Doomsday Traveler

Chapter 13: South and North

Chapter 13: South and North
Lu Xian finally persuaded Yao Wei not to go back to the woods to look for the pig bones they had left behind.

He told Yao Wei that pork bone soup requires a lot of time to cook at high temperature. They will be on the road and it is not good to waste the firewood they collected with great difficulty, so it is best not to cook pork bone soup.

——Firewood that can be ignited is also a necessity for survival, so Yao Wei collected some in her car and piled it in the corner of the trunk.

Before, when she was in the woods, if it weren't for the sudden cold front, she would have wanted to chop some more firewood to replenish the supplies in the car.

Unfortunately, gasoline is too flammable and unsafe, otherwise she would store some in the car.

The car drove straight to the previous gas station. There were only three words "Jia Youzhan" left on the sign on the roof, and the rest were lost. Therefore, this was the third time Lu Xian and Yao Wei had visited here, but they still didn't know the name of this gas station.

Yao Wei drove the car to the intact gas pump. The two of them and the dog checked it as before. After confirming that there was no problem, Lu Xian instructed the dog to connect the circuit of the gas pump and refuel.

The dog was originally connecting the air conditioner to the power supply at the back. After hearing Lu Xian's instructions, it pushed the air conditioner plug out directly without Lu Xian's help. Some unknown parts were working inside.

The dog didn't even wait for Lu Xian to open the back door for him. He just turned the wheel and bounced his legs, jumping onto the front passenger seat and out of the passenger door.

Then it rolled the wheels on its four dog legs into the station building for inspection, without making any sound.

“It’s become much easier to use.”

Lu Xian smiled, very satisfied with this.

When Yao Wei looked at the dog hanging on the electric box, she could no longer hide the envy in her eyes.

She still habitually avoided waste, and quickly filled the car with gas, and asked Lu Xian to instruct the mechanical dog to cut off the power.

"Okay, turn off the power and get in the car."

Lu Xian then gave an order to the mechanical dog. The dog disconnected the circuit, fell to the ground, and with its wheels spinning, it arrived next to Yao Wei's car.

Lu Xian looked at it with envy, feeling that the wheels were very easy and labor-saving to slide on, and thought that it would be great if he had such a skill.

Gou Zi and Lu Xian both got into the car. Yao Wei put the gas pump back, closed the fuel tank cap, got in the car, started it, and continued driving west.

Lu Xian originally planned to ask Gou Zi to turn on the air conditioner again, but Yao Wei stopped him.

Yao Wei said, "Save the fluorine for cold weather."

Lu Xian felt that Yao Wei's opinion made sense, so he gave up.

It's always bearable to open the windows in the car when it's hot, but when the weather is extremely cold, it's really unbearable if there is no air conditioning.

After passing the resting place and driving forward for a long time, a big river suddenly blocked the way.

The river is more than 100 meters wide, and the water flows slowly, flowing slowly downstream.

Fortunately, there is a bridge across the river that is two lanes wide and can accommodate vehicles.

The asphalt road on the bridge is cracked and looks dilapidated, which makes people worry whether the bridge can withstand the weight of a car and two people.

But Yao Wei was clearly not worried about that. She turned around, went to the back seat, and took out a pair of binoculars from her backpack. She used them to carefully scan the bridge, the river, and the other side of the river to confirm whether these places were safe.

"Telescope? What a great thing!"

Lu Xian couldn't help but feel envious when he saw what Yao Wei was holding in front of him.

He also did his best to play a role, picking up the mechanical dog from under his feet and placing it on the front dashboard, and ordered, "Dog, please help check if there is any danger ahead."

The dog immediately used its two dog eyes to scan forward, left, right, up and down, and then flashed a gleam in its eyes at Lu Xian.

Lu Xian understood and said to Yao Wei, "There is no danger ahead."

Yao Wei put away the binoculars and glanced at Lu Xian. As the car drove onto the bridge, there was indeed no danger.

Continuing forward, Lu Xian turned his head to the right and could see the gurgling water under the bridge through the gap at the bottom of the bridge railing. He asked Yao Wei, "Where are we going west?"

"Go south."

Yao Wei said, "It's too cold in the north to survive. Going directly south is dangerous, but heading west is safer."

Lu Xian remembered what Yao Wei said, "This is not the South yet."

“Is the South a good place to live?”

he asked.

Yao Wei said, "It's better than the north."

Lu Xian asked: "Then why did you come here?"

Yao Wei shook her head and said, "Someone else said that."

She paused, then continued, "Only those who can no longer fight will hide in the north to survive."

This sentence has many more words than her previous one, but compared to the amount of information it contains, it is still too short.

But Lu Xian still understood——

Compared to here, the weather in the south is probably not as changeable and extreme, and is more suitable for human survival, but the conflicts there are bound to be very serious.

Those who were defeated in the battle and could not survive in the south had no choice but to flee north, or be driven north, to this wild and harsh place, where their life and death depended on fate.

"I'll find a relatively safe place to put you down, don't worry."

When they finally finished walking on the bridge, Yao Wei said this to Lu Xian.

Lu Xian's mouth twitched and he said, "Thank you."

He thought for a moment and then asked, "What about you? Where are you going?"

Yao Wei said, "I have an atlas in my backpack."

Lu Xian understood what she meant, and imitated Yao Wei's actions to turn to the back and found a palm-sized pocket book from Yao Wei's bag.

His movements were not as flexible and smooth as Yao Wei's, but they were still quick and decisive. After taking the pocket book, he returned to the front passenger seat.

The cover of the pocket book looked like a world map, with the five big words "World Atlas 1" written on it.

The plates of the entire world on the map were relatively concentrated, unlike the seven continents in his previous life. At a glance, Lu Xian saw that the map of the world seemed to be divided into four continents, one at each of the North and South Poles, and two in the middle.

After sitting in the front passenger seat, Lu Xian took another look at the cover. There were a few small words under the five big words "World Atlas 1", which read: Newly Revised Practical Edition.

After opening it, he knew how to practice the new method——

The atlas is divided into chapters by region and city. City roads and landmarks are clearly marked, as are gas stations.

Lu Xian found the Jiangyu District of Taipei City through the directory index, and then saw several gas signs on it. Three of them on the east side had been marked with an X.

"Help me get a pen and tick this."

Yao Wei suddenly pointed to the gas station icon at the westernmost position on the map and said.
