Chapter 420 Mission: 03-3 Chaos Vortex
In the chaotic wasteland, a man in red carrying a greatsword and a man in black carrying a long knife met.
"Hey Virgil, how many did you kill this time?" asked the man in red.
"Three," the man in black replied coldly. "What about you, Dante?"
"Four. Looks like I'm the winner this time."
"But in terms of total number, I still have one more than you."
Both of them had silver-white hair. The one in red was a little unkempt, with messy hair and a long beard; the one in black was much neater, with a clean-shaven beard and hair neatly combed back.
"Really? Why don't I remember this?"
Facing the black-clad man's counterattack, the man in red began to play dumb. This was met with even sharper ridicule: "What? Have you forgotten how to do even simple addition and subtraction?"
"...Damn it, this isn't fair!" Unable to argue any further, the man in red collapsed to the dark ground and started to act like a spoiled brat: "I think we should exchange weapons!"
Seeing this, the man in black also supported himself with the knife in his hand and sat on the ground: "Okay, if this can convince you."
The wasteland fell into silence for a while, and only silence remained on the endless land without even the sound of wind.
Finally, the red-dressed man's laughter pierced the silent earth. "Ha, forget it. If I want to be convinced, I'm afraid we'll have to wait until next life."
"Feel the same."
"I feel the same way, don't you?"
"Your ability to understand is beyond my imagination."
Ever since arriving in the Demon Realm and chopping down the Demon Realm Tree, bickering like this had become the norm for over a year. Thanks to each other, they never felt bored during their time in the Demon Realm.
Endless time continued until a blue meteor streaked across the chaotic sky.
"Okay, you've rested enough, haven't you?" The man in red stood up first and stretched. "It's time to get back to work."
The man in black was about to answer, but his attention was unexpectedly attracted by a ray of light in the sky.
"what is that?"
The man in red raised his head and heard a voice coming from afar.
"Dante! Virgil!"
The man in red was the first to recognize who the person was. "Why does it look like that kid? Shouldn't he still be in the human world?"
"You mean Nero?" the man in black asked in surprise.
Then the light fell to the ground. As the magic power dissipated, the silver-haired young man retracted the translucent wings and claws behind him and returned to his human form. "Finally, I found you!"
"Why are you here?" the man in red asked sternly, "Didn't we tell you to keep an eye on the human world?"
The man in black reached out his hand to stop him: "Let's listen to what he has to say first, Dante."
"I just realized something so serious has happened!" The last person to arrive frowned and spread his hands: "You need help this time, don't think about leaving me alone again."
"I told you, this is none of your business. Your dad and I can handle it."
"Facing thousands of Mondes? Just the two of you? Do you want me to just go back and sleep under the covers? Pretend I don't know what's going on here?"
The man in red wanted to say something, but the man in black stopped him again: "Come on, Dante. He's right this time."
"Virgil!"
"Compared to Dante, you do seem calmer, Dad."
A new voice interrupted the three men's quarrel. The two men in red and black turned and were shocked to see two more men. The man in the black trench coat looked identical to the other man in black, but he was accompanied by a blonde girl who looked familiar, yet strange, to both men.
"Of course, this is my advantage." The man said with a smile.
"Nice to meet you two." The blonde girl raised her skirt and saluted. "I'm Nero, Nero Fortuna. This is my father, Virgil."
"I didn't expect to find you two first." Virgil nodded calmly.
The two, whose appearances were less than fresh due to their long time in the demon world—let's call them Mr. Dante and Mr. Vergil, imitating Mr. Nero's name. Upon seeing the two newcomers, they exchanged bewildered glances. Mr. Dante's gaze roamed over the other four, uttering a soul-searching question:
"Is this Nero?!"
"Don't run away from reality, Dante." Mr. Virgil's eyes swept from Nero, collided violently with Virgil, and then fell back on Mr. Dante: "It's obvious that 'Virgil' is better than you in this regard."
"What does that mean?" asked Mr. Nero.
"It's telling your uncle he needs to work on it."
Mr. Dante retorted, "So you've put some effort into this, huh? Your son's personality is nothing like yours."
Mr. Virgil turned his head expressionlessly and looked up at the sky, while Virgil covered his chest as if he had been attacked and let out a muffled "hmm".
"Are you okay, Dad?" Nero patted his back with a smile.
"Ahem, it's okay."
Virgil glanced at Nero, then at Mr. Nero, patted his chest lightly, and breathed a sigh of relief.
"What did he do?" Mr. Virgil heard the noise, turned his head and looked over here, asking in surprise.
"Who knows? He is Virgil, shouldn't I ask you this question?" Mr. Dante looked at him speechlessly.
The intruder's appearance completely ruined their competition, and their argument inevitably escalated further and further in the other direction. After a moment's silence, Mr. Dante and Mr. Virgil exchanged glances and posed a question to the other side.
It was Mr. Dante who spoke: "So, you are really Virgil and Nero?"
"of course."
"Replacement guaranteed."
"Isn't this good?" Mr. Virgil said calmly. "We've been wondering why so many Demonic World Trees from other worlds have appeared here, but we haven't seen anyone from other worlds. Now they've finally appeared."
"Did they follow you?" Mr. Dante asked Mr. Nero again.
“…That’s right.”
Mr. Nero took a look at the two people who seemed to be getting along quite well, and felt a little awkward for a moment.
"That's enough small talk, right?"
Virgil interrupted the conversation between the three of them, stood in front of Nero, and said, "I have something to tell you about the current situation of the demon world."
Mr. Nero, who had heard all that, knew that what he said was true, so he took a step back and nodded, "I hope you can listen to it, too."
Mr. Dante and Mr. Virgil looked at each other again and spoke separately.
"It doesn't matter."
"tell me the story."
So Virgil began his narration.
