A farming master in Stardew Valley

Chapter 614: The Secret of Seeds

Chapter 614: The Secret of Seeds
After all eight fruit trees were planted, Leon walked around them again before returning to the house to wash his hands and change his shoes.

When he came out again, Leon pushed out a bicycle that had not been used for a long time from the wall next to the house, stepped on it, held the handlebars, and pedaled towards Pelican Town.

There are still many things to do today, the more important of which are to buy potato seeds, find Lewis to pay the income tax for the eastern mountains, and go to John to buy two fat old hens.

First stop, Pierre's grocery store.

"Hi, Leon!"

"Good morning, Leon."

"Leon, are you back from your trip?"

As soon as he entered the door, Leon heard several greetings.

"Good morning." Lyon responded to the greeting uniformly.

The three people who greeted her were all acquaintances, Gesmani and Leah.

Then Leon said to Leah, the only one who had a question: “How did you know I was traveling?”

"Mr. Linus told me when I went to your farm to deliver something," Leah explained.

"Then he didn't say anything strange, right?" Lyon asked immediately after hearing this.

"No, you just told me that you went out traveling. What's wrong?" Leah asked in confusion.

"It's okay, it's okay. By the way, what did you plan to give me when you went to my farm? Was it that ebony statue?" Leon waved his hand to bring the subject back.

"No, I found something very interesting in the forest and wanted to show it to you." Leah explained, shaking her head.

"What is it?" Leon was immediately interested.

"I don't know either. Do you need anything later? If not, you can come to my place. The things are too big for me to carry with me." Leah asked.

"Then I'll go over and take a look later, but I may need some time to do other things." Lyon replied.

"Okay, then I'll wait for you. You know, I'm in the Coal Forest. If I'm not at home, you can find me at the pier in the lake or by the river in the south." Leah nodded and added, then waved to Leon and left with the vegetables she had purchased.

"Leon, what do you need?"

As soon as Leah left, Pierre took the initiative to come to Leon and ask.

He seemed quite enthusiastic, but Lyon always felt that Pierre looked at him strangely today, as if he was being scrutinized.

"I'm here to buy some seeds, potato seeds." Although Leon was confused, he still explained his purpose.

"Potato seeds? Now is not a good time to buy them. Summer is coming soon, and potatoes can't germinate in the summer. If you plant them now, they will wither in two days. You'd better wait until the summer seeds are on the shelves before buying them."

After hearing Lyon's purchasing target, Pierre immediately persuaded Lyon.

Although Pierre's eyes looked a little strange, the reminder was very pertinent, so Leon was very friendly to Pierre: "I know, Mr. Pierre, I bought these seeds for other uses."

"Just call me Pierre, or you can call me Uncle Pierre like you did with Caroline." Pierre stopped trying to persuade him and instead started chatting with Leon about the question of address. "Uh, Uncle Pierre?" Leon was stunned for a moment, then reacted.

Pierre must have known about what happened between him and Abigail, so he asked her to change her words. No wonder he looked at her with such a scrutinizing look before. It seemed like he was a father-in-law observing his son-in-law.

"Forget it, just call me Pierre. I always feel weird when you call me uncle." Pierre couldn't stand it when he heard Lyon change his words, and immediately asked Lyon.

"Okay, Pierre, can I buy the seeds now?" Leon was actually relieved that he didn't have to call Pierre uncle. After all, he always felt that the title of uncle was weird, especially when it was used to call Pierre. Fortunately, the other party didn't seem to be used to this title either.

"Of course, how much do you need?" Pierre nodded, then guided Leon to the shelves in the seed area and asked.

"Fifty copies," Leon explained.

One batch of seeds contains twenty seeds, and fifty batches mean 1000 potato seeds. Now the remaining space in the field can be used to plant about half of them, and the remaining half can be used to fill the gap left by the high-quality seeds produced by the first crop of potatoes.

After all, after summer, Pierre will no longer sell spring seeds, potatoes being one of them, so Lyon wants to stock up some.

This is the case in the game because of the setting, and it is also the case in real life because it is completely unnecessary. After all, who would buy a seed that cannot be planted immediately? No one with business sense would do this, which is actually quite reasonable.

"It's a lot, but since you want to buy it, I won't refuse. You can also help me clear out the stock of spring potato seeds." Pierre was very happy about the order for potato seeds.

After all, few people in Stardew Valley would buy so many seeds at once. Only farmers like Leon have such large planting plots. For ordinary people's backyards, buying one batch might be too much and they might not be able to plant all the seeds. After all, you can't plant one crop in such a small space, right?

"Yeah." Leon agreed, and then started to take things from the shelf.

But just as he stretched out his hand, Pierre stopped Leon and said softly: "These seeds are of average quality. I have better ones in the warehouse. Go get them over there."

"Forehead"

Not knowing whether what Pierre said was true or not, Leon still followed Pierre to the warehouse. In the warehouse, Pierre tiptoed to the top of a three-tier shelf and took down a large basket of seed bags.

"These are the seeds I provide to my acquaintances in town, such as Lewis, Marnie Robin, and others. You are also a part of Pelican Town now, so I think you can get these better seeds."

Pierre picked out the potato seeds from the basket and placed them on the ground, and took the opportunity to explain it to Leon.

"Is this considered an internal benefit?" Lyon joked.

"Well, I guess so." Pierre's mouth twitched when he heard this. He understood that Leon was hinting at the relationship between him and Abigail.

"Compared to the seeds here, how is the quality of the seeds outside?" Lyon continued to ask.

"The source of each batch of seeds is different. The seeds I'm finding for you now are from an old farm, and the seeds on the shelf are from a new farm." Pierre did not hide it.

"This is insider information only we seed dealers know. Seeds from old farms are better than those from new farms in terms of survival rate and growth. But they are still potato seeds in essence. It's just that seeds from new farms require more care and attention than seeds from old farms."

"learn."

Lyon immediately understood what Pierre meant when he heard this. Isn't this artificial selection?
