Chapter 270 Mission: 05-7 One Day of Freedom

Nero didn't give Lu Mingfei a chance to answer, as she was already in high spirits and didn't want to be put off by a rejection. After hiding her suitcase behind a shelter, she vanished into a blur of light at a speed too high to be seen by the naked eye.

Lu Mingfei wasn't wrong. This was a real-life CS game, a game where no one would die. The reason it looked so realistic was simply because the bullets used by both sides were the high-tech "Frigga Bullets" produced by the Kassel Academy Equipment Department. These were specially designed anesthetic bullets that instantly disintegrated into a red, bloody mist upon contact with living matter. However, on ordinary inorganic matter, such as walls and bricks, they would have a similar effect to normal bullets.

This was Kassel College's traditional welcome program for freshmen, "Freedom Day." Today was Kassel College's anniversary, and on this day, almost all school rules ceased to apply. With the exception of three special rules for students who caused excessive disturbances, resulting in casualties or leaking secrets, almost anything could be done.

But pure disorder doesn't exist. Within the school's rules, student groups also have their own rules. Thus, Free Day became a platform for the Student Union and Lionheart Club, two major clubs that each dominate Kassel, to outdo each other and attract new members. In this live-action CS match, the Lionheart Club is the red team, and the Student Union is the black team. The first team to capture the opposing team's coach receives a free villa on campus as a venue.

In previous years, even if the new students banded together, they were powerless to defeat the two dominant clubs. After this show of strength, they were usually forced to choose one side or the other. After all, the Night Watch's "Word Spirits and Disciplines" enveloped the academy, preventing anyone except Dragon King-level foes from using Word Spirits. And without Word Spirits, even the strongest hybrids couldn't withstand the suppression of firepower from firearms.

But this year, a "variable" appeared. Nero loves playing games and hates it when others play games without her, so she must participate in this competition.

She darted swiftly across treetops, walltops, and rooftops. Her speed and agility made her difficult to target, and those who attempted to shoot only ended up damaging school assets in vain. Then Nero found his target and leaped down, knocking several black-clad student council members out of cover. The few who were left exposed in the square were instantly shot by the Lionheart Society and forced to retreat.

The other student council members immediately switched targets, targeting Nero, who posed a greater threat. The Lionheart members seemed a bit confused, wondering if Nero was on their side.

However, Nero actually had no preference between the Student Council and the Lionheart Society, and he wasn't planning on helping either side win. He only attacked the Student Council first because they were dressed in black and their president, Caesar, was Italian.

The word "black" in Italian means "Nero," and these people have the same attributes as Nero. So Nero was a little annoyed with the students and decided to target them first.

Facing countless gunshots aimed at him, Nero calmly picked up a submachine gun and squeezed the trigger, emptying all the bullets. This time, the trajectory of the sweep formed a semicircle, forcing the student union members to retreat back into their shelter.

Without hesitation, she threw away her empty submachine gun, picked up a nearby rifle, jumped onto the roof, and fled, leaving the Black team's commander roaring angrily on the intercom.

"Take it."

Nero returned and threw the confiscated rifle through the window to Lu Mingfei, who had taken advantage of Nero's distraction to hide on the second floor of a small building. He also left a spare magazine, saying, "There are at least sixty rounds left, enough for you."

Lu Mingfei looked at the gun beside him and said with a sad face, "Sister, I really don't dare to kill anyone." But Nero had already walked away. She didn't have time to slowly explain to Lu Mingfei that there would be no casualties in this gunfight. If Lu Mingfei hadn't been such a coward and didn't dare to look at Finger's "corpse", he would have known that Finger's back was only covered in "blood". How could a real sniper rifle be so powerful?
It was obvious that he was really scared and didn't remember what Fingle had said before.

But Nero didn't actually feel he needed Lu Mingfei's help. Both the Red and Black factions were her firepower support; giving him a gun was simply to give him a sense of participation. The Student Union and the Lionheart Society, Caesar and Chu Zihang—these two pairs were sworn enemies. A sworn enemy meant that even if I lost, I wouldn't stand for you winning. If a third party intervened, I wouldn't hesitate to hold the other person back. Unless it came to a matter of fundamental principle, there was absolutely no chance of mutual assistance between the two sides.

After causing some chaos in the Black side's rear, Nero, adhering to the principle of fairness and justice, is going to take action against the Lionheart Society this time.

She pulled out the pistol she had just snatched from the student council member and vanished from everyone's sight like a ghost. Only Lu Mingfei, who had been aiming at her, saw clearly that Nero instantly crouched on the ground, blocking everyone's view with a bush. Then, she quickly moved back and forth between different shadows, shaking off everyone's attention in just four moves!
The small building where Lu Mingfei was located was the only blind spot from which he could see her.

"Do you have to be so handsome?" Lu Mingfei muttered as he raised his gun and kept his aim closely behind Nero, always paying attention to whether there were any enemies nearby.

Even though he had picked up the gun, he was still wrestling with a fierce internal struggle. Shooting in military training was one thing, but shooting someone was another. Nero seemed to trust him, but he truly felt he couldn't live up to that trust.

Aim at the target, pull the trigger, and the bullet hits—three simple steps. Lu Mingfei likes simple things because they are easy to accomplish, which is why he’s such a good target shooter. But when the “target” becomes a living person, things suddenly become more complicated. Lu Mingfei’s finger is on the trigger, but it feels like a thousand pounds.

Lu Mingfei knew that this was the so-called "weight of life."

"There's nothing to worry about. They are your enemies, and enemies should die. Isn't that right?"

The boy in black reappeared in the corner of the room, but Lu Mingfei ignored him. What mattered now wasn't these hallucinations, but Nero, who was darting between countless gun barrels.

She handed the gun to Lu Mingfei, and her back to him. If Lu Mingfei had to pull the trigger at this moment, he hoped it was for one reason only.

And that reason wouldn't be to kill the enemy.
