The unparalleled talent of the country started from Harbin Institute of Technology

Chapter 173, Visiting Scholars and Exchange Groups, Masters and Doctoral Disciples

Chapter 173, Visiting Scholars and Exchange Groups, Masters and Doctoral Disciples
December 13, 1980, in the teaching building of the Department of Computational Mathematics of Harbin Institute of Technology, and the editorial office of the Harbin Institute of Technology Mathematical Journal.

Over the past few days, the magazine's editorial department has received dozens of submissions, of which nearly twenty were from students from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Nanjing University and other universities. After preliminary review, the quality of these papers seems to be quite good.

The most surprising thing is that we actually received three paper submissions from abroad.

It was precisely because of these three paper submissions that Wang Duoyu, who was more than a thousand kilometers away in Beijing, received a call from Wu Congqin.

The latter told Wang Duoyu that he had preliminarily reviewed the three papers from abroad, and Lu Jiaxi had also helped to review them. One of the papers was of quite high quality and might meet the requirements of the Harbin Institute of Technology Mathematical Journal.

As a professional journal that has clearly stated since its inception that it aims to become a world-class mathematics journal, Harbin Institute of Technology Mathematical Journal has very high requirements for the quality of all submitted papers.

I never expected that not long after the publication was launched, we actually received three submissions from abroad. Perhaps these three people were attracted by the royalties?

If we talk about influence alone, the "HIT Journal of Mathematics" cannot even compare with the American "Mathematical Annals", let alone the "Science China Mathematics".

However, the "HIT Mathematical Journal" was dominated by the popular Wang Duoyu, and when the first issue was published, it also directly published the first interim proof paper of Fermat's conjecture. The sales of the international version actually reached 1,300 copies.

So its influence may not be that great yet, but the sales volume has proven that many people have noticed its existence.

In addition, once it passes the review and is published, referring to the sales of the first issue, the paper will definitely attract the attention of many people, and the royalties will also be much higher than other publications.

Many people who engage in mathematical theory research only work part-time and their salaries are not high, so if there is a possibility of getting higher royalties, some people will definitely choose to take more royalties.

"Okay, Director, I understand. I'll be back in a while. The first draft of the paper has passed review, so I'll reply to the other party first. Whether to publish the other party's paper later will be decided after the final review results come out."

Wu Congxin heard this and nodded:

"I thought so too, but why did you stay in Beijing for so long? Didn't your wife give birth? Come back soon, or wait until your wife finishes her confinement and then return to Harbin Institute of Technology."

Wang Duoyu simply shook his head and rejected the other party's proposal.

It's winter now, and the weather in Ice City is so cold. How could he let Zhu Ling and the children go on a long journey?

Not to mention going on a long journey, Wang Duoyu was not even willing to leave the house.

Winter in the north is no joke.

Time passed, and a few days went by in the blink of an eye. When it was December 19th, Liu Deben called him directly and asked him to return to Harbin Institute of Technology as soon as possible.

Andrew Wiles had not arrived yet, but people like Shing-Tung Yau, Richard Karp, and Richard Schon had already come to HIT.

"Why are they here so soon?"

Wang Duoyu was quite surprised to hear that Shing-Tung Yau had already arrived at Harbin Institute of Technology.

After all, Qiu Chengtong didn't seem to be such a reckless person, but he didn't expect the other party to come straight towards him.

Liu Deben didn't know why Qiu Chengtong came so quickly, he just informed Wang Duoyu.

The latter had no choice but to pack his luggage the next day and fly back to Ice City.

In the afternoon, in the office of the teaching building of the Department of Computational Mathematics, Wang Duoyu communicated with Qiu Chengtong and others. In fact, he was chatting with Richard Karp, Richard Schön, Robert Langlands and others.

On the contrary, Shing-Tung Yau was reading Wang Duoyu's second proof paper of Fermat's conjecture.

The reason why Shing-Tung Yau came to Harbin Institute of Technology so quickly was actually because he received a call from his teacher Shiing-Shen Chern, so he came directly without any hesitation.

After learning from his teacher that Wang Duoyu had proved the entire Fermat conjecture, how could he still sit still?

After Richard Karp and others learned about this, they all expressed their desire to come to Harbin Institute of Technology for visiting scholars and exchanges, so they took the same flight.

As evening approached, Wang Duoyu looked at the watch on his wrist and suddenly said:

"Richard, Robert, how long do you plan to stay this time?"

Without waiting for their answer, Wang Duoyu suddenly said:

"Are you interested in attending a pure mathematics seminar? I plan to hold several such seminars at our school, which will last about half a year."

"We'll mainly discuss mathematical problems like the honeycomb conjecture, the perfect number conjecture, and the Cramer conjecture. Of course, the Langlands hypothesis is also a good topic if you're interested."

"If I have time, I will also attend such a seminar. I believe you will also benefit from it."

After hearing Wang Duoyu's words, Robert Langlands, Richard Kapp and others' eyes suddenly lit up. They nodded and agreed without any hesitation.

Why are they so decisive?
Because the conjectures mentioned by Wang Duoyu are all very real mathematical problems, if he also participates in such a seminar, then everyone may have sparks of inspiration.

Once these hypotheses are verified, even if I am not the first author, I can at least be the second author.

At the speed at which Wang Duoyu writes papers, it is very likely that these conjectures can be proved.

Among the top mathematical problems recognized by the world today, the first tier are definitely Fermat's conjecture, Goldbach's conjecture, and the four-color problem.

In fact, the Poincare conjecture, Hodge conjecture, Riemann hypothesis, Yang-Mills existence and mass gap are all considered first-tier mathematical problems, but the Fermat conjecture, the four color problem and the Goldbach conjecture are the three major mathematical problems in modern times in the world, and their difficulty coefficient is hundreds of years to solve.

In contrast, the Poincaré conjecture and others were proposed less than a hundred years ago, so they are naturally not classified in the first tier.

The second tier is the Collatz conjecture, the Artin conjecture, etc., which also attract many mathematicians.

The third tier includes the honeycomb conjecture, the perfect number conjecture, the Cramer conjecture, etc. The proof process of these problems is relatively "simple".

There is also a fourth tier, which consists of some slightly more difficult math problems, and there are a lot of them.

From the mathematical problems between different echelons above, it can be seen that problems such as Cramer's conjecture are indeed easier.

However, even so, these difficult mathematical problems are not so easy to prove.

They just look easy, but they are actually very difficult.

Seeing that Robert Langlands and others agreed, Wang Duoyu was immediately overjoyed and said:
"Okay, in that case, it's my treat tonight!"

He invited these friends who came from afar to dinner to celebrate. Robert Langlands and others certainly would not refuse, but Shing-Tung Yau refused.

"Professor Qiu, it's not possible to finish reading a paper so quickly. Why don't you have dinner with us? We still have time tomorrow."

Even though Wang Duoyu personally invited him, Qiu Chengtong still shook his head and refused.

The reason is very simple. Shing-Tung Yau is really "obsessed".

At this time, Shing-Tung Yau was completely immersed in the world of mathematics. He was not just looking for Wang Duoyu's paper, but also wanted to find the "flaws" in the paper to prove that Wang Duoyu had not completely proved Fermat's conjecture.

He lost both bets, so the title of "Twin Stars of Mathematics" given by the media was completely unfounded.

Although deep down he is a very proud person, Wang Duoyu has indeed surpassed him in many aspects.

How to do?
What else could he do?

You can only learn from your mistakes.

That night, Wang Duoyu had a good meal with Richard Cap and others, and took them to taste some Northeastern cuisine.

Most of the recipes of Northeastern cuisine are based on wild animals. Of course, Wang Duoyu did not really invite them to eat all kinds of wild animals at this time. After all, not everyone's stomach can tolerate it.

Just let Robert Langlands and the others taste some ordinary food, and don't let anything really happen to them, otherwise it will be a big trouble.

The next day, Wang Duoyu made various arrangements and set up the seminar.

Xue Xiaoling, Rong Guangxia, Zhu Hanting and others were all stuffed into these seminars by Wang Duoyu.

In the afternoon, he went to the handheld game console project to deal with the backlog of work that had accumulated over the previous half month.

Three days passed in a blink of an eye. Before Qiu Chengtong finished reading the paper, Andrew Wiles and others had already arrived at Yanjiagang Airport in Ice City.

Wang Duoyu did not go to the airport to greet these guests. It was not because he was arrogant, but because he really had something to do.

Yau pulled him aside and discussed with him the mathematical tools and theories in Fermat's conjecture, verifying them one by one.

The induction method based on Galois theory and the modular promotion theorem are relatively good. Qiu Chengtong had studied them carefully before coming here, but the theory of modular elliptic curves and the ring theory properties of certain Hecke algebras are not so simple.

So, when Andrew Wiles and his team took a car from Yanjiagang Airport back to the office in the teaching building of the Department of Computational Mathematics of Harbin Institute of Technology, they saw Wang Duoyu and Qiu Chengtong standing in front of the blackboard and having a heated discussion.

The audience was actually full of people. Sitting in the front row were Robert Langlands, Richard Kapp, Richard Schön and others. Even Xue Xiaoling, Rong Guangxia and others were there.

A good seminar ended up becoming a place for Wang Duoyu and Qiu Chengtong to perform.

Fortunately, Robert Langlands and others were also happy to listen to this.

But how many of them can understand it?

Andrew Wiles could have understood it, but he arrived too late and missed a lot of the exciting parts.

In addition, he had not read Wang Duoyu's second paper proving Fermat's conjecture, so naturally he only understood half of what he heard.

While Andrew Wiles and others were standing aside listening, Snape Rodriguez, Stuart, Anthony and others were also staring at Wang Duoyu.

Snape Rodriguez and his companions were a team sent by Theodore Wagner, director of the Special Office, to investigate whether Wang Duoyu was involved in deciphering the Rainbow Code.

From now on, Wang Duoyu is just a mathematics professor and doesn't look like he has ever been involved in any code-breaking.

In the evening, a welcome banquet was held in the cafeteria of Harbin Institute of Technology to welcome guests from afar such as Andrew Wiles.

"Welcome, William. I've read your paper on foliation on three-dimensional manifolds. It's very interesting."

Wang Duoyu raised his glass, clinked glasses with William Thurston, and said with a smile.

The latter is a Ph.D. from Cornell University in the United States. He currently has no position, or he is considering whether to take a position at Princeton University.

And now he was tricked by Andrew Wiles and others into coming to Harbin Institute of Technology.

If Wang Duoyu guessed correctly, William Thurston would definitely win the Fields Medal in two years.

Because before Wang Duoyu became famous, he and several others including Shing-Tung Yau were considered the favorites for the Fields Medal. Unfortunately, now that Wang Duoyu is here, he is in danger.

It is relatively safe for Shing-Tung Yau to win the Fields Medal because he has already proved several scientific research achievements, including the Calabi conjecture, the positive mass conjecture, and the Wolf conjecture.

Not to mention Wang Duoyu. Whether it is the Poincaré conjecture or the Fermat conjecture, both are famous conjectures. The international mathematics community has already reached a conclusion: it will definitely occupy a place.

So in comparison, William Thurston, who only came up with two scientific research results: leaf structures on three-dimensional manifolds and basically completed the topological classification of three-dimensional closed manifolds, is indeed more dangerous.

In the history of the original time and space, there were only three mathematicians who won the Fields Medal at the 1982 International Congress of Mathematicians.

Now, including Wang Duoyu, there are only four Fields Medal favorites.

But there was still a year and a half until 1982, and no one knew whether others would catch up.

For example, Xue Xiaoling, Rong Guangxia, and Mo Ruogao.

All three of them have published a paper in a top journal, and the gap is not that big compared to William Thurston.

There are also Andrew Wiles, Bochers, Jean Bourgain and others. They are similar to Xue Xiaoling and the other two and are in the second tier of candidates for the Fields Medal.

"Thanks."

William Thurston was quite excited. He started talking about the topic raised by Wang Duoyu and seized the opportunity to communicate.

Whether it is Andrew Wiles or William Thurston, they all have the opportunity to communicate with Wang Duoyu face to face.

Shing-Tung Yau is just an exception. His achievements, such as the Calabi conjecture, are actually somewhat inferior to those of Wang Duoyu.

The Calabi conjecture is equivalent to a third-tier mathematical problem, which is far less famous and difficult than the Poincare conjecture. Therefore, Wang Duoyu is highly sought after by the global mathematics community, while Qiu Chengtong is unable to hold a solo lecture.

Being asked by the presidium of the International Congress of Mathematicians to give a one-hour report at the conference is already a very impressive thing.

But compared with Wang Duoyu's individual report meeting, it is still far behind.

Andrew Wiles and others are either PhDs or researchers, which makes them a level lower than Shing-Tung Yau, who has become a professor of mathematics and has made great achievements.

As a result, William Thurston was unable to communicate with Wang Duoyu alone at the two previous lectures at Peking University and Princeton University.

The next day, Wang Duoyu's second paper proving Fermat's conjecture was printed and then handed over to Andrew Wiles, William Thurston, and Jean Burgain for "review."

This is the first time that Harbin Institute of Technology Mathematical Journal has such a large review team.

At the same time, Wang Duoyu also sent two different versions of the paper, Chinese and English, to Chen Jingrun and others for help in reviewing.

For a time, the entire mathematics community was in turmoil again.

The seminar was also launched simultaneously, and Xue Xiaoling and others all participated in it.

On the Peking University side, no one knew when they received the news, but Cheng Minde, the director of the Peking University Institute of Mathematics, led a team to Harbin Institute of Technology for exchanges.

Shiing-Shen Chern also brought his team here.

However, Chen Shiing-Shen's purpose was not that simple. He was thinking about whether he could recruit a few students to enrich the Institute of Mathematics of Nankai University.

The Department of Computational Mathematics at Harbin Institute of Technology is currently one of the busiest departments in China. Seminars and conferences are held frequently, and doctors and researchers from all over the world gather here.

Zhu Hanting sat in the classroom, feeling a little dazed for a moment.

He is the busiest person because he needs to act as a guest translator.

Because he had spent a year at Princeton University, he had no problem communicating in English.

Although it would be better to have Shiing-Shen Chern, Shing-Tung Yau and others serve as translators, it is naturally impossible for these bigwigs to serve as translators for Robert Langlands and others.

If they were asked to serve as translators for Wang Duoyu, there would naturally be no problem, but that is not the case now.

Amidst the busy schedule, Zhu Hanting himself discovered that he felt more at home at Harbin Institute of Technology, and that his previous year studying abroad at Princeton University was not completely wasted.

He felt that if this exchange meeting lasted for half a year, he would most likely learn more and might even surpass Xue Xiaoling.

In the editorial office of "HIT Mathematical Journal", Wang Duoyu has reviewed all the papers.

These papers have all passed the initial and second reviews, and there are eight in total.

He eliminated five of them because of insufficient quality, and only three were able to be published in the Harbin Institute of Technology Mathematical Journal.

One of the articles was written by Michael Friedman, an assistant professor at the University of California, San Diego, who was actually one of the losers of the Poincaré conjecture.

In the history of proto-time and space, when he was working at the University of California, San Diego, he originally conducted research based on Andrew Casson's theory and proposed an infinite process of constructing handle structures in a four-dimensional manifold, thus proving the four-dimensional space Poincare conjecture in 1981.

But at this time and space, Wang Duoyu had already submitted his paper in 1978.

As a result, all the scientific research results of Michael Friedman from 1975 to 19778 were reduced to ashes.

So in April 1979, after listening to Wang Duoyu's lecture at Peking University, he turned to research on another branch of topology.

At the same time, because of Wang Duoyu, Michael Friedman's application to study at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton was rejected.

He had no choice but to continue studying scientific research.

After he finally produced a high-quality paper, he found that the outside world had completely changed.

Wang Duoyu not only completely conquered the Poincare conjecture, but also produced interim proof results of the Fermat conjecture.

The Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, which he had always dreamed of, was trying to please Wang Duoyu, hoping that he could come to Princeton as a researcher, but Wang Duoyu refused.

As the saying goes, if you are poor, you will change, and if you change, you will be successful.

Michael Friedman submitted an article to the Harbin Institute of Technology Mathematical Journal, hoping to capitalize on this opportunity and, in addition to achieving success and fame, also earn a small income from royalties. The first issue sold over 1,300 copies, a respectable figure for a leading journal.

You know, at the last International Congress of Mathematicians, there were only more than 3,000 people attending.

Perhaps many people did not attend for various reasons, but there are actually not many researchers in the field of mathematics in universities around the world.

What's more, "HIT Mathematical Journal" is just a newly established magazine, and the sales volume of the first issue was more than 1,300 copies, which is already very impressive.

"Are these the only three papers?"

When Wang Duoyu informed Wu Congqin of his final trial result, the latter was stunned.

Because in his opinion, the quality of the other five papers was not bad, so why were they eliminated?

But Wang Duoyu is the real leader, so whatever he says is what counts.

If we count the paper written by Wang Duoyu himself, there are a total of four papers published in the second issue.

To be precise, the fact that Harbin Institute of Technology Mathematical Journal has been able to publish so many papers in two consecutive issues, and the quality is quite good, is already very impressive.

Wang Duoyu nodded and said:

"Director, once Professor Qiu and his colleagues have reviewed my paper, we can publish it directly. The specific time can be set on the 20th of next month."

Wu Congxin immediately asked: Professor Qiu, are the reviewers so fast?

"Of course!" Wang Duoyu said with a smile:

"Not only Professor Qiu and his colleagues, but also Professor Chern and his colleagues will help review the manuscript. Otherwise, do you think they just happened to come here to play?"

In the blink of an eye, New Year's Day has arrived.

January 1, 1981 was New Year's Day, but Wang Duoyu and his classmates spent the day in the classroom.

Although today is a holiday, most people did not take a day off, but continued to 'work'.

Zhu Hanting had already received the news that the paper he had written previously had been rejected.

So he can't even publish in the "school journal" of his alma mater, "HIT Journal of Mathematics", and can only resubmit to other journals such as "Science China·Mathematics"?
He couldn't believe it, but he didn't go to find Wang Duoyu and could only continue to calm down.

On the contrary, Rong Guangxia's paper actually passed the final review, which almost made Zhu Hanting unable to hold back.

"And whose paper is the last one?"

Zhu Hanting was destined to have no way of knowing the answer to this question. He could only wait until the second issue of the magazine was published.

Since Xue Xiaoling and others did not receive the notification, it is highly likely that this paper is not from Harbin Institute of Technology.

No matter what they guessed, Wang Duoyu had already arrived at the handheld game console project laboratory.

"The game cartridge is ready, right? Can I try it now?"

Wang Duoyu took a look around the laboratory and asked.

"Professor Wang, yes, we have completed the production of the game "China Cube"

As one of the project leaders, Yin Wenjie had a low presence and stood aside silently.

The three people responsible for the production of the "Chinese Blocks" game are Zhao Jiawei, Yang Dachun and Fan Honggeng. These three people were previously researchers in distributed computer projects. Wang Duoyu valued them very much, so this small project was handed over to them.

They are all young people, and they must be given opportunities. Otherwise, how can they grow?

Wang Duoyu heard this and nodded and said:

"Okay, Lao Zhao, you guys start playing now. I need to see if the game runs smoothly and other tests. If it passes the test, then we can debug the equipment and produce the product, and then wait for it to be put on the shelves for sale."

"Chinese Cube" is the game that Wang Duoyu values most, no doubt about it.

It was listed as the project with the strictest confidentiality level before it was launched.

Only after achieving some interim research results did Wang Duoyu arrange for people to apply for patents abroad.

Like lead-acid batteries, motors, and optical disc storage products, patents have been applied for in all regions of the world.

Today, the patent may not have been fully applied for, but it doesn’t matter. As long as we seize the initiative, there will be no problem.

Half a day later, Wang Duoyu also tried playing the simple game "Chinese Cubes". Like "Dupin", it was very addictive.

After playing this computer version of the game for a while, Wang Duoyu felt a little aesthetically fatigued.

But Zhao Jiawei and the others enjoyed it and were completely addicted to it.

"Okay, for the next week, continue testing everything. If there are any bugs, fix them immediately. I want to see the most optimized game in a week!"

Wang Duoyu glanced at everyone and then said:

"It's January 1, 1981, and today is New Year's Day. I've already told the cafeteria about dinner tonight, so you all should eat and drink well."

"On the 8th, I need to see a perfect product presented to me. Do you have the confidence?"

Zhao Jiawei, Fan Honggeng, Yang Dachun and others were immediately energized, shouting in unison that they had confidence.

Yin Wenjie, the person in charge, also had veins exposed, and was obviously very angry.

After all, the "Chinese Cube" game has been developed, so we can really look forward to the handheld game console project.

Of course, days with hope are happy.

When Wang Duoyu walked out of the laboratory, it was already dark outside.

As soon as he returned to the teaching building of the Department of Computational Mathematics, he was pulled into the office by Wu Congqin. He saw Li Rui, Liu Deben, Han Jue and others. Everyone looked very serious, as if something big had happened.

"Duoyu, have you noticed that some of the people in those foreign mathematics exchange teams have ulterior motives?"

Hearing Han Jue's words, Wang Duoyu was stunned for a moment, then shook his head and said:
"Who are you talking about? I've been busy with my own things recently and haven't paid attention to these things."

As his mind raced, Wang Duoyu had already thought of the incident when he had helped the 749th Bureau to decrypt the code.

Because apart from his involvement in this incident, there was nothing else that would cause the foreigners to be "nervous".

Based on the Rainbow Code that Qiu Qicheng had mentioned to him before, and the paper on Fermat's conjecture that he published two months ago, he already had a rough guess.

Fermat's conjecture can be applied to encryption algorithms. Although it is only a part of the encryption algorithm, it is a very big deal for those cryptographic institutions.

So it is very likely that this was the cause.

Without waiting for Han Jue to continue asking questions, Wang Duoyu said to Li Rui and Liu Deben:
"Secretary Li, Principal Liu, I want to talk to you privately."

Han Jue and Wu Congqin's eyes widened instantly, and they had to watch Wang Duoyu and the others leave the office.

Wu Congqin's office is not safe, so Wang Duoyu and the others can only go to the principal's office.

In terms of confidentiality level, the principal's office is definitely more confidential, even Secretary Li Rui's office is not as confidential.

More than ten minutes later, in the principal's office, after Liu Deben confirmed that there was no problem with the office, Wang Duoyu immediately took out paper and pen and began to write.

He simply took out a piece of paper and wrote directly on the glass table top.

Although text communication will leave traces, you can just burn the paper after the communication is over.

"Notify the comrades from the 749th Bureau to confirm the situation of those foreigners. Also, have the comrades from the Security Department remain vigilant for the next two days, but do not alert the enemy."

Li Rui and Liu Deben nodded. They both came from that era and had rich experience in this kind of struggle.

After coming out of the principal's office, Wang Duoyu went straight to the cafeteria to celebrate with Zhao Jiawei and others.

The next morning, people from the 749th Bureau arrived, led by Lei Daqing himself.

They didn't see anyone, and they were basically certain that Snape Rodriguez and others were the people they were looking for.

So, after verifying the situation, Lei Daqing began to make arrangements in all aspects.

In Lei Daqing's view, this was a merit that came right to his doorstep, and he could take this opportunity to eradicate these people.

Since 1978, after the establishment of reform and opening up, a large number of foreign tourists have come to visit our country.

There are mostly investment teams, but there are also many tourists visiting.

There are even many Chinese faces. After these people came in, some of them did not come with such a simple purpose, but came with other purposes.

Although the time is not very long, for the 749th Bureau, the two years of 1979 and 1980 are long enough.

If Wang Duoyu had not helped crack the Rainbow Code, our country would have suffered huge losses.

Wang Duoyu didn't care about this matter. All he needed to do now was to cooperate.

The so-called cooperation means just doing what you should do normally and pretend that he doesn't know about this matter.

He was already very busy, and since he was required to cooperate in this way, he was even happier.

On January 5, Shing-Tung Yau had finished reviewing the paper and could not find any flaws at all.

In fact, Qiu Chengtong did not need such a long time to review the paper. After all, Wang Duoyu's paper was very detailed and not so "obscure and difficult to understand".

But he wanted to find flaws to confirm that Wang Duoyu did not really prove Fermat's conjecture.

Unfortunately, Fermat's conjecture has been proven to be a foregone conclusion.

William Thurston, Andrew Wiles, Robert Langlands and other members who participated in the 'review' either had not yet completed the task or had already completed it but were deeply shocked.

Chen Jingrun and others also brought good news one after another. Now all that was needed was the review results from mathematics professors in the United States, Great Britain, the Polar Bear Empire and other places.

On January 7, Wang Duoyu left Ice City and flew directly to the capital because his son was one month old.

Wang Duoyu did not plan to hold a full moon banquet this time. He just wanted to go and see Zhu Ling and her son and would be back in two days.

Harbin Institute of Technology is very busy now, so he can't leave for too long.

However, when he arrived at No. 6 Xila Hutong, Fang Zhen and others said that they needed to hold a banquet.

"It's too late, Mom. I have to go back on the 9th and can't stay in Beijing any longer."

Upon hearing this, the mother-in-law glared angrily and said:

"What's the matter? Do you really dislike the capital? Can't I even let you stay for two more days?"

Zhu Qizheng started to defend Wang Duoyu: "Old woman, don't be so unreasonable. Duoyu is busy with his work, you know that."

It would have been fine if he didn't mention this, but as soon as he did, Fang Zhen immediately went crazy.

"Zhu Qizheng, what do you mean? You're saying I'm unreasonable, right? He's busy with work. Oh, the rest of us aren't busy with work, right? It's not enough that he's not seen all day long, but now his son is one month old..."

Wang Duoyu rationally chose to remain silent and quickly evacuated the battlefield.

What's there to argue about?
Old Wang’s relatives don’t know about his son’s birth yet, let alone the full moon banquet.

Who made him marry Zhu Ling and not live in his hometown?
The journey is long and the mountains are far away, but it’s not a big deal.

Anyway, it would be the same if I waited until little guy Wang Junhong grew up a little and then took him back to my hometown.

The father-in-law and mother-in-law quarreled for a long time. When they came to their senses, Wang Duoyu and Zhu Ling had already left. They felt very embarrassed.

Wang Duoyu had agreed to stay in Beijing for two days, and he really kept his word. On the morning of the 9th, he kissed Zhu Ling and the little guy goodbye, then went to Nanyuan Airport and took a flight back to Ice City.

After returning to Harbin Institute of Technology, Wang Duoyu plunged into busy work.

In the morning, I was busy providing technical guidance on several projects such as CD-ROM storage, handheld game consoles, and storage. In the afternoon, I either communicated with Andrew Wiles, William Thurston and others, or stayed in the office to derive the Yang-Mills existence and mass gap problems.

As for the evening, it depends on the schedule. If there is nothing else to do, I will continue to prove the thesis.

The "China Cube" game did not pass all tests on the 8th and still needs to be optimized.

Although they were just some seemingly insignificant flaws, after Wang Duoyu checked them, he still asked Zhao Jiawei and others to continue optimizing them.

As the first game launched by Huashun Company, it must be perfect. At least from the consumer's side, it is an irresistible game product that can make people addicted.

Time flies. On the 10th, master and apprentice Shiing-Shen Chern and Shing-Tung Yau left Harbin Institute of Technology.

But just two days after they left, on the 13th, another visiting scholar exchange team of more than 20 people arrived from Europe.

I don't know exactly why, but Gerd Faltings, John Coates, Kenneth Ise and others all showed up.

When Wang Duoyu saw all of them coming, he immediately smiled happily. He gathered them together and warmly welcomed them.

Now, if we count, the visiting scholar exchange team from Europe and the United States has exceeded 50 people, and most of them are assistant professors, doctors, researchers, etc. They will all be very outstanding figures in the future.

For example, John Coates received his undergraduate degree from the Australian National University, his master's degree from the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, France, and his doctorate from the University of Cambridge.

For example, Yorkz, this guy is currently just a master's student at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris and has not graduated yet, but he is a genius.

Because this kid was admitted to the prestigious École Normale Supérieure in Paris and École Polytechnique with the first place in 1975. He is an extremely rare genius in the history of these two schools.

So even though he is only a master's student now, he is still extremely awesome.

The arrival of a group of foreigners made the entire Harbin Institute of Technology more lively.

On the afternoon of January 15th, when Wang Duoyu was sharing the hyperbolic property of mapping with everyone on the podium, a person suddenly walked in from outside.

The man was very excited and his face flushed, but he didn't dare to interrupt Wang Duoyu.

It wasn't until a while later, after Wang Duoyu finished sharing, that he raised his hand and said:

"Professor Wang, I did it, I really did it"

After hearing Li Shenglong's words, Wang Duoyu was stunned for a moment, then asked:
"Speak slowly, what did you do?"

"Professor Wang, last semester you told me that if I could learn and master L-functions and spatial transformations within six months and successfully publish two papers in the Annals of Mathematics, you would accept me as your student. And now I've done it!"

Li Shenglong took out two letters containing reply letters from the editorial department of the Annals of Mathematics.

In an instant, the whole classroom fell silent, and everyone looked at Wang Duoyu and Li Shenglong in surprise.

Holy crap, could Li Shenglong have really done it? Was Wang Duoyu's first closed disciple really going to appear?

Wang Duoyu took the letter, read it, and said with a smile:

"You haven't read it clearly. These two are indeed replies from the Annals of Mathematics.
