Chapter 202: "No one in their right mind would give up the Chimera to study the Assassin"
"Cohen—come back!" Seeing Cohen still lying next to the fence, Hermione hurried forward and pulled Cohen back.
"Looks like Hagrid's messed up first period." Ron shuddered. "They're scary - and that noise."
"At least the other students haven't run away..." Harry sighed and looked back at the students who were hiding behind the nearby tree trunks and looking out.
Hagrid managed to calm Buckbeak down, and after feeding him a large fish from the lake, Buckbeak finally stopped trying to attack Coin.
"Ah... what should I do in this situation..." Hagrid seemed confused, because no student dared to approach the enclosure now, even though Hagrid said they would not do anything extreme -
"Explain the habits of this creature," Hermione whispered to Hagrid, "using a safe method..."
There was no other way at the moment, so Hagrid had to give up the idea of letting the students touch the animals with their own hands, and the whole class was completed in a safe way - although Hagrid's teaching ability was far inferior to his practical ability.
"At least no one was hurt."
Hermione said soothingly to Hagrid after the Care of Magical Creatures class.
Cohen and others stayed for a while because Cohen still wanted to talk to Hagrid about the unicorn.
"They're a bit dangerous if we touch them..." said Ron.
"Only those who are approved by the Hippogriffs can approach and touch them." Hagrid shook his head. "They won't suddenly attack when you touch them...but today's situation is indeed a bit strange...They look like they smell something dangerous..."
"Maybe I just touched some other dangerous animals a few days ago?" Cohen said.
"They know Norbert's scent, and they didn't get mad at me when I took Norbert with me before..." said Hagrid.
"Not Norbert," Coln explained. "I brought a few other animals into the box—"
"Other animals?!" Hagrid's originally depressed mood was suddenly lifted by Cohen, "What - oh, right!"
Hagrid smacked his head.
"I almost forgot something—I have a question for you. I've been so busy preparing for the lessons these past few days that I'm a little dizzy... The centaurs said you took all the unicorns away?"
"Yes, they insisted on following Ali and me," said Cohen. "So the centaurs want them back?"
"That's not the case," said Hagrid. "The centaurs seem quite calm. They think it's in line with the astrological omen for you to take the unicorn away. I'm just a little worried about whether you can take care of it - I remember several unicorns were about to give birth last year..."
"It's already born. That's why I came to you. What kind of grass do the little unicorns eat? They seem to have lost their appetite recently," said Cohen.
"Ah, some alfalfa and clover," said Hagrid with experience. "I've got some grass seeds here... wait... I'll look for it..."
Hagrid found two large bags of grass seeds for Cohen. With the unicorn's magic of ripening plants, these grasses will grow soon -
"So what are those other animals?" Hagrid asked eagerly after he finished with the unicorn.
"Oh, Hagrid, you're going to like this," chuckled Ron. "With a basilisk."
"A basilisk!" exclaimed Hagrid. "I thought you killed it last year!"
"That was the ending announced to the public. In fact, they are all kept peacefully in my box." Cohen said, "In addition to the basilisk, I think there is another creature you will want to see..." "The manticore?" Hagrid asked hopefully, "I have always wanted to try to breed it with the fire crab..."
"Don't breed the animals in my box!" Cohen warned in advance. "I want to introduce them to you to make you happy - I have a Chimera in my box."
"Chimera!" roared Hagrid happily.
"Don't bring it into class..." Hermione said worriedly.
"Don't be silly Hermione."
Hagrid waved his large hand.
Hermione thought Hagrid had finally realized how dangerous and illegal Chimeras were.
"No one in their right mind would be willing to study the Thorn and give up the Chimera. I'll use it to teach you when I'm ready. It will definitely be safe!" Hagrid assured.
-
However, Hagrid's beautiful idea was doomed to fail. Cohen would not lend the Chimera to Hagrid for class. Firstly, no matter which head it was, it did not like to mix with many wizards. Secondly, the lion head was a little too lively. Students might touch its head and it would lick it off in one bite - in the physical sense of the word, or at worst, its face would be covered with blood marks from the barbs.
Cohen returned to Hagrid's hut in the afternoon with the box and introduced Sissoko and the Chimera to Hagrid - which made Hagrid quite happy.
"Doesn't this Chimera have a name?" Hagrid asked Cohen with some regret.
"We don't need names," said the Black Goat. "It's enough to call ourselves by our respective races."
"It's so beautiful..."
Hagrid stroked the lion's head, tears welling in his eyes - though Coin had a feeling it was because the lion had bitten his left hand.
"I've never seen a live Chimera before." After leaving the box, Hagrid said to Cohen with emotion, "Where did you get it? I've always wanted to get Chimera eggs... but I never had the chance..."
Chimeras reproduce parthenogenetically - Hagrid has been begging Cohen to leave an egg for him since he got out of the box, but Cohen refused.
By the time Hagrid reluctantly let Cohen and his box go, it was almost evening.
The Dementors were floating around the outskirts of the school grounds, and none of them entered the school. Cohen had to go a long way around the edge of the Forbidden Forest to get to where the Dementors were.
Are you hungry?
A Dementor spotted Cohen and approached him enthusiastically.
[I'm not hungry now. I need your help with something.] Cohen said to it, [Tell the other Dementors, if you catch the escaped prisoner, don't eat him. Leave him for me.]
They were naturally happy to give whatever the kids wanted—especially to a hungry kid like Cohen.
After Cohen made his request, it began to float around and pass the message to other Dementors - but Cohen's last reminder was of no use at all, and a Dementor still dragged a fresh living person to Cohen.
"Help!" said the seemingly innocent passerby from nearby Hogsmeade. "Are you a student at Hogwarts? Help me!"
[I told you, you don’t have to send me these lunch boxes…] Cohen helplessly criticized the Dementor that brought him food.
