Chapter 215 Mission: 07-4 Operation to Exorcise Demons
As mentioned before, the canopy of the small garden was created to allow vampires, ghosts, and other creatures afraid of sunlight to move around during the day. It just so happens that there are many such creatures within the outer gate of 666710. If the canopy is opened now, they will likely face a catastrophe when the sun rises again.
From this perspective, the game countdown has an additional layer of meaning.
However, the prerequisite is that they can really live until the sun rises.
Evil spirits, gargoyles, ghouls, and other cruel creatures that cannot coexist with humans and are rarely seen in the small garden now appear within this outer gate. They are the speed boosters prepared by the "Six Hundred and Sixty-Six Beasts" for the game. Because they lose their minds and attack humans, they are prone to attacking other contestants and dying in the process. In theory, their blood and magic power will be absorbed by the Demon World Tree, continuously replenishing Urizen's spiritual power.
And this is exactly what Nero and V want to stop at this moment.
Facing the ethereal ghost that was emitting endless clones, Nero used Samael's scythe form to continuously cut off strands of soul from the air, causing the ghost to emit silent screams that were so severe that it caused unbearable headaches.
V, who was weaker than Nero, let the shadow transform into a sphere and wrap himself inside. The resurrected Griffin flapped his wings and turned into a bright ball of electricity, burning all the souls it touched into smoke.
In a way, they were also racing against time. As the Son of Sparda, V could directly absorb the magical energy of demons and other spiritual beings, even if it was incomplete, to retrieve the "Mark of the Beast." If V had first acquired the majority of the "Mark of the Beast," then Urizen would unfortunately not be able to fully inherit the power of the Demon World Tree.
"I believe Sparta doesn't want his son to inherit this power." V said.
Seeing the time was almost right, V, freed from the effects of the scream, emerged from the shadows' protection. He snapped his fingers, softly called out "Nightmare," and his hair instantly turned from pitch black to silver-white, while simultaneously fleeing through the shadows.
A dark meteor fell from the sky. V stood behind the meteor and opened the poem in his hand.
"When sin spreads its wings and rages in battle, it rejoices in the flood of death; when souls are burned to ashes by eternal fire, the devils of hell rejoice in slaughter."
Meteors crashed, sending dust flying. A twisted giant rose from the scars of the earth, its single, bright eye emitting a blazing white beam. The light spun and swept across the ground, burning everything it touched.
As if to lament the light of God's wrath, V slowly chanted the last line of this section of the poem.
"Alas! Who can bear it?"
With a "snap" sound, V closed the poetry collection in his hand. The dark giant seemed to distort the space and turned into a singularity and disappeared. V's hair instantly turned back to black.
"Hey, hey! My great poet, the enemy has not yet fallen!"
Griffin was clearly very unhappy with V's cool behavior. After releasing a series of scattered lightning balls, he quickly reminded him, "You're not really going to let me pick at them one by one like bugs, are you?"
However, for the now weakened V, summoning a powerful weapon like "Nightmare" couldn't sustain it for long. Therefore, he didn't respond to Griffin's screams, but simply slipped through the thinning ghosts in the shadows, waving his staff and dispersing two of them.
A massive sickle whirled past Griffin's head, its icy blade practically brushing against his neck. With a startled "Quack!", Nero yanked the serpentine sword, sending the sickle spinning through the air like a boomerang before returning to her hand.
"That's so rude of you, girl!"
Despite Griffin's words, the ghosts that emerged from the evil spirits dwindled considerably after Nero's attack. The Angel of Death's scythe was a powerful weapon against such psychic creatures, and the ghosts vanished almost immediately upon approach. Griffin spun quickly in the air once more, using lightning to sweep away the last of them.
Then, Shadow flung V like a trampoline, allowing him to finish off his enemy with his staff. Griffin then relayed the blow mid-air, flapping his wings with some difficulty as he landed slowly with V. "The third one?" Nero sheathed his scythe and looked toward the tree in the city, which seemed to be taking shape.
"Not nearly enough."
V replied, sliding across the ground in his shadow, searching for his next opponent without stopping. When Nero caught up, he whispered a "thank you" without even turning around.
“This is the third sentence.”
"V must have taken the wrong medicine today." Griffin, flying above V, turned around and said, "I've never seen him talk so much."
As it flew over Nero's head and turned back to V, it chuckled, "But maybe it was the right thing to eat. Who knows?"
"You're still as noisy as ever."
V coldly scolded Griffin: "I advise you to keep your mouth shut."
"I ate the wrong thing after all. V, we've known each other for such a long time, you can't just—"
"Watch your mouth."
"alright."
Ahead of them, the next enemy loomed faintly against the night sky. It was a being radiating a golden-red glow, like a flaming firebird. Just approaching, Nero and V's mouths dried out, and drops of water oozed from their foreheads.
"Oh my god, this guy looks way cooler than me. Is this guy a demon too?"
"A descendant of Hanba." V said calmly, as if he had known this all along. "A divine beast with the spirit of a 'ghost.' It's a pity its bloodline is so thin, and its mind has been completely lost through generations."
The mythical Ba originally depicted a celestial maiden, endowed with the power to control light and heat and dispel clouds and fog. Legend has it that she exhausted her divine powers to help the emperor defeat Chiyou, ultimately unable to return to heaven and instead became the drought deity, Hanba, stranded on earth.
As time went by, Hanba was feared and driven away because she would bring drought, and eventually she turned from a celestial being into an evil ghost.
The "Ba Bird" that now appeared before Nero and V was a vicious beast that inherited their bloodline, but it lacked the powerful power of the mythical creature. Although it still brought drought to wherever it went, the scope of its impact was now very small.
Possessing the spirit of a "ghost", it is also a mindless beast.
"Do it."
At the same time that V spoke, Griffin had already gathered a bright lightning in his body and shot it straight towards the "Ba Bird".
