Chapter 160: Philip Fly Tracking Expedition
Chapter 160: Philip Fly Tracking Expedition
But the two "flesh and blood puppets" are different, they are at least somewhat useful.
When they first arrived, they were just a vague human shape, covered all over with a layer of soft gray substance, looking like mannequins in a shopping mall.
According to Cohen's transformation needs, they can change into various appearances, but puppets are just puppets. They have no AI brain and no other advanced functions. They can only act like non-automated robots and perform whatever actions Cohen gives them.
However, there is one thing that makes them different from normal dolls - they can resist some spells, such as destructive black magic and evil curses. Spells will destroy their bodies, but flesh puppets can heal themselves, which is very energy-saving and environmentally friendly.
For others, this puppet that can block gunshots seems quite useful.
But it was different for Cohen.
Most curses and hexes were useless to Cohen, who didn't need anything to block the attack.
The only thing that might need to be blocked is the Patronus spell...but a flesh and blood puppet that exists as a material being cannot block the illusory Patronus.
"What the hell did you come up with?"
The Earl poked his head out of his nest and happened to see Coin making one of the puppets look like Dumbledore.
"Good boy—you made two **** dolls!"
"What kind of doll would pinch Dumbledore's face!" Cohen said angrily.
"Grindelwald," the Earl said reasonably, "what are you going to do with them? If you want to do it in this room - I can pretend to be asleep -"
"This is part of my next evil plan," said Coin grimly. "I'm going to use this to destroy the entire wizarding world, and the entire owl community."
"As expected, you students should do your homework every day," the Earl smacked his lips. "Once you don't do your homework or attend classes, you'll start doing dangerous things."
Of course, the flesh puppets currently pose no danger to the wizarding world. After studying them for a while, Cohen threw them into the box.
The little basilisk liked them very much because Cohen finally changed these two flesh and blood puppets into his own appearance, which allowed the little basilisk to finally crawl onto "Cohen".
Sissoko and the old basilisk had already chosen a name for the little basilisk. They chose Sofia. Sissoko claimed in front of the old basilisk that he could understand English, but in fact he learned the pronunciation of the word from Cohen secretly.
The word comes from the Greek word for "wisdom". Cohen doesn't think the basilisk has anything to do with the word wisdom. Sissoko probably chose this name simply because its first letter S looks like a snake, and it happens to be in the middle of the S page of the roster - it is easy to notice it at a glance.
But it's like this when naming. Many names are decided on the spur of the moment. What's important is not the literal meaning of the name, but what the name implies.
However, the old basilisk ultimately had no name - Sissoko wanted to give it a name more than once, but it refused.
According to the old basilisk, it may eventually want to travel around the world, just like Sissoko said, find a female snake, lay a nest of eggs, and then lie in one place and wait to die.
"Why are you all so lazy?"
Cohen had always felt that Sissoko was an outlier among the basilisks, but now it seemed as if it was a racial trait.
Snakes are just lazy.
"But Sophia seems different. It looks like it wants to swallow the entire Earth." Cohen looked at the little basilisk that was opening its mouth wide to swallow the puppet's head. He felt that making the puppet look like him might easily lead the little basilisk astray. "Maybe we should call it Jörmungandr."
"Maybe it's just puberty..." Sissoko guessed, "I had a big appetite when I was a kid too. I wanted to eat everything, like the cows and sheep raised by wizards."
"What happened next?" "I was hit by a few spells and chased by wizards for a long way." Sissoko recalled, "But I ran away, so it was a bit rude of him to think about blowing up my nest—"
"It seems like we already know the wizard's fate." Cohen felt there was no need to listen anymore.
On the last day of Easter vacation, Cohen met Luna on his way back to the eighth floor after lunch.
"Hello, Cohen." Luna greeted Cohen ethereally, "Thank you for saving my father. He told me what happened in the cave."
"What—oh, yes, about Mr. Lovegood."
Cohen remembered that he had indeed met Luna's father in the cave of the Silver Key.
However, it was somewhat surprising that he told Luna that he was "rescued by Cohen" instead of "happened to meet Cohen".
"I brought you a gift." Luna searched in the small bag on her waist and pulled out something that looked like a ticket. It said "Ticket to the Philip Fly Tracking Expedition."
"What's a Philip fly?" Cohen frowned.
I've read quite a few books myself - at least I've read books like "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" and "A Thousand Legendary Creatures That Haven't Extinct".
Like the Scimitar-Horned Snorkeller, it may be a figment of imagination.
"A kind of large fly that lives behind vultures. However, they don't eat carrion, but various berries and peaches." Luna explained to Cohen very happily, "They can imitate the calls of vultures by rubbing their hands together, and they can also refract light with their eyes..."
Cohen had little interest in the fictional, berry-eating fly, but politely thanked him anyway.
"The expedition will leave during the summer vacation. Dad and I will go. Our destination is Peru," Luna said excitedly. "If we find the Philippine Fly, The Quibbler can publish their photos, and then we'll have the funds to go to Sweden to look for the Scimitar-horned Snorkeller."
"But you're busy during the summer vacation, so you won't be able to join the Philip Fly tracking expedition," Luna continued.
"How do you know that?" Cohen asked.
He hadn't even given his excuse yet, so how come Luna had said it first?
This will make the situation very awkward...
"I asked several friends, and they're all very busy during the summer vacation. I guess you'll be busy too," Luna said casually. "But you can keep this ticket. You can use it to exchange for a Philippine fly pup from the expedition team later if we successfully track them down."
"Sounds good." Cohen raised his eyebrows. "By the way, did your father continue to have any dealings with the Silver Key people?"
"No, we all heard about the Silver Key later." Luna shook her head. "My father apologized to me and said he shouldn't have followed them to catch the Harassment Horsefly..."
"Mr. Norton."
Suddenly, a middle-aged man's voice sounded from the bottom of the stairwell.
"Professor von Braun, what's going on?"
Cohen saw the person downstairs, it was the new professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts - Philip von Braun.
