A farming master in Stardew Valley

Chapter 189 Temporary Kitchen

Chapter 189 Temporary Kitchen
After returning to the farm and throwing all the void essence into the shipping box, Leon lay down in the house because there was nothing to do.

It was almost evening, so Leon had no plans to watch fortune telling or go mining on TV. He also had no interest in fishing for the time being, and the crops on the farm didn't need too much attention or care after watering them.

Lyon is now idle.

But it's also good to be idle. In the past period of time, Lyon has been busy every day, and his life has nothing to do with the leisurely pastoral time.

Now that he had some free time, Lyon was actually enjoying the time of lying down and daydreaming with nothing to do.

But lying in the house always felt a bit like being in prison, so Leon went straight out of the house and ran to the vicinity of the cave to see how far Demetrius's cave renovation project had progressed.

Leon's arrival also made Demetrius feel what it meant to be sitting on pins and needles. After all, no one would feel comfortable if someone was squatting behind them and staring at them with wide eyes while they were working hard.

Demetrius, who had just installed the sixth mycelium culture tank, finally couldn't stand Leon's gaze for ten minutes. He turned around and shouted at Leon: "Don't you have anything to do?"

"No." Leon spread out his hands. If there was no watermelon, he would have wanted to hold the watermelon and ask Demetrius if he wanted a piece.

Demetrius was choked by Leon's answer and was speechless. He wanted to tell Leon that he came to help if he had nothing to do, but when he remembered that he had told Leon in the morning that he didn't need to intervene, he could only blush and continue to busy himself with his work.

It was a pity that he was now in a cave, where there was not much light. In addition, due to the blessing of his skin, Leon could not see that Demetrius had entered the red temperature state.

However, Leon did not watch here for long because it was too boring, especially Demetrius's slightly clumsy carpentry skills, which made him wonder whether the big black man had not helped Robin's work at all, otherwise how could it take so much effort to bind a partition.

Watching Demetrius for a while also gave Lyon some new ideas. Maybe he could use his free time to make some improvements to his farm.

For example, setting up a temporary kitchen. Lyon was quite troubled by not being able to cook on rainy days. After all, an open-air fire pit was not a long-term solution.

This requires some tools though.

So Leon rode his bike towards Pelican Town and bought a batch of various tools needed for carpentry work at Joja's Supermarket.

After returning to the farm, Leon chose the open space behind the cabin and started to get busy.

The material is ready-made wood. These woods chopped down by the system's axes are basically rectangular structures of the same specifications. Although they are not as wide as wooden boards, their industrial size saves Lyon a lot of trouble when used to build frames and construct walls.

If the length is not enough, you can cut out the mortise and tenon structure to splice it. If the width is not enough, you can bind it with nails. Because it is a temporary kitchen, Lyon did not make the space too big, but chose the same sloped style as the wild shelter and built a semi-open building.

A portion of open space was deliberately left in the middle, and the soil on the open space was hollowed out to form a pit, and then stones were embedded in the soil walls and the bottom of the pit to form a fire pit.

A wooden structure was chosen to build a frame on top, and then filled with mud. Finally, an earthen stove made entirely of mud mixed with clay and fiber was completed.

At the bottom of the pit, Lyon lit some chopped wood pieces, letting the high temperature brought by the burning flames heat the earthen stove and dry out the moisture in the mud.

Lyon watched from the sidelines for any collapses or dents, ready to patch them up with the remaining mixed mud. To Lyon's surprise, the stove was incredibly well-made. Even as the damp mud hardened under the flames, no visible cracks appeared. Aside from the imperfect exhaust system, which caused a cloud of smoke around the stove, the stove itself was otherwise fine.

Seeing this, Lyon extinguished the firewood under the earthen stove and began to renovate it. The method was very simple. He just opened a separate smoke exhaust vent on the earthen stove and used wood as a frame structure to connect it.

Lyon directly extended the wooden frame to form a sloping roof for shelter from rain, and then covered it with mud after the frame was built.

Although it looks a bit ugly, at least it has an independent chimney that can discharge smoke.

When Lyon lit the fire again and observed the direction of the smoke from the burning firewood, he clearly saw a large amount of smoke being discharged into the sky outside the house through the chimney. A small amount of smoke leaked out due to the sealing problem of the chimney, but this was not a problem.

Because this temporary kitchen has no walls on three sides, the smoke will be carried away by the air flow as long as there is wind.

Admiring the masterpiece he had been busy working on for half a day, Lyon was very satisfied, and he specially took the frying pan and ingredients from the wooden house and cooked a dinner here.

The fire power of the earthen stove is obviously much more reliable than that of the fire pit. If the frying pan was not as convenient to use as the round-bottomed iron pan, Lyon would even plan to show off his skill of flipping the pan.

For dinner, Lyon prepared a simple stir-fried vegetable and white rice for himself. Since he was traveling alone, Lyon did not prepare a bowl. He poured the cooked rice directly into the frying pan, mixed it with the stir-fried vegetables, and started eating.

Halfway through his meal, Leon remembered that Demetrius was still busy working on his farm. He didn't know if he had finished, but he definitely hadn't had dinner.

While Leon regretted that he had invited this unpaid worker who was enthusiastic about helping him build his farm to have a quick meal, he also quickened his eating pace. He cleaned the frying pan and cooking pot as soon as he finished eating, and also washed his face and wiped the oil stains on his mouth.

As long as Demetrius didn't realize that he had already eaten, he couldn't blame Leon for forgetting him.

Lyon had just finished cleaning the kitchen utensils when Demetrius came over and knocked on the door of Lyon's cabin.

Opening the door, Leon saw Demetrius, who was dirty and looked tired. He was the first to speak: "Mr. Demetrius, are you done?"

This made Demetrius, who had originally emphasized to Leon not to care about him, twitch his lips, but he still replied: “It’s done, I should go back and rest.”

"Is there anything I need to pay attention to next?" Leon asked hurriedly. After all, he didn't know much about Demetrius' transformation, so it would be better to ask in person if there was anything he needed to pay attention to.

"I'll write to you later." Demetrius comforted Leon. Now he just wanted to go back, take a shower, eat a full meal and have a good sleep. After all, he was too tired.

"I think it's better to explain it face to face. This way you won't have to write a letter. One less piece of paper means one less plant will be harmed. As a geologist and botanist, you must also love nature, right?" Leon didn't want Demetrius to slip away like this. After all, who knew when the letter would arrive.
