Chapter 373 Mission: 11-1 Inverted Tower
Dante and Virgil agreed that after dealing with the Magic Drink Factory, their second meeting place would be a bridge across the river near the Raptor News Tower.
It was already the next morning. Dante, having finally managed to make his way through the police encirclement by switching between Limbo and the real world with Nero, yawned as he stepped onto the bridge. The golden-red morning light and the towering News Tower were reflected in the river, shimmering in the shimmering water.
Virgil, dressed in black and wearing a tricorn hat, stood by the railing, gazing at the river. Behind him, the traffic flowed endlessly.
"Hey--"
Dante lifted his hood and greeted Virgil. Virgil recognized Dante's voice, but ruthlessly interrupted him and said coldly:
"Is it fun to pretend like this?"
Dante stopped and frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"You didn't trust me." Virgil gave Dante a cold look. "Why are you still working with that demon? I should have said it was—"
"She's family, Virgil."
Dante wasn't stupid; he immediately realized that Nero had been spotted by Raptor News while working with him, and the news had once again appeared on the big screen. There was no point in making excuses at this point, so Dante could only offer his most convincing evidence to try and dispel Virgil's hostility: "Just like you and me, my mother told me so herself."
"Mother? No, you are deluded."
Virgil shook his head. "I bet you Dante, what you saw was just an unreliable shadow."
"Damn it, I didn't come here to argue with you." Dante turned his head helplessly to look at the crowd beside him, then turned back to Virgil and said, "I'm going to be frank right now - whether you trust her or not is your business, but to me, you and she are the same. Now, tell me what to do next, and don't worry about the rest."
He said: "Even if I get tricked, I'll be the only one who dies."
"you--"
Virgil was furious, but there was nothing he could say. He turned away in exasperation, took a deep breath, and lowered his voice. "The controller of the Raptor News Tower resides in its reflection. The only way to get there is through Limbo. That's all I have to say."
"I'll take care of it."
"hope so."
Virgil walked away quickly, and Nero caught up with Dante a moment later.
Looking at the strange guy in the distance, who had his black windbreaker buttoned up tightly, Nero tilted his head and folded his arms: "First impressions are always a disaster."
"He didn't give me a place to meet next." Dante raised an eyebrow and shrugged, turning to look at the river. "Could it be that the relationship has broken down like this?"
"If he really wants to defeat Mondes and restore freedom to the world, he will have to cooperate with you. He has no choice."
Nero replied: "Besides, he is worried about you."
"Worry? I haven't heard you say that in a long time. But I don't need anyone to worry about me. Weakness is the privilege of the happy."
"Is this your understanding of life?"
"almost."
At this point, Dante's mind flashed to something. Nero had previously told him, "Demons don't cry," and at first he'd thought it was a joke, but then, combined with what he'd just said, something clicked in his mind. Humans are weak, but being weak is a form of happiness. Demons are powerful, and because they're powerful, they never shed tears.
I joked before that Nero couldn't cry, but...how long has it been since he shed tears?
Never mind. Dante shook his head, dismissing these slightly extravagant worries. Pointing at the quietly flowing river, he repeated Virgil's words to Nero. "He said the demon we need to deal with is hidden in the reflection of the Raptor News Tower in the river."
"Oh? That sounds quite creative."
Nero leaned against the railing, stood on tiptoe, and peered out for a moment. Then he extended his hand toward Dante. "That means we have to go through Limbo. Are you ready?"
"of course."
Dante grabbed the hand.
"Then three, two..."
One.
The moment Nero's countdown ended, she slipped and fell over the railing. Dante, who was being held by her, did not struggle and was simply dragged over the railing and plummeted into the river.
The rippling water surface in the distorted space lost its mirror reflection, and the reflections of Nero and Dante falling downwards disappeared from the water surface, just like the crowd behind them.
Then, the two fell into the water.
The mirror reflecting reality has always been considered a "passageway to another world," but at this moment, this idea became reality. Dante touched the water, but it was only an invisible "surface" separating the two states, and the water was a non-existent thing.
Or at least, it didn't exist in this part of the Limbo. The moment they entered the water, the world turned upside down. The earth and the water were above their heads, and houses grew upside down like stalactites. The two of them fell into the dark, empty sky.
The gravity of this hellhole was still "downward" in the real world. But this was normal. If gravity were reversed upon entering the water, the two of them would float in the gap between the two worlds, unable to truly enter either side.
The only problem is-
They were about to overtake.
"Why are you still standing there? Hurry up and do it!"
Seeing that there was no more space to stand below, Dante quickly took out his grappling gun, locked onto a floating bus, and dragged Nero and them both over.
Although the bus was dragged down into the sky, it at least temporarily halted their descent. Dante then cast the hook again, this time latching onto a streetlight on the bridge. The hook slowly retracted, and Dante grabbed Nero's hand, throwing her onto the bridge first.
But to be more precise, this place should be "under the bridge." Because the street lamp caught by Dante's hook also grows downwards like the building in the real world, this place is actually "under" the bridge.
Then Dante rolled over and climbed up, complaining, "I remember you were able to use black smoke to make a hand to do the same thing before. Why do you want me to do it all now?"
Nero pulled out the jade that had been completely transformed into white by the angel's power and said helplessly, "Didn't you see it's now turned into white mist? This thing can't condense into a solid object like black smoke. It will dissipate with the wind."
“…It’s really useless.”
"Think about it again. Should we credit its contribution for killing the succubus?"
"Okay, okay, you're right."
Dante raised his hand and looked at the upside-down tower in the distance with Nero.
