Chapter 37 Night Patrol
After Li Ming finished speaking, Mingwu was stunned and showed a thoughtful expression.

Li Mingze continued, "So, these boxing routines we practice to fight the enemy have all been modified and refined by our predecessors. Our countermeasures are indeed ingenious, but they are often only suitable for certain times and situations. I think it would be difficult to rely on accumulating such exquisite moves to break the world's martial arts."

Ming Jing's face changed immediately when these words were spoken, and she looked at Ming Wu nervously.

This statement was tantamount to completely denying Mingwu's idea. Mingjing was really a little afraid that Mingxin would offend Mingwu. In other words, Mingxin's words were more tactful. If he had spoken more harshly, it might have been a tone of criticism and instruction.

Unexpectedly, Mingwu was very calm and nodded, saying, "Master said so too."

The four knew that he was talking about Fa Zheng, the head monk of Damo Academy, and Mingwu was also Fa Zheng's most talented disciple.

"Oh, then why are you still here, senior brother?" Mingde asked curiously.

"Because I believe that everything in the world has its limits. As long as I put everything into my records, I will definitely be able to crack the martial arts of the world!" Mingwu's face showed some fanaticism.

Li Ming could only smile and said, "Senior Brother, you have lofty ambitions. I underestimated you."

Mingwu said cheerfully, "That's all right. Junior brother, you've also mastered some good boxing. We can spar with each other sometime. Don't worry, I won't overpower you with force. It's just a contest of techniques."

Li Ming agreed immediately, and the five of them chatted for a few more minutes before dispersing.

Mingjing and Li Ming were obviously exhausted and could not continue practicing martial arts, so they went back to the bedroom to rest.

Neither of them spoke in the room, it was very quiet. After a long while, Ming Jing suddenly spoke.

"Thank you."

"Thank you for what?"

"Junior Brother Mingxin, do you know my real name?"

"do not know"

Ming Jing suddenly sighed, but Li Ming spoke first, "Brother, since you've become a monk, put your worldly past aside. Don't dwell on it, or it will only cause you pain."

Ming Jing paused for a moment, then said, "Junior brother, you are right."

After that, Li Ming began to recite scriptures in a very soft voice.

"When Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva was practicing the profound Prajnaparamita, he saw that the five aggregates were empty and was able to transcend all suffering.

"Shariputra, form is not different from emptiness, emptiness is not different from form. Form is emptiness, emptiness is form. Similarly, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness are all like this. Shariputra, all dharmas are empty in nature, neither arising nor ceasing, neither defiled nor pure, neither increasing nor decreasing."

Therefore, in the void there is no form, no feeling, no perception, no volition, no consciousness; no eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, or mind; no color, sound, smell, taste, touch, or dharma; no realm of vision, and even no realm of consciousness. There is no ignorance, nor is there an end to ignorance; even no old age and death, nor is there an end to old age and death. There is no suffering, no accumulation, no extinction, no path; no wisdom, and no attainment. Because there is nothing to attain, bodhisattvas rely on the prajna paramita. Their minds are free from attachment, and because they are free from attachment, they are free from fear, free from delusions, dreams, and suffering. All the Buddhas of the three ages, who attain ultimate nirvana, rely on the prajna paramita."

At some point, Mingjing joined in, and the two of them recited the "Amitabha Sutra" and the "Diamond Sutra" again.

At this point, the room returned to silence. Mingjing said nothing, but her breathing became even and steady. Li Ming smiled slightly and said nothing more.

Then his face changed. It was over. He was looking more and more like a monk.

Soon, a bell rang, signaling everyone to the main hall for evening prayers. Mingjing and Li Ming immediately rose and left the room. When the prayers were over, the four of them were stopped by a senior disciple named Minglu. If Mingwu was considered the most skilled martial artist of his generation at the Dharma Academy, then Minglu was the most outstanding disciple at the Discipline Academy. He was a man of integrity, and everyone knew him, but they didn't know why he had come to them.

Minglü first clasped his hands together and chanted a Buddhist name before speaking, "Four junior brothers, you've been at the Dharma Academy for some time now, so you have some foundation. Now, I need to assign you to participate in night patrols and other miscellaneous tasks. I'm here to inform you. Please follow me."

The four of them looked at each other and were not surprised. The monks of the Dharma Academy of Guangde Temple were originally responsible for protecting the temple, so arranging people to patrol was also a proper etiquette. Without thinking too much, they all followed.

After walking a short distance, they arrived at the mountain gate. At this moment, many senior brothers had lined up and were waiting. Minglu turned around and said to the four of them, "Wait a moment." Then he took two steps forward and started chatting with the senior brother who was obviously the leader of the team. After a few words, the two nodded to each other.

Ming Lu then walked over and said, "This is Brother Ming Jie, who's in charge of the patrol team. I've just made an agreement with him that you'll all join the patrol team starting today. Don't worry, it's a rotation, with five people in each team. At night, the two teams will take turns, and the shifts will last seven days. It won't affect your martial arts training too much."

The four of them stepped forward to greet him. Mingjie nodded and said, "We only need two people today. We'll have two more people tomorrow. You can discuss this among yourselves. From now on, this will be the order. Unless it's urgent, the order cannot be changed at will."

Ming Jing thought for a moment and said, "Junior Brother Ming Xin and I will be on duty today. Junior Brothers, please come back tomorrow."

Mingde and Mingliang didn't care. They agreed without thinking and then went back to their room.

Mingjing and Li Ming followed Mingjie into the team.

Mingjie took out two more discipline sticks and handed them to the two men, saying, "I don't know if you've practiced stick techniques, but since you're going to be patrolling at night, you'll need something in your hands. Take it first. Anyway, our Guangde Temple is very peaceful, so you probably won't need it. If something really happens, you won't be able to help."

As Mingjie spoke, a smile appeared on his resolute face, and he seemed very kind.

"By the way, it's a bit cold at night. Do you want to change into something thicker? Forget it, I'll arrange for you to patrol in the first half of the night. It's getting late."

"Minghui, Mingzhi, Mingli, you take the two of them and come to take over the shift at midnight." Mingjie said to the monks over there.

"Yes, Senior Brother Mingjie!"

The three of them answered in unison, and Mingjie nodded and left.

After Mingjie left, the five of them formed a team and walked in the temple at a fixed speed and route. Mingjing wanted to say hello to them and chat with them.

But Minghui stopped them, saying, "It's not good to be seen by the elders while you're on patrol gossiping."

Ming Jing could only smile awkwardly, feeling a bit embarrassed, but Ming Hui added, "When we get to the back of the mountain, there won't be anyone there, so we can chat for a while."

After saying this, he smiled.

But when they finally reached the back of the mountain, the cold wind was as sharp as a steel knife scraping at the bones. Minghui then spoke again, "Why don't you use your internal energy to keep warm? And remember to change into thick clothes next time you go on night patrol."

"I've got it. Thank you for your advice, senior brother." Mingjing nodded in thanks.

When they got near the back mountain, the other three people became noticeably more active, and some even took the initiative to talk to the two of them.

After all, they are all monks from the Dharma Academy. They see each other every day, but they just haven't had the chance to get to know each other. Now, patrolling together at night is an opportunity to break the ice.
