Chapter 9: Iron Beak is Fierce!

Early in the morning, there was a sound of pecking at the door, accompanied by the mooing of big-tailed yaks.

Perhaps because he was in a good mood after shopping yesterday, he slept exceptionally well last night. When he heard the sound, Josh was not fully awake yet. He only reacted when he opened the door and saw the Iron-billed Woodpecker.

"Oh, sorry, Iron-beaked Woodpecker, I didn't expect I would sleep until this time, I'm so sorry." Josh scratched his fluffy hair, quickly put on his clothes, took his tools, and walked towards the orchard with Iron-beaked Woodpecker.

"Dudu~" Cute little girl, don't panic, the noble Ironbeak Warrior will wait for you patiently.

Today's Iron-beaked Woodpecker has changed from the aloof look it had yesterday and has become a bit slick.

Qiao Xi was stunned for a moment, not knowing what to say, and just laughed awkwardly twice.

The forest was just within sight, so Josh pointed and said, "Ironbeak, look, that's it."

"Okay, Ironbeak got it!" The Ironbeak Woodpecker, which was flying at low altitude, suddenly rose higher and flew straight towards the giant lemon tree.

Josh took a step forward and ran over. He saw large groups of bees flying out from all corners of the forest, obviously frightened by the iron-beaked woodpecker.

"Buzz buzz buzz" What a scary bird!
Is the buzz buzz coming to eat bees? Help!

In an instant, bees were flying and dancing, and little bees were running around everywhere.

"It's okay, don't be afraid. The Iron-billed Woodpecker is here to kill pests. It has nothing to do with you. Don't be afraid." Qiao Xi hurried over to comfort them.

Fortunately, these white-velvet bumblebees and slender-legged wasps still remembered Josh and gradually calmed down.

Does “buzz buzz buzz” really not hurt us?

"No, no, of course I don't want to hurt you." A white and fat little bumblebee landed on Josh's fingertips, and Josh touched its belly with a smile.

After calming the bumblebee, Josh looked at the iron-beaked woodpecker circling high in the sky, wondering if it saw anything.

"Beep." Ironbeak saw it! A brainless, low-level monster.

The iron-beaked woodpecker swooped down and landed on a thick, giant lemon tree. It pecked at the tree trunk with its iron beak quickly, sending wood chips flying all over the ground. In just a few strokes, it dug a big hole in the fruit tree.

Josh stood by, unconsciously feeling a little nervous.

Suddenly, the iron beak swooped down and caught the greedy longhorn beetle that quickly jumped out of the gap under its claws, pecked it on the head seven or eight times, and killed it completely.

"Wow, it's so big." Qiao Xi leaned over and knocked on the carapace of the greedy longhorn beetle with his hand. It was shiny black and made a 'dong dong' sound when he knocked on it.

"Dudu~" For the brave Ironbeak Warrior, this is just a piece of cake.

The iron-beaked woodpecker raised its proud head and boasted about itself proudly.

"That's true, thanks to your powerful Iron Beak Warrior. If we hadn't met you, we don't know what kind of damage would have been done to our fruit trees. You are really amazing." Josh did not forget to praise it.

As the bird spoke, its head rose higher and higher, almost holding it up to the sky.

Suddenly, the iron-beaked woodpeckers took off quickly, "beep, beep" and more, they appeared.

And? Josh became nervous. Are there other pests in the orchard?

"Dudu" is the larva of the voracious longhorn beetle, so delicious, look at me. I saw the iron-beaked woodpecker, listening to the sound, quickly locked onto a place and began pecking, then pulled out a thick and fat maggot, quickly tore it into several pieces, and threw it to the ground.

Then he jumped onto another tree and started pecking.

…………

After the iron-beaked woodpecker had a full meal with six larvae of the greedy longhorn beetle, there was still a lot of meat left. Josh collected the meat and kept it, thinking it might be useful.

As it left, it told Josh that these greedy longhorn beetles definitely did not accidentally escape from the forest and settle there.

There must be a colony of longhorn beetles that have chosen this place as a breeding ground, otherwise there wouldn't be so many larvae. She'd better find the right ranger; there would surely be new beetles emerging from the eggs in a few days.

Josh asked, "Can we hire the Iron-beaked Woodpecker as a ranger for the farm?" but it refused.

"Dudu" I am not an ordinary woodpecker, I am an iron-beak warrior who will follow the pioneering corps on an expedition. Now I am just on vacation and having fun.

After saying that, it grabbed the adult gluttonous longhorn beetle and flew away.

Well, there was a new trouble. She had expected Ironbeak to refuse. It didn't look like an ordinary woodpecker. She just asked casually.

After Josh transferred the money to Buda.

Watching the Iron-beaked Woodpecker grow from a large black dot to a small black dot before its shadow gradually disappeared, Josh sighed, feeling a little worried. Problems were just coming one after another.

Weiguang Farm is like a funnel, surrounded by Weiguang Forest, Weiguang Lake and snow-capped mountains on three sides. The path built along the farmland is the opening of the funnel. Only there is a way out, and the rest of the place can be called pristine.

In fact, after leaving the farm and out of the farmland, the path is also surrounded by primeval forest. It is not until you reach the official road that there are special people patrolling regularly to search for wild monsters and ensure the safety of traffic.

This is also the reason why Josh was able to apply for this farm even though he came late, as the location is remote and transportation is inconvenient.

This orchard is located on the border with the Glimmering Forest. It is close to the forest and is full of magic fruit trees. There is abundant food, so it is easy to attract some small magical beasts.

Tiehui mentioned it casually, and the more Qiao Xi thought about it, the more he felt that it was a serious problem. It was only early spring, and few Warcraft elves came out. When the weather got warmer, wouldn't there be more little creatures coming to visit?

If it attracted some predatory monsters, it would disrupt the normal operation of the farm. Even if Josh was not afraid, it would be annoying enough.

Qiao Xi was not too worried about the safety issue. With the big-tailed yak around, there were very few magical beasts that could hurt her. Unless Qiao Xi went deep into the dense forest to seek death, there was no need to worry for the time being.

Besides, if a yak has lived on the snow-capped mountains for such a long time without any ability to protect itself, even if it is very powerful, accidents are bound to happen.

We must hurry and create a barrier while most plants have not yet awakened from winter and sprouted. We cannot let the orchard be connected to the forest like this, as it is clearly a pile of fat meat.

Josh returned to the farm cottage and dug out a long-dusty whetstone from the tool shed. It looked like the shell of some kind of turtle and felt a bit rough.

It's not like a tortoise shell, it's like stone and feels cool to the touch.

Josh took out the homemade machete he brought from Giant Rock Highlands and the tools issued by the Federation from his space backpack and prepared to sharpen the machete.

There is an old saying that goes, "Sharpen your sword before the battle, even if it's not quick, it will be brighter." Get ready with all the tools she brought and start working hard tomorrow.
