanted to go back to help, but was stopped by Aze.

"I'll go," Aze said, raising his hands again. The water on the ground in the passage quickly gathered, forming a water whip, which lashed at the mutant.

The water whip hit the mutant's head, knocking it back. Aze took the opportunity to step forward, grabbed Xiao Ran's arm, and dragged him towards the exit.

"Let's go!" Aze pushed Xiao Ran and Su Wanqing out of the door, and he was the last one to come out, slamming the iron gate shut.

Outside was an alleyway with several cars parked at the entrance. The customers had already run away, leaving only the mother and daughter waiting.

The little girl hid behind her mother, her eyes were red and swollen, and she had just been crying.

"Thank you." The woman said gratefully, hugging her daughter tightly, "If it weren't for you."

The little girl timidly walked out from behind her mother and stretched out her hand to Xiao Ran: "Thank you, uncle, for saving me."

Xiao Ran forced a smile and squatted down to look the little girl in the eye. "You're welcome, little one. Now, you and mommy quickly find a safe place to hide, okay?"

The little girl nodded and looked at Aze: "Uncle can do magic, so amazing."

Aze smiled awkwardly, not knowing how to respond.

Su Wanqing stepped forward and asked, "Do you know of any safe places nearby?"

The woman nodded. "My sister's home is in the West District. There's a shelter set up by the military there. We're heading there."

"Then let's go quickly." Su Wanqing said, "It's not safe here."

The woman thanked him again, then took her daughter's hand and walked away quickly.

The little girl looked back, waved timidly, and then followed her mother into the alley.

"How are you?" Su Wanqing turned to Xiao Ran and checked his wound.

Xiao Ran's arms and chest were bleeding, but he just shook his head: "It's okay."

"No problem?" Su Wanqing frowned. "You were bitten by a mutant! We need to treat the wound immediately."

Aze leaned against the wall, breathing rapidly: "And we need to move. That door won't hold for long."

The sound of mutants banging on each other came from the inside of the iron gate, and it was obvious that they had chased into the passage.

The door panel began to deform and could be knocked open at any time.

Xiao Ran gritted his teeth and stood up straight: "We have to find a car."

Su Wanqing nodded and looked at the cars at the entrance of the alley: "Can you drive?"

Xiao Ran snorted coldly: "This little injury is nothing."

The three of them moved quickly towards the alley entrance. Aze walked in front, observing his surroundings vigilantly.

Xiao Ran endured the pain and followed in the middle. Su Wanqing stayed behind, occasionally looking back to check the iron gate behind them.

"That SUV is nice." Aze pointed to a black SUV.

Xiao Ran nodded: "Where's the key?"

Aze gave a wry smile: "The institute taught us a lot of skills. Lock picking is a basic course."

The banging noises behind the iron door grew louder and louder, and the door frame began to loosen.

The three of them quickened their pace and walked towards the SUV.

The banging sound of the iron door became louder and louder, and the door frame began to loosen and deform.

Aze walked quickly towards the black SUV, followed closely by Xiao Ran and Su Wanqing.

"Do you really know how to pick a lock?" Xiao Ran asked, his voice slightly hoarse from the pain.

Aze didn't answer, but squatted in front of the car door, took out a thin metal wire from his pocket and inserted it into the keyhole.

His movements were skillful and precise, as if he had done them countless times.

"The institute taught us a lot," Aze fiddled with the lock intently. "Some things are to help us complete our mission better, and some are to make it easier to catch us if we try to escape." Su Wanqing stood guard, occasionally looking back at the rickety iron gate. "Hurry up, they're about to come out."

After a moment, the iron gate finally collapsed under the weight. A group of mutants roared and rushed out of the passage, quickly scanning the alley entrance.

One of the mutants let out an inhuman roar and pointed at the location of the three people.

"Damn it!" Xiao Ran cursed, turned around to face the mutant, and assumed a fighting stance.

Aze quickened his movements, sweat dripping from his forehead: "Give me another ten seconds."

The mutants quickly approached the three of them. Xiao Ran took a deep breath and prepared to fight.

Just then, a childish cry came from the other end of the alley.

Everyone's eyes turned to the source of the sound. A little girl, about five or six years old, stood in the middle of the alley, holding a stuffed animal in her arms, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Mom?" the little girl cried, looking around. "Mom, where are you?"

"Oh my god, it's that little girl from before!" Su Wanqing exclaimed, "Why is she back again?"

The mutants also noticed the little girl and immediately changed direction and pounced on her.

When the little girl saw these horrible figures, she was so scared that she froze in place. She even stopped crying and just stared with her eyes wide open and trembling all over.

"No!" Xiao Ran shouted, ignoring the pain, and flew towards the little girl.

He was faster than the mutants, but at a greater distance. Seeing the first mutant about to pounce on the little girl, Xiao Ran suddenly rolled forward, picked up a broken metal pipe from the ground, and threw it at the mutant with all his strength.

The metal pipe hit the mutant's head accurately, knocking him to the ground.

Xiao Ran took the opportunity to rush to the little girl, picked her up, turned around and ran away.

"Run!" he yelled at the little girl, pushing her toward the alley. "Run!"

The little girl stumbled forward, but more mutants had already surrounded her.

One of the mutants stretched out its claws and grabbed the little girl.

Xiao Ran rushed forward again, blocking the little girl with his body. The mutant's sharp claws slashed across his arm, tearing the flesh and causing blood to gush out immediately.

"Ah!" Xiao Ran screamed in pain, but did not retreat. Instead, he kicked the mutant's knee, knocking him down.

"Xiao Ran!" Su Wanqing shouted, wanting to go forward to help, but more mutants blocked her way.

Aze finally pried open the car lock: "Done!"

He looked back at the battlefield and saw Xiao Ran holding the little girl in one hand and fighting the mutant with the other.

Blood continued to drip from his arm, staining the ground red.

Aze did not hesitate and immediately controlled the water on the ground and Xiao Ran's blood to form a water wall to block Xiao Ran and the mutant.

"Xiao Ran! Over here!" Aze shouted.

Xiao Ran heard the cry and ran towards the car with the little girl in his arms. The mutants crashed into the water wall and were bounced back, but the strength of the water wall was weakening, and Aze's face was getting paler and paler.

"Get in the car!" Su Wanqing opened the car door and let Xiao Ran and the little girl get in first.

Xiao Ran put the little girl in the back seat and sat in the passenger seat himself.

Su Wanqing jumped into the driver's seat, and Aze was the last one to get in. As he closed the car door, the water wall collapsed.

"The key!" Su Wanqing said anxiously.

Aze shook his head: "No need." He reached out and touched the ignition switch. A weak electric current flowed from his fingertips and the car engine started.

Su Wanqing didn't ask any more questions and immediately stepped on the accelerator. The SUV suddenly rushed forward, knocking away several mutants blocking the road and rushing out of the alley.

The car was silent, with only the sobbing of the little girl and Xiao Ran's heavy breathing.
