Chapter 75 Nicolas Flamel Surely Couldn't Refuse This
The next morning, after receiving the letter saying "something happened to Cohen", Mr. and Mrs. Norton hurried to the school via the Floo Network - they had previously gone to the Ministry of Magic to apply for access to the Floo Network in order to take Cohen on trips.
In Cohen's ward, Edward sat silently beside Cohen's bed, looking at Cohen's already cold body - he originally thought that "something happened to Cohen" meant that Cohen accidentally sucked away someone's soul.
Rose was confronting Dumbledore on the side.
"Cohen wrote us the day before yesterday, saying he was studying for his final exams—and you tell me today that he died right under your nose?!"
Rose questioned Dumbledore like a tiger.
"You clearly—he belongs to me and Edward—you—"
Because of her excessive grief, Rose was choked with sobs and could hardly utter the second half of her sentence.
"I understand how you feel. This is all my fault," Dumbledore said calmly, blaming himself. "I will—"
"You don't understand shit!" Rose roared, her eyes red. "You don't have a son! You're just watching—watching him—"
"Rose..." Edward moved closer to the emotionally broken Rose and put his arm around her shoulders so that she could have a place to cry.
"I didn't hide the truth to evade my responsibilities," Dumbledore said, "because I understand that lies cannot alleviate the pain brought by 'love'. Coin is a brave and kind child, and I believe we all see this."
"I would rather he was a little evil...as long as I can survive..." Rose sobbed, no longer having the strong look she used to have.
"He will receive the school's special contribution award—"
"He is dead," said Edward, looking up at Dumbledore. "Now for the awards—"
"I am not saying that Cohen's death is a cause for joy." Dumbledore interrupted him in a rare moment. "His sacrifice to protect the Philosopher's Stone deserves any reward in the world—but none of these rewards can bring back a life, only a memory that we can see."
"Wait a minute..." Edward suddenly had a strange idea, "Could Cohen be..."
Edward didn't say it out loud, but the meaning was clear.
As a wicked hybrid of dark magic, raised in a school of the "greatest" white wizard in the world, and then died at the speed of light in less than a year - it's easy to imagine...
"I have not, have not, and will not harm Cohen."
Dumbledore looked like an ordinary old man.
"Where's that damn Quirrell?"
Rose left Edward's arms, leaving large tear stains on the front of his clothes - she looked like she had finished crying, and she had pulled out her wand at some point and held it tightly in her hand like a knife.
"He died an hour after Voldemort left his body," Dumbledore replied.
Cohen was now ready to crawl inside the body, then move his fingers first—like those resurrection plots in TV dramas—and get back up.
Because after drawing their swords and looking around in confusion, Rose and Edward planned to take Cohen away for burial. They were so engrossed in watching the show that they forgot about the resurrection.
But Dumbledore's next words made Cohen's soul, which had originally entered his body, come out again.
"I have a request of yours," Dumbledore said. "Could you please keep Coin's body here for a while?"
"What?" Edward asked, frowning. "I'm sorry, I didn't catch that—"
"A remedy. The research that created Cohen is a forbidden area of alchemy that no one has ever successfully entered - the Man in the Bottle. I noticed that the Philosopher's Stone dissolved into his flesh and blood after coming into contact with him. According to common sense, the magic power of the Philosopher's Stone will always be stored in this body, but this morning I found that it disappeared. This is very abnormal." Dumbledore explained:
"The stone belongs to my friend Nicolas Flamel. For whatever reason, I thought he should come and examine it, even though he has previously mentioned to me that he wants to join his wife in the afterlife."
"The remedy you're talking about—is—" Edward swallowed, "Cohen—"
"Is there still hope..." Rose stared at Dumbledore.
"Niko is extremely knowledgeable in alchemy. He might be able to offer a way to save Cohen."
"Why didn't you say so earlier!" Edward cried out, "Ha—I knew Cohen wouldn't die so easily—he has us..."
"I don't want to create hope with my own hands and then have it shattered. That would be too cruel."
Dumbledore reminded:
"I don't understand why the magic of the Philosopher's Stone suddenly vanished, so I suspect Cohen's soul is still in or around his body. Nico arrived this afternoon. Please don't extend your anger and resentment towards him. He was unaware of this matter and is not at fault."
Cohen's original intention of getting up from the bed and shouting "surprise" disappeared in an instant.
Now that the Philosopher's Stone has been eaten by Cohen, the master alchemist certainly cannot get it back.
And Nicolas Flamel was dying—Cohen felt he could try a little harder and see if he could inherit some of Nicolas's estate—and he had no son.
And just like Hagrid couldn't refuse a unicorn asking for butterbeer, Coin had an offer Nico couldn't refuse...
Cohen is the only "man in a bottle" experimental subject in the world who can live for such a long time.
-
Dumbledore left here, and the school still had many affairs that needed his attention, so the news of Cohen's death did not spread among the students.
Edward and Rose stayed with Cohen.
Since he was not hurt, Harry woke up today and sneaked into Cohen's ward to see if Professor Dumbledore had saved Cohen.
"..."
Harry saw the Nortons, who had come to Cohen's side at some point, and for a moment he didn't know what to say.
"Um...Mr. Norton, Mrs. Norton..." Harry hesitated.
He noticed that Mrs. Norton's eyes were slightly red, and the words he wanted to ask, "How is Cohen?" were swallowed back into his stomach.
"Sorry……"
That was all Harry could think of.
"It's not your fault, Harry." Rose comforted Harry melancholy. She was much more rational now - she only hoped that Nicolas Flamel could rescue Coin.
Harry, after apologizing several more times, fled.
Edward kept thinking about what Dumbledore said - the Philosopher's Stone that could make people immortal had dissolved in Cohen's body and disappeared...
Dumbledore's meaning was very clear. The magic of the Philosopher's Stone would not disappear out of thin air. Since it was not in Cohen's body, it meant that Cohen's soul had eaten them.
In other words, Cohen's soul is still here...
Could Cohen hear them?
